Essential By Christophe Bellanca Proves The Enduring Refinement Of Modern French Cuisine In New York
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Back when I was compiling my annual “The Best New Restaurants of the Year” for Esquire , a few times over thirty-five years, as soon as I entered a place I sensed that it was going to be quite out of the ordinary and a prime contender for the list. Pulling open the iron doors of Christophe Bellanca’s new restaurant across from the Museum of Natural History, I had a very keen sense that would be the case, and throughout the next few hours there, I never wavered from that first impression. On looks alone, Parisian interior designer Caroline Egasse’s interiors show a sophisticated restraint as well-crafted as a Chanel jacket and skirt ensemble, even evoking the pale colors of taupe, black and white that epitomized a style that never goes out of fashion. Even though I bewail restaurants without tablecloths, the soft, padded treated leather used here is really quite beautiful and the lighting allows you to see everyone, easily … [Read more...] about Essential By Christophe Bellanca Proves The Enduring Refinement Of Modern French Cuisine In New York
What Item Would You Grab If Your House Was About To Be Destroyed?
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin In college in the 70s, I was in a small group psychology class discussion that asked, "If your house was on fire, what one item would you take with you?" The responses were interesting in my group. Most said they would get something meaningful like family pictures or a family heirloom, although one of the answers was from a guy who answered he’d take his pool table. He made that pool table, which was his only cherished possession. This proverbial question comes up in family discussions, coffee klatches, and psychologists and counselors who often use this question to understand a person's priorities. I just recently thought about this when I saw a modern-day survey asking a form of this question. The folks at Secure Data Recovery did a survey recently that asked, "Which of our possessions would we grab first if fire, flooding, or a tornado threatened to destroy our home?" The survey showed "When asked what … [Read more...] about What Item Would You Grab If Your House Was About To Be Destroyed?
SS Rajamouli’s fan moment with Steven Spielberg. What he said about ‘Naatu Naatu’
SS Rajamouli on meeting Steven Spielberg: “I just met god”. (Image credit: @ssrajamouli/Twitter) India's superstar director SS Rajamouli had a fan moment of his own when he met American filmmaker Steven Spielberg, days after RRR's historic Golden Globes victory. Naatu Naatu, a song from his epic saga, won the Best Song (Motion Picture) award on January 11, marking India's first-ever Golden Globe Award. Amid their busy tour of the US, Rajamouli and his team met Spielberg, the award-winning director of classics like Schindler's List , Jurassic Park , Jaws and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. Crazy Rich Asians And The World That’s Their Oyster
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin An over-the-top wedding scene in an over-the-top movie. Alamy Even many of the favorable reviewers of the hit movie Crazy Rich Asians concede it is familiar romantic-comedy fare from Hollywood, save for the faces. Yet therein lies the basis of a cultural moment, as Asian characters assume mainstream roles for a largely Western audience. Of direct interest to Forbes Asia readers is the backdrop of the story (earlier a book by Kevin Kwan): the tussle between traditional and modern mores in an extremely wealthy Singaporean Chinese family. Of course this film is an entertaining caricature, although I trust it inspires conjectured likenesses to real clans. Singapore itself appears in several glam cameos. The vast fictional fortune itself, however, popularizes what we have been reporting for years: the Asia-Pacific region's extraordinary personal riches. If this cinematic staple is nevertheless a breakthrough on the … [Read more...] about Crazy Rich Asians And The World That’s Their Oyster
The wild world of PromptBase, the eBay for generative AI prompts
The old saying is that the best person to be in a gold rush is the one selling the shovels. Well, what about the person who owns the shovel store? It’s not far off from what developer Ben Stokes is currently doing within the booming world of generative artificial intelligence right now. Stokes didn’t make another AI tool. Instead, he’s running a marketplace for the prompts that go into the AI. It’s called PromptBase , and according to Stokes, there’s been a lot of early interest. “There’s a pretty healthy marketplace going on,” he says. “There’s probably about double the amount of buyers compared to sellers right now on there.” To understand what Stokes’ website PromptBase is doing, you first need to understand how generative AI works. Whether an AI tool produces images (as with DALL-E 2) or text (ChatGPT), the programs require a prompt. These prompts are strings of text and could be as simple as “a skeleton on skateboard” or as complex as “happy small cute skeleton on a … [Read more...] about The wild world of PromptBase, the eBay for generative AI prompts
Beware of freeloaders, enable equitable give-n-take for your business to grow
Define roles and responsibilities to ensure a fair workplace. (Image: Unsplash) Freeloaders is a familiar word and most of us have encountered these folks at some point in our lives. These are people who don’t want to play their fair part or complete their fair share of work. They want to take as much as they can but without giving much. There is an eponymous comedy movie that follows the life of some freeloaders whose lifestyle is threatened when the circumstance changes and they are not able to mooch anymore. In college, many of us were stuck on group projects with a bunch of drifters or slackers and a minority hard at work. They were the ones doing the heavy lifting but the glory or success was shared by the whole team. Why discuss freeloaders? Having to make up for someone else’s “could-not-care-less” attitude or utter incompetence created a bad culture. This often carries over to the entire workplace and the disillusionment piles on. Small and medium enterprises should … [Read more...] about Beware of freeloaders, enable equitable give-n-take for your business to grow
New ‘Warzone 2’ Resurgence Map ‘Ashika Island’ Revealed: Release Date, Japanese Theme, Points Of Interest And More
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Activision has revealed the new small map headed to Warzone 2.0 in Season 2. Ashika Island is the first new Resurgence map since Fortune’s Keep released for the original Warzone. It will be the first time Resurgence mode is available in the new Call Of Duty battle royale. Resurgence mode differs from traditional battle royale in one important way: Players respawn after dying so long as one member of their squad remains alive (until Resurgence is turned off during the end-game). This leads to a very different, faster-paced playstyle that’s a lot of fun and a welcome break from longer battle royale matches, where you always run the risk of dying and then spectating for the next fifteen or twenty minutes. Ashika Island was developed by High Moon Studios, the developer behind Fortune’s Keep, which was an excellent Resurgence map in Warzone, and the second small map to come to that game after Rebirth Island, which … [Read more...] about New ‘Warzone 2’ Resurgence Map ‘Ashika Island’ Revealed: Release Date, Japanese Theme, Points Of Interest And More
