Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Today Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger held court at the 2022 Berkshire Hathaway BRK.B BRK.A shareholder meeting. I’ve attended the event twice in Omaha. This year I watched on my iPad from a Starbucks SBUX in Ocean City, Maryland. Watching it live in Omaha is better. Yet as always, Buffett and Munger imparted their wisdom as only they can. Here are seven things I learned. 1. Berkshire Earnings Declined 53%, But Not Really The headline number for Q1 2022 was a decline of earnings from $11.71 billion last year to $5.46 billion this year. Dig a bit deeper into the numbers, however, and you realize why Warren Buffett has criticized an accounting rule that requires Berkshire to report unrealized investment gains and losses on its statement of operations. Berkshire’s operating earnings increased year over year. In Q1 2021 the company’s operations earned $7.018 billion (after tax). In the first three … [Read more...] about 8 Things I Learned From The 2022 Berkshire Hathaway Meeting

Teachers celebrate their day together after two years apart
GEORGE TOWN: After two years of not being able to celebrate Teachers Day properly, a group of teachers and former teachers of SK Convent Green Lane held a get-together at a colleague’s house in Bayan Lepas. Deepa Chandramohan, 43, who was at the gathering, said some 10 teachers and former teachers of the school attended the special occasion. “It is something that we have not been able to do for the past two years. We feel so happy and excited to finally be able to celebrate our day. “At first, a few teachers from the school and I decided to celebrate Hari Raya at our colleague’s house, which coincided with Teachers Day. “We did not plan anything and only wanted to have a get-together with our colleagues,” Deepa said. Are You Doing Enough for Your Newbies?
Seems that there's always time to do things over--because we often have no choice. Too many managers keep forgetting that it's a whole lot smarter and much cheaper in the long run to take a little more time at the outset to get things right the first time. As the tailors all say: measure twice, cut once. In the case of your new hires-- the inbound talent that will ultimately make or break your business-- if you get the messaging and the training wrong at the beginning, these are generally unrecoverable errors. Things will only get worse over time. And keep in mind that "newbies" come in all sizes and ages. Gray hair is a sign of age, not necessarily wisdom, experience, or knowledge that is specific and relevant to your business. If you mess things up at the start, you'll soon enough get to that awful and uncomfortable conversation where someone will ask you about one of the new hires and you'll say "I don't know" or "the jury's still out." It isn't. When you say, "I don't … [Read more...] about Are You Doing Enough for Your Newbies?

We can confirm that Dana Holgorsen was interested in the Texas Tech opening but Kirby Hocutt declines to interview him morning. @RedRaiderNation @KAMCNews — That David Collier (@CollieronTV) November 29, 2018 Thought I had tweeted this earlier — and I included it in this story. So you want to move to Vietnam?
“Whilst Thailand is often nicknamed the ‘land of a thousand 7-elevens’, with a convenience store on just about every corner, there are very few of these in Vietnam, for now.” With the Thai Baht on a high at the moment, along with stricter enforcement of visa rules, some expats say they’ve had enough and are heading to Vietnam, or some other south east Asian country, where they might improve their personal situation. For example, an expat pensioner, on a fixed income, from a country where the Thai baht has risen against your currency, Thailand has become a more expensive option – perhaps impossible to make ends meet anymore with your old pension. The British pound, as just one currency, has gone from around 55 baht to the pound four years ago, to now around 39 baht, a big loss in value. Meanwhile the cost of living in Thailand has risen over the last decade. But Vietnam has its own challenges and, whilst being an amazing place to explore as a tourist, may not be to everyone’s … [Read more...] about So you want to move to Vietnam?

Quick commerce market faces some fast facts
Image Source: ShutterStock “The work is tough, especially during the day due to the current heatwave. Moreover, customers often call and demand we pick up other things on the way. It takes time to complete a delivery and receive good ratings. It is not a job of 10-15 minutes. The quality of service degrades if one is in a hurry,” said a Mumbai-based delivery executive. He usually delivers 10-20 orders a day. Another executive, based in Gurgaon, outside Delhi, said, “Delivering was my choice, as I had to run a household also. But a 10-minute delivery adds to my stress. I only rush when I want to pick more orders, otherwise I avoid doing so.” Both executives asked that they not be identified. Lakhs of such executives are working around the clock to deliver orders in the promised 10-20 minutes. It has been some time coming but over the last month or so, the quick commerce space has seen a swirl of activity.
