(Representative image) Goods and Services Tax (GST) return filings have risen from 60 percent almost two years back to over 85 percent now, said V Rama Mathew, Member- Tax policy at the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC). “Two years back, we would be happy if we got 60 percent filings, but now they have risen to over 85 percent GSTR (GST Return) filings,” Mathew said at a post-budget conference, analysing tax-related proposals, organised by the Associated Chambers of Commerce. Two days ago, the Ministry of Finance, in a statement, said GST collections in January surged to over Rs 1.55 lakh crore, the second highest ever. “Over the last year, various efforts have been made to increase the tax base and improve compliance. United Airlines To Workers: Expect Layoffs After Bailout Restrictions End

March 27, 2020 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin United Airlines CEO Oscar Munoz and President Scott Kirby thanked their 90,000 workers Friday afternoon for pressing lawmakers to pass a $2 trillion stimulus package with $58 billion in funding for beleaguered U.S. airlines , half of it grant aid to cover their payrolls and prevent layoffs through Sept. 30. That’s not long enough to get the industry out of the woods, the United executives warned. They expect the downturn in travel from the coronavirus pandemic to last well beyond that date, and require painful cuts. “If the recovery is as slow as we fear, it means our airline and our workforce will have to be smaller than it is today,” they said in a letter to staff that was publicly released. United has reduced its April schedule by more than 60%, Munoz and Kirby wrote, and even with that, load factors will likely fall into the teens or single digits. Deeper cuts are planned for May and June. “Based on how … [Read more...] about United Airlines To Workers: Expect Layoffs After Bailout Restrictions End

April 18, 2013 by thethaiger.com

PHUKET: To alleviate the ongoing traffic tailbacks at the construction site of Phuket’s first underpass (story here ), the project managers will open all three lanes of the underpass at the beginning of next year. “So far, the underpass is 11 per cent complete. At the beginning of next year, it will be opened for road users,” Department of Highways’ Bureau of Bridge Construction engineer Itthiwat Kritsanawanich announced at a meeting yesterday. “After we finish the underpass itself, we will begin the road works at the intersection,” Mr Itthiwat said. “First, we plan to close the two lanes northbound in front of Central Festival for renovation. At that time, we will open all three lanes of the underpass so northbound traffic can continue uninterrupted,” he told the Phuket Gazette. 2022 Year In Review: Crypto Policy Experiences Massive Turbulence In Congress Amid TerraUSD And FTX Failures

December 23, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin What Happened In 2022 Even before a months-long winter engulfed the digital-assets market, 2022 was shaping up as the year that Washington began to get serious about regulating the cryptocurrency business. That resolve was bolstered throughout the year by a series of calamities that included a massive stablecoin failure of terraUSD and the associated luna, with contagion effects that impacted BlockFi, Celsius Network and Voyager Digital exchange that called into question the ability of crypto exchanges to be digital asset custodians that would protect investors’ assets. Essentially, the crypto industry managed to recreate the same risks of the traditional banking system, in which the institutions that were responsible for holding customer’s assets were simultaneously lending funds, leading to leverage, liquidity and capital conflicts. Before the year could end, the third-largest exchange, FTX – previously seen as a … [Read more...] about 2022 Year In Review: Crypto Policy Experiences Massive Turbulence In Congress Amid TerraUSD And FTX Failures

What To Expect From The Serie A January Transfer Market Window As Teams Work With Limited Budgets

January 15, 2021 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The Serie A January transfer market window will suffer significantly from the financial wounds inflicted by the coronavirus pandemic. This winter, Serie A fans will not experience the same calciomercato liveliness that, in recent years, has brought high-profile names to Italian soccer, such as Cristiano Ronaldo , Zlatan Ibrahimović , Romelu Lukaku, and Christian Eriksen. That is the argument supported by Eleonora Trotta, who has been covering Serie A’s transfer market news for more than a decade as an editor for Italian online newspaper Calciomercato.it . Trotta explains that a lack of funds is forcing sporting directors across all Serie A clubs to take a very prudent approach to transfer negotiations. “The main trend is that the budget (for clubs) does not exist,” Trotta told me. “It’s basically zero.” A Risk-Averse Approach Because clubs cannot afford investing in risky transfer deals, … [Read more...] about What To Expect From The Serie A January Transfer Market Window As Teams Work With Limited Budgets

