As travel opens, Phuket officials gather to fight drug problem

May 19, 2022 by thethaiger.com

Now that Thailand’s travel restrictions are easing, Phuket officials are on guard for an expected increase in demands for illegal drugs. This morning, a group of officials held a meeting at Phuket City Hall to discuss drug issues in the island province. The meeting was led by a director from the Region 8 Drug Enforcement Administration. Officials from other government agencies also attended. The officials noted that drug users and sellers consistently communicate with email, social media, and LINE, a chat app popular in Thailand. They also noted that parcels of narcotics sent to Phuket are usually hidden in coastal areas such as mangrove forests and fish cages. The officials said more intensive searches in these areas are needed. In addition, they said that more cooperation between the government and related networks is needed to monitor drug routes by land and water. The officials said airlines need tighter surveillance to prevent drug smuggling to Phuket. However, the group … [Read more...] about As travel opens, Phuket officials gather to fight drug problem

Black water still flowing into ocean at Phuket’s Kamala Beach

May 18, 2022 by thethaiger.com

A popular Facebook page has posted a video and photos this week of black, dirty water flowing into Phuket’s Kamala Beach on the island’s west coast. The page, titled Monsoon Garbage Thailand, claims that the dirty black water was released from nearby businesses without any treatment. The Phuket Express reports that local business owners and government representatives have not yet responded to Monsoon Garbage’s claim. The photos and video, however, have gotten some shares, along with angry reactions and comments. The dirty water has been flowing along that klong for decades. The development of hotels and clubs along the same foreshore over the past decade has just exacerbated the problem with residents constantly complaining about the smell and bad visuals of the filthy stream of water openly flowing onto the beach. Read this editorial on the matter from 2017 HERE . Monsoon Garbage tagged the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Varuvat Silpaarcha in the post, … [Read more...] about Black water still flowing into ocean at Phuket’s Kamala Beach

Mitchell Marsh proves yet again why he is one of the best in T20 cricket

May 11, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

It is difficult to keep Mitchell Marsh out of the game. Be it with the bat or with the ball. On Tuesday at the DY Patil Stadium, where playing strokes was tricky, the 30-year-old dealt in sixes to hasten the Delhi Capitals victory and keep alive their hopes of making the Play Offs. Marsh scored 89 in 62 balls with five fours and seven sixes, his powerful strokes off pacers and spinners taking his team over the line with 11 balls to spare. The Western Australia all-rounder had more sixes than fours, preferring to go aerial and clearing the boundary line with ease. After RR began brilliantly with Trent Boult dismissing opener KS Bharat off the second delivery edging to wicketkeeper and Prasidh Krishna bowling a maiden over to Marsh, the Australian duo of Warner and Marsh assessed the pitch conditions and paced their innings accordingly. Marsh unleashed his strokes, sending R Ashwin high over long-off for his first six, then pulling Krishna over backward square leg before … [Read more...] about Mitchell Marsh proves yet again why he is one of the best in T20 cricket

White House Apologizes To Democrats For Following The Law

May 18, 2022 by dailycaller.com

The White House attempted to assure Democratic lawmakers Tuesday that it recognized the negative impacts of its ongoing investigation into the solar industry, Axios reported. Top White House officials, including National Economic Council Director Brian Deese, made the assurances during a conference call with nine Democratic senators, according to Axios. Deese and the other officials reportedly told the Democrats that the probe’s impacts were a “core issue of energy and economic security, as well as a supply chain issue.” In March, the Department of Commerce opened the investigation into whether dominant Chinese solar panel makers had routed products through four southeast Asian nations — Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam — to circumvent Obama-era tariffs. Pro-tariff groups backed the investigation, which was requested by small California-based solar panel maker Auxin, arguing the alleged circumvention harmed American industry and jobs. “The White House should stand … [Read more...] about White House Apologizes To Democrats For Following The Law
