At least two people were shot when gunfire erupted inside a New Jersey mall Friday night, sending frightened shoppers running and stores into lockdown before police arrived, sources say. Police are still searching for the suspect, but say the shooting was targeted and the general public does not appear to be in danger. Two victims later walked into a nearby hospital with gunshot wounds. The victims were shot on the third-floor food court at Newport Mall in Jersey City Friday night, the source said, initially sending stores into lockdown before police arrived and evacuated the mall. A newspaper reporter at North Jersey Record described hearing gunfire inside the mall just after leaving the movie theater with his family. "I heard a thump," said Scott Fallon. MANILA—Authorities filed charges against the two suspects involved in the New Year's Eve blast in Cotabato City. The Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) "Southseas" filed two counts of murder and 34 counts of frustrated murder against Salipudin Lauban Pasandalan and an alias "Saed Nur Kasim," who remains at large. The charges were filed on Wednesday afternoon before Cotabato City Prosecutor Anwar Masacal. Police said on Tuesday that Pasandalan turned himself in, after watching news reports identifying him as a suspect, based on mall surveillance footage. After a post-Christmas melee left merchants in emergency lockdown and customers fleeing, some Walden Galleria tenants are threatening to walk. That’s the word from a leasing source and at least two retailers at a time when stores re-evaluate the year’s profits and decide whether to renew leases. The shopping center, which despite its moniker is located in southwest San Jose, is anchored by big-time names such as the AMC Saratoga 14 theaters, supermarket giant Lucky and sporting goods and outdoor gear giant REI.
