Moneycontrol Pro Panorama | Are US and Indian markets decoupling?

August 8, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

Dear Reader , The Panorama newsletter is sent to Moneycontrol Pro subscribers on market days. It offers easy access to stories published on Moneycontrol Pro and gives a little extra by setting out a context or an event or trend that investors should keep track of. In a case of how cheer for the economy may not be so for markets, investors in US stocks fretted over excellent jobs data. US businesses added 5,28,000 jobs in July, beating most estimates by an embarrassing margin. US 2-year treasuries rose after the report, as the market priced in a more certain likelihood of another 75-basis point rate hike by the US Fed. But the S&P 500 slipped, as investors pondered over what too strong an economy could mean for interest rates. Those fears did not carry over to India, however, with the stock market rising by a strong 0.8 percent at 1.15pm. The RBI’s 50 basis point hike in the repo rate last week and its determination to stay in ‘withdrawal of accommodation’ mode is … [Read more...] about Moneycontrol Pro Panorama | Are US and Indian markets decoupling?

The Benefits of Licensing for Startups.

July 29, 2022 by www.inc.com

Startup founders need every tool at their disposal to successfully launch and grow their businesses. One of those tools is a clear understanding of how the licensing business model can be employed to support their goals , including speed to market and filing intellectual property that is attractive to investors. The concept of licensing has been around for a very long time. The inventor of the first patented technology -- Samuel Hopkins, in 1790, for a new method of manufacturing potash and pearl ash -- licensed it to a local businessman the next year, says historian Arthur Daemmrich at the Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation. Basically, one party (the inventor or artist) grants another party (typically a company) the right to produce and sell something they created. As far as I can tell, most startup founders aren't very familiar with the concept of licensing a product onto the market. Venturing -- the traditional method of bringing a … [Read more...] about The Benefits of Licensing for Startups.

So, You’ve Been Knocked Off. Congratulations!

April 30, 2019 by www.inc.com

In her article "The Real Danger of Going on 'Shark Tank': Copycats" for the Wall Street Journal last weekend, writer Ruth Simon documents the consequences of going public with your product idea. If it's promising, it will be imitated quickly... and even if it isn't, others may accuse you of being a thief. As an example, Simon relays the ordeal of Lori Cheek, an entrepreneur who appeared on the show in 2014. Her dating business still doesn't have any revenue. "But it has accumulated more than $60,000 in legal bills, after a viewer of the show accused Ms. Cheek of stealing his idea." Ouch. Here's the reality: If you have a great new product, it will get copied. Even if you have a patent, trademark, and/or copyright protection. In my opinion, it's literally impossible to protect anything these days. Reverse engineering is as doable as ever. If counterfeiters don't steal from you outright, a close alternative may pop up on the market. And make no mistake. It's not just … [Read more...] about So, You’ve Been Knocked Off. Congratulations!

Hydrogen A Winner As Manchin Forces A Diverse Energy Transition Policy Approach

August 8, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin As this energy transition continues to move forward in a somewhat halting fashion, prodded along by energy and climate policy decisions, it is becoming increasingly apparent that displacing a substantial percentage of current fossil fuel usage on a global scale will require a far more diverse set of solutions than just more subsidies for wind and solar. Not that such subsidies are being abandoned, of course: Quite the opposite, in fact. Robert Bryce reported Sunday at Forbes that the Manchin/Schumer cornucopia of climate spending (cynically titled the “Inflation Reduction Act”) passed on a strictly partisan vote by the Senate would direct another $113 billion to just those two rent-seeking industries over the coming decade. Fortunately, the bill also recognizes that subsidies for those two industries alone won’t do the trick. Manchin’s own statement on the huge tax and spending package recognizes that reality, stating … [Read more...] about Hydrogen A Winner As Manchin Forces A Diverse Energy Transition Policy Approach

