New York (CNN Business) New York Mayor Eric Adams is begging the city's business leaders, including JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon , to ride the subway to work. Adams is pushing to bring people back to New York offices after years of working from home. "We're going to get him on a train," Adams told the Financial Times in an interview . "We're going to get everyone on the train. He understands the need of getting his people back and leading from the front." JPMorgan ( JPM ) didn't immediately respond to CNN Business' request for comment. Adams is trying to corral workers back to offices just as the city elevated its Covid-19 status to "High" on Tuesday. That means the city is experiencing "high community spread" resulting in "substantial pressure" on the city's health care system, according to the health department. "We're telling our corporate leaders: 'Hey, get on the train!'" Adams said in the interview. "We need to advertise that New … [Read more...] about New York Mayor Eric Adams wants Jamie Dimon to ride the subway to work
Judge finds Donald Trump in contempt in legal fight with New York Attorney General
Donald Trump (Image Courtesy: Reuters) A New York judge found former United States President Donald Trump in contempt of court Monday for failing to adequately respond to a subpoena issued by the state's attorney general as part of a civil investigation into his business dealings. Judge Arthur Engoron ordered Trump to pay a fine of $10,000 per day. Mr. Trump, I know you take your business seriously, and I take mine seriously, Engoron said before issuing the ruling from the bench in a Manhattan courtroom, following a hearing. New York Attorney General Letitia James, a Democrat, had asked the court to hold Trump in contempt after he missed a March 31 court-imposed deadline to turn over documents. Trump, a Republican, has been fighting James in court over her investigation, which he has called a politically motivated witch hunt. A Big Bold British Steakhouse Named Hawksmoor Makes An Impressive Debut In New York
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin I’ve long since given up wondering if New York could possibly absorb another steakhouse, because the question is moot in the face of so many opening on what seems a monthly basis. Most follow the sacrosanct traditions of the New York steakhouse set decades ago, with menus deliberately very similar for the simple reason that those dishes are what guests expect and crave. And they are now the model for steakhouses all over the world. Hawksmoor is something of an exception, first for being an import from the UK, where the first one was opened in 2006 in London’s East End by founders Will Beckett and Huw Gott. Second, there are several items on the menu you won’t find elsewhere in town. Third, the place eschews the usual design elements of so many steakhouses by virtue of it being set within the cavernous space of what was once the United Charities Building, gifted in 1893 by wealthy Scotsman John S. Kennedy. With its … [Read more...] about A Big Bold British Steakhouse Named Hawksmoor Makes An Impressive Debut In New York

The New York City Recovery Index: March 28
Editor's note: Below you'll find the week 82 release of the NYC Recovery Index, originally published March 29, 2022. Visit the NYC Recovery index homepage for the latest data. The New York City Recovery Index’s methodology has changed: All component index scores will be capped at 100 (fully-recovered) as of March 19, 2022, to reflect a more accurate overall recovery score, and prevent measures that have surpassed pre-pandemic levels from overshadowing deficits of others that have not recovered. With this change, the highest possible overall NY recovery index score will be 100, and will only be attained when all six component measure index scores reach or surpass pre-pandemic trends. New York City’s economic recovery index experienced a minor gain in the week ending March 19, 2022, increasing from 75.5 to 76.6 and rounded up to 77. Gains were driven primarily by a strong increase in restaurant reservations, as well as a slight increase in subway ridership. On the other hand, the … [Read more...] about The New York City Recovery Index: March 28
