Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline A group of Wisconsin voters filed a lawsuit in state court Tuesday against the “fake” electors who submitted alternate election results to Congress claiming former President Donald Trump won in 2020, the first such lawsuit filed against any state’s “fake electors” as the voters try to stop the scheme from happening again in the future. Key Facts The plaintiffs, which include several legitimate electors who elected President Joe Biden in Wisconsin’s Electoral College vote, sued 10 GOP electors who cast alternate votes for Trump, as well as two attorneys who aided their efforts. May 18, 2022 by www.denverpost.com

By The Associated Press WASHINGTON — A senior defense official says U.S. Pentagon officials are having discussions with Sweden and Finland on their security needs to deter Russia as both move toward NATO membership. The official said Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin met with Swedish Defense Minister Peter Hultqvist on Wednesday and spoke about the interim period between when the NATO application is formally made and when it is approved. There have been concerns about threats from Russia during that period, in which Sweden and Finland would not formally be covered by NATO’s Article 5 which says that an attack against one member is an attack against all and calls for collective defense. The defense official spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss private Pentagon discussions. – AP writer Lolita Baldor in Washington contributed to this report. __ KEY DEVELOPMENTS IN THE RUSSIA-UKRAINE WAR: — Interrogation, uncertainty for surrendering Mariupol troops — NATO … [Read more...] about Live updates | Official: US in talks with Sweden, Finland

‘Not The Way To Achieve Relief’: Biden’s DHS Chief Attempts To Dissuade Migrants As The Border Gets Overwhelmed

May 17, 2022 by dailycaller.com

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas pleaded with migrants Tuesday to not trust smugglers who offer to bring them into the country, even as they cross illegally in droves. “Do not place your lives in the hands of individuals who only seek to exploit your lives for the sake of profit. We are building safe, orderly and humane pathways to access the benefits that the law provides and that Congress has passed,” Mayorkas said during a border trip to McAllen, Texas. “But, traveling from one country to another in the hands of smugglers only to be met by the enforcement authorities of the United States government is not the way to achieve relief. The laws of the border will be enforced.” (RELATED: Migrants Bused To DC Don’t Stay There. DHS shut the board down Monday and Nina Jankowicz, who was tapped to lead the department, drafted a resignation letter Tuesday, according to The Washington Post . Jankowicz was reportedly pulled into a meeting late Tuesday night, however, with officials giving her the chance to stay on as the department determines whether to move forward with the highly polarized board. Jankowicz formally resigned Wednesday, according to The Washington Post’s Taylor Lorenz. Yellen confirms Russia debt-payment licence extension unlikely

May 18, 2022 by www.theedgemarkets.com

Janet Yellen - A + A (May 18): Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen confirmed that it’s unlikely that the US will extend an exemption that enabled Russia to make bond payments on its foreign-currency debt, with investors now having had time to adjust to Moscow’s being cut off from the global financial system. “When we first imposed sanctions on Russia, we created an exemption that would allow a period of time that would allow for an orderly transition to take place and for investors to be able to sell securities,” Yellen said at a press conference on Wednesday. “The expectation was that it was time-limited. I think it’s reasonably likely that the licence will be allowed to expire.” No final decision has been made, but it’s unlikely the licence will be extended, Yellen said. Bloomberg News reported on Tuesday that the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control is expected to let the exemption lapse at its May 25 expiration, citing people familiar … [Read more...] about Yellen confirms Russia debt-payment licence extension unlikely