Visiting The World’s Tallest Tree Could Now Land You In Jail

August 9, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin We humans have a long held fascination for the most extreme things – the biggest, the fastest, the oldest, the rarest and of course, from mountain to building to tree, the tallest. Which is why Hyperion is such a special draw, tempting those who like to experience such extremes to beat a path to its 380 feet (115 meters) of towering trunk, branch and leaf. But Hyperion’s scale and notoriety have brought problems to its surroundings, deep in the forests of Northern California. A coastal redwood located in a remote part of Redwoods National and State Park far from the well-worn trails, Hyperion was first first found by two amateur naturalists in 2006, park manager for natural resources Leonel Arguello told the Associated Press . But by 2010, its location had been shared online creating an influx of enthusiasts trampling their way through areas not intended for park visitors. In 2019, Guinness World Records certified it … [Read more...] about Visiting The World’s Tallest Tree Could Now Land You In Jail

In crowded city races, Denver’s new fair election fund will face first test

August 9, 2022 by www.denverpost.com

Overhauling Denver’s campaign finance rules was popular with voters in 2018. More than 70% of Denverites who cast ballots that year voted for Referred Measure 2E. The sweeping change to the city’s campaign rules ratcheted down contribution limits for candidates seeking every seat from mayor to the city auditor, banned direct corporate and union campaign contributions and established a fair elections fund to provide public financing for candidates who agreed to abide by even lower contribution limits and other rules. Participate in the fair elections fund and receive a 9-to-1 public funding match on contributions from Denver residents between $5 and $50. In other words, a $50 donation becomes $500 with taxpayer money so long as the donor hails from the city and county. A lot has happened since then. First, the measure’s backers struck a deal with the City Council to delay the law’s effective date until after the 2019 municipal election instead of trying to enact the changes … [Read more...] about In crowded city races, Denver’s new fair election fund will face first test

EXCLUSIVE: Meet The Woman Trying To Unseat One Of Texas’ Democratic Reps

August 8, 2022 by dailycaller.com

Cassy Garcia hopes to unseat Democratic Texas Rep. Henry Cuellar with a conservative agenda focused on border security, the economy and energy independence, she told the Daily Caller News Foundation in an exclusive interview. “I’m so proud of everything I’ve done and I want to work so hard for everybody in District 28. I believe in the American dream, I’m living the American dream and I want everybody to continue living the American dream,” Garcia told the DCNF. Garcia argues that she can be part of the “red wave” of Latina Republicans, like Rep. Mayra Flores, who recently won a competitive race in south Texas. Republican candidate Cassy Garcia believes she has what it takes to beat Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar as part of an expected “red wave” in south Texas, she told the Daily Caller News Foundation in an exclusive interview. Cuellar, who’s represented the district since 2004, is one of the only Democrats to support efforts to secure the border and to have taken a … [Read more...] about EXCLUSIVE: Meet The Woman Trying To Unseat One Of Texas’ Democratic Reps

ANALYSIS: A Dem Dark Horse Has The Power To Trample The GOP In 2024

July 8, 2022 by dailycaller.com

The Democratic Party won’t allow President Joe Biden to have the final word on whether he’ll be the party’s candidate in 2024. The door is conveniently open for other candidates to make their case on why Biden should step aside, and Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom seems to be doing just that. Newsom is a true Progressive Democrat who handily defeated a recent recall election and looks poised to win reelection for a second term in November. The California Democrat signaled his quest to become the Democratic Party’s 2024 Presidential nominee over the July 4th weekend when he paid Fox News $105,000 to air ads during their Independence Day programing to urge Floridians to move to California, according to CNN. “It’s Independence Day. So let’s talk about what’s going on in America. Freedom is under attack in your state. Your Republican leaders, they’re banning books, making it harder to vote, restricting speech in classrooms, even criminalizing women and doctors,” Newsom … [Read more...] about ANALYSIS: A Dem Dark Horse Has The Power To Trample The GOP In 2024

(AP Photo/Pablo Martinez Monsivais) Seated for photos with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe last Tuesday, Donald Trump couldn’t help but take in his overly extravagant, gilded living room. “Many of the world’s great leaders request to come to Mar-a-Lago,” Trump boasted from an ornate white couch during what was billed as the opening remarks for a bilateral meeting with Abe on trade and North Korea. “They like it; I like it.” The Palm Beach club has become the president’s favorite weekend getaway. It’s also one of the best investments he’s ever made. Trump purchased Mar-a-Lago in 1985 for about $10 million — $5 million for the massive home, a reported $3 million for its lavish furnishings, plus another $2 million for 400 feet of prime … [Read more...] about Donald Trump Has Gained More Than $100 Million On Mar-a-Lago
