Green Bay Packers Vs. San Francisco 49ers: 5 Things To Watch

August 11, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The Green Bay Packers begin exhibition play Friday when they travel to San Francisco for a 7:30 p.m. game. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers and many of Green Bay’s starters won’t play. But there is plenty of intrigue. Here are five things to watch: 1. Summer of Love Packers third-year quarterback Jordan Love, who’s had a somewhat disappointing start to his career, has shown dramatic improvement this summer. But there’s a major difference between doing it on the practice field and when the lights go on. With Rodgers sitting, Love figures to play the overwhelming majority of the game. And the Packers would love nothing more than to see their 2020 first round draft choice continue to make gains. “I think he’s much more in rhythm,” Packers coach Matt LaFleur said of Love. “I think there’s much more decisiveness, I think you see it in his footwork. He’s not getting what I call ‘stuck’ at the top of the drop where both … [Read more...] about Green Bay Packers Vs. San Francisco 49ers: 5 Things To Watch

Peak inflation bet lifts stocks, US dollar in doldrums

August 11, 2022 by www.theedgemarkets.com

- A + A LONDON (Aug 11): Global shares edged higher on Thursday as investors bet on the pace of interest rate hikes slowing after data pointed to inflation peaking, leaving the US dollar struggling after its biggest fall in five months. Oil prices languished below US$100 a barrel in search of direction, while better-than-expected earnings from Zurich lifted the insurer's shares. Figures on Wednesday showed that US consumer prices were unchanged in July compared with June, a two-year rise in inflation stopped in its tracks by a drop in gasoline prices. Investors now turn to US producer prices data, along with the latest jobless claims numbers, ahead of Wall Street's open. Michael Hewson, chief markets analyst at CMC Markets, said peaking inflation could mean less aggressive interest rate hikes from the US Federal Reserve when it meets in September. The Bank of England and European Central Bank also meet next month. "Markets are getting ahead of themselves, and … [Read more...] about Peak inflation bet lifts stocks, US dollar in doldrums

Cisco hit by cyberattack from hacker linked to Lapsus$ group

August 11, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

Cisco Systems Inc. said it was the victim of a cyberattack in which a hacker repeatedly attempted to gain access to the Silicon Valley firm’s corporate network. Cisco said it became aware of a potential compromise on May 24, and disclosed it on Wednesday after the hacker leaked a list of the files it had stolen on the dark web. An investigation determined that the hacker broke into Cisco’s network by cracking into an employee’s personal Google account, which synchronized their saved passwords across the web, the San Jose, California-based company said in a blog post published on Wednesday. The attacker then pretended to be trusted organizations during phone calls with the employee and successfully persuaded the employee to accept a multifactor push authentication notification to their device. That allowed the hacker to gain access to Cisco’s network using the employee’s credentials. Cisco had “not identified any evidence suggesting that the attacker gained access to critical … [Read more...] about Cisco hit by cyberattack from hacker linked to Lapsus$ group

Fed leaders, unswayed by softer CPI, see rate hikes into 2023

August 11, 2022 by www.theedgemarkets.com

- A + A (Aug 11): Federal Reserve officials responded to softening inflation data by saying it doesn’t change the US central bank’s path toward even higher interest rates this year and next. Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari, who prior to the pandemic was the central bank’s most dovish policy maker, said Wednesday that he wants the Fed’s benchmark interest rate at 3.9% by the end of this year and at 4.4% by the end of 2023. “I haven’t seen anything that changes that,” Kashkari said, responding to a question about a Labor Department report published earlier that showed consumer prices rose 8.5% from a year ago in July. The print was slightly less than the 9.1% increase in the prior month that marked the highest inflation rate in four decades. His Chicago counterpart, Charles Evans, welcomed the news at a separate event Wednesday, but added that inflation remains “unacceptably high.” He said he expects “that we will be increasing rates the rest of this year and … [Read more...] about Fed leaders, unswayed by softer CPI, see rate hikes into 2023

August 10, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Google cofounder Sergey Brin, the ninth-richest person in the world, just gave $127 million worth of Google stock on Monday to two charitable groups. According to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing , Brin gave away 1.07 million shares of Google parent company Alphabet, a tiny fraction of his 739 million shares in the company. While the filing itself doesn’t detail where those shares went, a source familiar with the matter tells Forbes they were donated to the charitable Sergey Brin Family Foundation and the Michael J. Fox Foundation. Brin’s gift isn’t unusual. He typically donates Alphabet shares to his foundation at least once or twice per year.
