· October 3, 2012 ·

A week later I was with a friend in Boulder and surfing came up again. I live in one of the world’s best surf spots and my answer was always “No, I don’t surf.” Frustrated at my own answer, I got in the water the next weekend, got up on my second wave (with a push), and have been surfing every possible day since. … [Read more...] about Learning To Brave The Big Waves Of Innovation

Burnout put me in the hospital. This is what I learned about healthy work-life balance

· January 12, 2021 ·

It’s easy to lose yourself in your work in a culture that values success, achievement, and productivity. 6 CEOs on the most unexpected lessons they learned in 2020

· January 12, 2021 ·

2. Jeff Maggioncalda, CEO of Coursera “I’ve learned how productive remote working can be, and how it has fundamentally changed how Coursera works. We’ll never go back. Before the pandemic, I thought in-person collaboration was crucial for innovation and agility. Remote work is a great equalizer, minimizing the impact of how you look, what you wear, and where you sit. While there is still a critical value for in-person communication, tools like Zoom and Google Docs enable us to meet face-to-face and work collaboratively on shared documents, and many employees enjoy the increased flexibility that comes with virtual work. Remote work is here to stay, and I look forward to building a more robust virtual workforce at Coursera beyond the pandemic.” … [Read more...] about 6 CEOs on the most unexpected lessons they learned in 2020

After a string of life setbacks, here’s how I learned to rethink happiness

· January 18, 2021 ·

As a leader, I spent this year listening and learning, reconciling and redefining the meaning of management in an awakened world where equity is no longer a cause but an imperative. This required shifting from being client-centric to being employee-first. Today, more than ever, leadership is an art in relationships. It requires honesty, empathy, integrity, and grace—traits not easy to cultivate (or typically celebrated) in the demanding, deadline-driven world of business. … [Read more...] about After a string of life setbacks, here’s how I learned to rethink happiness