Strong winds leave Phuket King’s Cup triple-champ beached

December 2, 2011 by thethaiger.com

PHUKET: Strong onshore winds last night left a three-time class champion in the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta stranded on the sand at Kata Beach. Matt Allen’s 44-foot Ichi Ban , on which he won the IRC 1 class at the Phuket King’s Cup last year, was left standing vertically in the sand after the tide ran out this morning. “It looks like the boat has not suffered any damage. It is pointing out to sea and should be able to safely sail way at high tide at about 3pm this afternoon,” a regatta organizer at the scene told the Phuket Gazette . Ichi Ban was one of the many yachts stranded by strong onshore winds during regatta last year. All were recovered safely. The Job Market Is Defying Economic Gravity

February 3, 2023 by www.investopedia.com

The economy is slowing down and inflation is cooling, with no mass layoffs in sight—that’s not supposed to happen. Friday’s news that employers kicked hiring into high gear in January by adding 517,000 jobs came as a surprise for a number of reasons. Layoffs at Google ( GOOGL) and other tech companies have dominated headlines . Other parts of the economy have been slowing down , with a multitude of indicators flashing warning signs of a recession. The domino effect of a slow down usually causes a surge in the unemployment level, and economists had expected those headwinds to at least curb the pace of job gains. “It’s clearly the tale of two economies,” said Ryan Sweet, chief U.S. economist at Oxford Economics. “The labor market is extremely tight. It's very strong, but the rest of the economy is slowing down.” Those two things don’t usually go together, but the pandemic may have overturned the old rules. “Historical experience may prove to be misleading in 2023,” said … [Read more...] about The Job Market Is Defying Economic Gravity

Anything to declare? Airport officials asked to target bags of undisclosed cash

April 23, 2014 by thethaiger.com

PHUKET: Officers at Phuket International Airport have been asked to target people carrying large amounts of undisclosed cash in the ongoing battle to crack down on transnational crime. The request comes from Glenn Tankard of the Australian Federal Police (AFP). Mr Tankard was in Phuket early this month in his role as head of the Thai Transnational Crime Coordination Network (TCCN) central office in Bangkok. “Immigration at the airport should look out for suspicious people, such as those who do not declare that they are carrying US$10,000 or more,” said Mr Tankard. “Excess, undeclared money is a standard indicator that someone is involved in money laundering, which only arises from other crimes… This is something very small that immigration can pick up that could paint a bigger picture of a possible criminal network.” Related news Phuket police bust Nigerian overstayers 22 hours ago Reasons Why You Should Live in Kamala Phuket feat. Is Erling Haaland the new Beethoven, Shakespeare, or Rembrandt?

February 3, 2023 by thethaiger.com

The superlatives for Manchester City striker Erling Haaland are endless. He’s been called a “Phenomenon,” “Freak of nature,” Robot” and Beast,” to name just a few. But will he be talked about in the same breath as another legend of the game who was liked to Beethoven , Shakespeare , and Rembrandt ?” The prolific 22 year old hitman has been tipped to rip up the Premier League record books this season. Ahead of Sunday’s clash at Tottenham Hotspur, the Norway striker has 25 Premier League goals from only 19 games. The £51.2 million man (US$62 million) made history on October 2 last year when he became the first player in the Premier League to score hat-tricks in three consecutive home games in City’s 6-3 victory over Manchester United. He also set the record for the quickest player to score three hat-tricks in eight league games, breaking Michael Owen’s 1998 record of 48 league games and halving Alan Shearer’s 10-game record from the 1994-95 season.
