General manager Rick Hahn likes the balance the Chicago White Sox have from an offensive standpoint. And he believes the Sox have improved defensively and that they’ll be a “headier” ballclub. He sees having second baseman Elvis Andrus in the clubhouse as beneficial. And while he knows all too well about the injury factor, Hahn likes the flexibility the roster provides, with depth options, if a setback occurs. “Overall, I like that this group believes what we are capable of accomplishing and wants to prove to the rest of the baseball world that we’re capable of being the team we should be,” Hahn said. Hahn discussed the upcoming season with the Tribune on Saturday at Camelback Ranch. The conversation took place as the Sox were still finalizing their roster . Hahn recalled a recent conversation in regards to the optimism every major-league club feels this time of year. “This year seems different to me,” he said. “This year seems different just from the level of … [Read more...] about ‘We know we have something to prove.’ Chicago White Sox GM Rick Hahn on how he sees the 2023 season after an offseason of change.

Wyndham Hotels Grabs A Windfall From America’s Infrastructure Agenda
With thousands of construction workers and contractors needing long-term housing, the world’s largest hotel franchisor is launching a new brand for the booming boots-and-hardhat market. G eoff Ballotti is staring at a map on his office wall and likes what he sees. Nearly two dozen dots sprinkled across the United States represent future semiconductor factories. Outside of the microchip sector, few executives would seek out such a stodgy map from the Semiconductor Industry Association, let alone hang it on a wall. But for the CEO of Wyndham Hotels & Resorts (2022 revenue: $1.56 billion), each dot on that map represents a giant, flashing-light opportunity. Ballotti quickly rattles off examples of locations where new chip factories are slated to appear. Intel is building two plants in Chandler, Arizona, at around $30 billion a pop. In Texas, plants have been announced by Texas Instruments in Sherman ($30 billion) and by Samsung in Taylor ($25 billion). In Indiana, they are … [Read more...] about Wyndham Hotels Grabs A Windfall From America’s Infrastructure Agenda
Polymath Of Rap, IDK, Applies Both Sides Of His Brain
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin IDK’s creative acumen, his savvy for business, and his thoughtful airs pierce. His inner seas are oceans of song, direction, and rhymes of personal revolution. IDK is a polymath. He performs as musician and manager alike, handling the economics of his artistry, negotiating his deals firsthand. It’s as unusual as it is laudable and difficult. He’s collaborated with The Neighborhood, Saba, KAYTRANADA, Domo Genesis, Young Thug, A$AP Ferg, Denzel Curry , and Bas. Dancing with his right brain, he turns silence into capturing sound. Balancing his left brain, he confers with the powers of bureaucracy, law, and record labels. “Most artists that I meet are focused on the right brain. They tend to struggle a lot. They feel restricted. And there's a tendency to rely on their team or their manager. It’s good to have people like that, but dependence could affect your livelihood because you can't control anyone else,” said IDK. … [Read more...] about Polymath Of Rap, IDK, Applies Both Sides Of His Brain
Ariel Frenkel Confronts Zach Shallcross About Fantasy Suite Betrayal On ‘Bachelor’ Finale
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin It turned out to be the most talked-about moment on Season 27 of “The Bachelor.” Zach Shallcross prepared to set out on a trio of Fantasy Suite dates with the final three woman in the competition and then fumbled the highly anticipated encounters by making a vow no one asked him to make—and immediately breaking it. As he explained to Ariel Frenkel on his first date, he had no intention of having sex on any of his dates. He told Gabi Elnicki the same thing on the second date, but he followed it up a little differently by having with her. Then, guilt-stricken, he recapped it all in a messy confession on date three with Kaity Biggar. After it was all over, Shallcross sent Frenkel home, the one woman who had no idea about his sexual change of heart. And that became the topic of an uncomfortable confrontation on the opening portion of the live “Bachelor” finale Monday night. ‘Succession’ Season 4, Episode 1 Review: Rummage Sale
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Succession is back for its fourth and final season and that makes me both tremendously happy and a little bit sad. Happy to get one more delicious season of family drama, backstabbing and plotting that makes House Of The Dragon almost look tame by comparison; sad that it’s almost over, of course. I could handle a couple more seasons of Succession. In any case, there’s blood in the water. Logan Roy is making his last gambit and the sharks are circling. Who will end up sitting on the Iron Waystar RoyCo Throne? Who will bend the knee? Let’s talk about it. The Revenge Of The Kids When we left off at the end of Season 3, Logan Roy (Brian Cox) had just made a surprise play. After meeting with GoJo creator Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgard) the Roy patriarch decided that now was the time to sell rather than acquire. Matsson would take over both companies—instead of one of Roy’s idiot children—and Logan would walk away … [Read more...] about ‘Succession’ Season 4, Episode 1 Review: Rummage Sale
Prevent Costly Procurement Disasters: 6 Science-Backed Techniques For Bias-Free Decision Making
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin A biased bid selection process represents one of the biggest threats for procurement officials. Such bias leads to a bad selection decision for a government contract, wasting taxpayer money. Moreover, it may lead to a procurement bid protest. The Government Accountability Office (GAO) put out a report in 2017, which found that a “flawed selection decision” was one of the top four reasons for successful bid protests - and over 22% of bid protests succeeded that year. So how should procurement officials protect their procurement selection process from bias? Doing so requires a basic grasp of behavioral science research on cognitive biases and how to defeat them . What Do Lawyers Working on Bid Protests Say About Bias? In 2021, the US Congress commissioned a bid protest study at the Defense Department referencing the work of Dr. Christopher Yukins , a professor of procurement law at the George Washington … [Read more...] about Prevent Costly Procurement Disasters: 6 Science-Backed Techniques For Bias-Free Decision Making

Prevent State Tax Issues Before You Move 529 Funds To An IRA
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The Secure Act 2.0 brought about several consumer-friendly policies that should help people save more over time, as well as more flexibility when it comes to how funds in a 529 college savings plan can be used. Specifically, families will soon be able to move up to $35,000 from a 529 college savings plan into a Roth IRA for the account beneficiary, although annual contribution limits apply. This becomes an option for savers in 2024. Because annual contribution limits come into play here, maximizing the cap on this benefit will take several years. In fact, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has set the annual contribution limit across all IRA accounts at $6,500 for 2023 (unless you're 50 or older, in which case you can contribute up to $7,500 per year). ADVERTISEMENT The 529 plan making the transfer must also be open for at least 15 years, so it's not possible to open an account, fund it quickly, then move money … [Read more...] about Prevent State Tax Issues Before You Move 529 Funds To An IRA
