June 23, 2022 by www.fastcompany.com

It’s a new day for the way we work, and for most people that means the opportunity to work from home—at least a few days a week. This is a wonderful thing; after all, who doesn’t appreciate avoiding the commute, taking their dog for a walk over lunch or working in their yoga pants all day? Further, many disabled workers found themselves in a more comfortable position, with the option to cut out an uncomfortable commute and the option to create a welcoming home office. advertisement advertisement For those who have the option, getting out of the house can be a welcome change of pace—and can have a positive effect on everything from work-life fulfillment to motivation and career growth. The key is balance, and finding just the right mix of time in the office and time at home. Since many employers are offering the option for hybrid work, it’s wise to consider when you might want to work from home and when you want to make the trek to the office. The New Power Dynamic Shift From Employees To Employers

June 24, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin There is a power dynamic shift taking place between the employee and employer. For the last year and a half, workers were in high demand. Desperately needing staff as the economy reopened, companies catered to the workers. Businesses offered remote and hybrid work choices. Some provided flexibility , allowing people to decide where and when they’d like to work. Digital nomads were permitted to do their tasks anywhere in the world. If a person wanted to relocate from a high-cost city to another location, management allowed the worker to earn the same amount of compensation , despite the lower cost of living. Businesses offered resources and benefits to help with their staff’s mental health, emotional well-being and avoiding burnout. Seemingly overnight, the mood has dramatically changed. June 23, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

Hemant Kumar Bhadoriya (name changed) was travelling in a chauffeur-driven sports utility vehicle on a Saturday afternoon in Kota, seemingly headed to Jaipur, where people typically go on weekend getaways. Unlike the others, though, Bhadoriya was not out on a leisure drive. Neither was he actually going to Jaipur. He was, in fact, just sitting in the car and talking about money. Crores of rupees. Bhadoriya is not a lawyer or an investment banker. Neither does he deal in illegal activities. He is a maths teacher at Kota’s top coaching centre and was negotiating with a potential employer, one of the country’s biggest edtech companies. The edtech startup had offered him a 40 percent hike on his existing salary of Rs 1.65 crore. “At first, I was shocked and a bit sceptical when I heard about the offer as every day we have been reading about how hundreds of employees were getting laid off by startups,” said Bhadoriya, 46. “But then it was for their offline classes and I have been … [Read more...] about Poaching and coaching in Kota: Race for $500 million education hub heats up

Mindset Matters: Transforming The Philosophy Of The Disability Economy For Present And Future (Part IV)

June 24, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Looking at the Disability Economy in its current incarnation, we can see it as a natural extension of the social and political advocacy movements for Disability Civil Rights that were critical in pushing for greater inclusion and active participation. Yet, it is important to understand that the Disability Economy both in the abstract and practical forms is fluid, and we must be able to ascertain not only what this means, but how to think about envisioning a future reality where disability is central to improving the human experience. Presently, as we further examine this new economic reality, we are finding key themes that are making their way to the forefront of the conversation. Ideas from accessibility, diversity, and inclusion to ESG investing are the basis for the present thinking of how business is redefining a new paradigm of disability. The maxim “Nothing About Us Without Us” is evolving into something beyond its … [Read more...] about Mindset Matters: Transforming The Philosophy Of The Disability Economy For Present And Future (Part IV)

An Exploration Of Anti-Blackness Within The Fitness Industry

June 22, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Exercise plays a critical role in supporting health and wellbeing. Aside from the endorphin release that helps us manage our stress and emotions, physical activity can help support mental wellbeing. One form of exercise that has continued to rise in popularity in recent decades is Pilates. Pilates was developed in the 1920s and has seen consistent growth throughout the last few decades. When the pandemic hit, Pilates was one of the fitness trends that came back into prominence. Despite its popularity, Pilates is still an industry that lacks diversity. Fatphobia, racism, and accessibility challenges continue to steer people away—but that is slowly starting to change. Sonja R. The Next Transgender Generation Isn’t Waiting To Get To Work

January 31, 2020 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Intuit , the U.S. business software giant and financial management corporation, made history this week by hosting what was billed as a first for Silicon Valley: a “Trans Summit,” in which transgender, non-binary and gender non-conforming employees spoke with their coworkers — as well as their CEO — about their struggles and successes in the workplace. Emotions ran raw; everything from tears to cheers and sincere compassion were palpably present throughout the day-long event. But those assembled said the speakers who really made the biggest impression were five kids, ranging in age from 11 to 17. No, they were not there for “Bring Your Child To Work Day.” They are the next generation of engineers, doctors, actors, dreamers and achievers. And they are all transgender. “I've been waiting to say this all day,” beamed Lia of New Hampshire, a bodacious 14-year-old trans girl who dreams of Broadway. “Let's get … [Read more...] about The Next Transgender Generation Isn’t Waiting To Get To Work

Companies now need to take action to protect employee abortion rights. Here’s how

June 24, 2022 by www.fastcompany.com

In a devastating blow, the U.S. Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade, stripping Americans of their constitutional right to seek an abortion and effectively banning the procedure in 26 states. The economic impacts of this decision will no doubt be astounding. advertisement advertisement For many people, particularly workers in low-wage jobs and people of color, access to safe and reliable reproductive healthcare can mean the difference between economic insecurity and economic advancement . Women who don’t have access to abortion care are three times more likely to leave the workforce and nearly four times more likely to have a household income below the federal poverty line. Furthermore, Black and Latinx people will be disproportionately impacted by Roe being overturned, further compounding economic inequities. In states like Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas, which already limit abortion access, the majority of those receiving abortions … [Read more...] about Companies now need to take action to protect employee abortion rights.
