Know that value can help as you make future decisions about your primary investment, whether it's selling, refinancing your mortgage, or borrowing money to remodel. Key Takeaways Numerous factors go toward determining a house's value, including location and current market conditions. Generally, you'll want to spend at least a few years in a home before selling so you can maximize your investment. While plenty of tools to estimate your house's worth are online, a home's actual value can be determined by a real estate agent, a county or municipal auditor, or a licensed appraiser. How Much Is My House Worth? If you were to list your home for sale, you would need to know what price to put on the property. To accomplish that, you or a team of trained professionals must wrestle … [Read more...] about How Much Is My Home Worth?
Affecting one in 3,000 to 5,000 males worldwide, Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) causes progressively worsening muscle weakness that eventually requires a wheelchair for most patients by age 11. Even worse, heart and lung complications often lead to mortality before age 30. Fortunately, Sarepta Therapeutics ( NASDAQ:SRPT ) has three approved RNAi therapies that can treat approximately 30% of the DMD population, and it's working on potentially curative gene therapies. Sales growth? Check. In the second quarter , the rare disease biotech raised full-year revenue guidance to between $565 million and $575 million, up from a prior range of $537 million to $547 million. Even more impressive than those 25% year-over-year revenue gains is its growth streak. After Sarepta's preliminary announcement of third-quarter results last week, the upcoming earnings report will mark an enviable 20th consecutive quarter of revenue growth. Image source: Getty Images. Markus Heger opens his laptop and looks up into the sky at a flock of wild geese flying overhead. Heger is a project manager at an IT company in Wallenhorst in Germany, and this is his workplace. He is sitting comfortably in front of a camper van parked on a campsite in the district of Osnabrueck. His boss provided the campervan, in a bid to make the company more appealing to potential applicants by enabling them to work remotely from the countryside, amid a desperate struggle for skilled labour. The company was established 30 years ago. Current boss Dieter Klages says it has never been as hard to find junior staff as it is now. “We get nothing, zero. And then you start thinking about leaving the industry or doing something else,” Klages says. He is also keen to retain his older and more experienced staff. ‘It’s nice to be surrounded by nature, and the working atmosphere is different too,’ says Markus Heger. One day, taking a stroll along the North Sea, an idea came to … [Read more...] about Could a ‘camping office’ be part of your next job offer?
This article first appeared in The Edge Malaysia Weekly, on January 10, 2022 - January 16, 2022. Ultra-fast grocery delivery firms such as Gorillas have sprung up in recent years - A + A FOR years, we have heard about a looming retail apocalypse as more people shun malls and retail stores for the convenience of online shopping. Urban planners wondered what would happen to our city centres as retail areas with less traffic became ghost stores and ghost malls. Two years after the Covid-19 pandemic began, North Americans and Europeans are seeing the first signs of what cities of the future will look like. If you have walked around New York City, Chicago or San Francisco over the past year or so, you would probably have seen the carnage — abandoned stores and restaurants all boarded up or store fronts papered over. More recently though, there have been some signs of green shoots in North American city centres. Whole rows of old stores are being converted into … [Read more...] about Tech: Ultra-fast grocery delivery is changing city centres
- A + A WASHINGTON (Jan 19): New US home construction unexpectedly strengthened in December to the fastest pace in nine months, led by apartment projects and suggesting builders found some success navigating shortages of materials and labour. Residential starts rose 1.4% to a 1.7 million annualised rate from a 1.68 million pace in November, according to government data released on Wednesday. For all of 2021, 1.6 million homes were started, a 15.6% surge from the prior year and the most since 2006. Applications to build, a proxy for future construction, jumped 9.1% to an annualised 1.87 million units in December, the highest since January of last year. Permits in 2021 surged 17.2% from the previous year. Home prices have surged over the last year as potential buyers compete for a very limited number of homes. Builders are racing to replenish inventory, but supply chain challenges, high commodities prices, and a lack of skilled workers have elongated … [Read more...] about US housing starts rise unexpectedly on multifamily building
A staff member cleans the pool at a Bangkok hotel. The hotel industry is facing a slowdown because of the temporary suspension of the Test & Go scheme. AFP Hoteliers are urging the government to extend the 90% reduction of the land and buildings tax for another two years or collect a new levy of 20-30% instead as the tourism industry is far from recovering. "The new tax rates, which affect hotel owners the most, have to be put off until tourism sees an improvement because the number of tourists hasn't significantly increased due to the flip-flop on reopening," said Marisa Sukosol Nunbhakdi, president of the Thai Hotels Association (THA). To cushion the impact of the pandemic in June 2020 the cabinet offered a cut of 90% on the land and buildings tax. Mrs Marisa said hotel operators have lost 80-90% of revenue from 2019 levels, especially hotels at major tourism destinations, because of a supply-demand imbalance. Moreover, the industry now faces a slowdown because of the … [Read more...] about Hoteliers want 90% tax cut extended
