Rep. Malliotakis, CNN Anchor Spar Over Removing Ilhan Omar From Key Committee

February 3, 2023 by dailycaller.com

Republican New York Rep. Nicole Malliotakis sparred with CNN anchor Poppy Harlow on Friday over removing Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar from the House Foreign Affairs Committee. The House of Representatives voted to remove Omar from the committee Thursday at the behest of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who also removed Democratic California Reps. Eric Swalwell and Adam Schiff from the House Intelligence Committee. Omar faced scrutiny in 2019 for suggesting that American Jews advocate for “allegiance to a foreign country” and that Israel purchased American support. Malliotakis, who also served on the Foreign Affair committee, said Omar held “very dangerous views” surrounding Israel, for blaming the U.S. for the catastrophe in Venezuela and for allegedly having “diminished” 9/11 and thus should not serve on that committee. “Congresswoman, to the first point you made in your objections of her, she did respond saying that ‘I was in no way equating terrorist organizations … [Read more...] about Rep. I will now provide more detailed information on key resources, stakeholders and technical information about the service. Unlike other instant payment methods, such as PayPal, FedNow is being developed and operated by the Federal Reserve rather than a private company. How Much Patience Does Luka Dončić Have Left For The Mavericks?

February 3, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The Dallas Mavericks have yet to sign forward/center Christian Wood to a contract extension, which is a bit eyebrow raising considering his play over the course of the season, as well as his contractual status. Wood will be an unrestricted free agent by the conclusion of the season, allowing him to sign anywhere without any level of compensation coming back to Dallas. This would be an eerily similar situation as the one Dallas found themselves in last offseason where Jalen Brunson left the team to sign with the New York Knicks. The Brunson situation was entirely avoidable, had Dallas signed him to a three-year contract in 2018 as opposed to four years. By signing him four, per CBA regulations, Brunson qualified for unrestricted free agency status given that he was a second-round selection. Had his contract expired after three seasons, he would have been a restricted free agent, and thus Dallas would have had more control … [Read more...] about How Much Patience Does Luka Dončić Have Left For The Mavericks?

New Dashboard Shows Key Health Measures In Each Of 435 Congressional Districts

February 3, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Wondering whether your Congressperson is actually doing a good job? Is there some type of metric besides number of times the Congressperson tweeted expressions of outrage and used ALL CAPS? Well, it could help to see what’s really happening with the health of people in your Congressional District. After all, improving the lives of people in the district is kind of what a House of Representatives person is supposed to do, right? Say, for example, more people in your District are binge drinking than any other District. You may, in turn, be inclined to tell your Congressperson, “Maybe it’s time to bottle up the rhetoric and figure out what’s going on here” That’s why the new Congressional District Health Dashboard (CDHD) , just launched by a team from the New York University (NYU) Grossman School of Medicine in partnership with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, can be a useful tool to help separate out the Congresspersons … [Read more...] about New Dashboard Shows Key Health Measures In Each Of 435 Congressional Districts

House Votes To Remove Ilhan Omar From House Foreign Affairs Committee

February 2, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline The House voted Thursday to eject Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) from the Foreign Affairs Committee over controversial tweets about Israel, fulfilling House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.)’s promise to oust her and two other Democrats from their committees after the previously Democratic-controlled House removed two Republicans from committees in 2021. Key Facts The House voted 218-211 on party lines on a resolution to eject Omar, with one member, Rep. David Joyce (R-Ohio), voting present. The resolution cited Omar’s 2019 tweet suggesting the U.S.’s relationship with Israel is “all about the Benjamins,” a comment many lawmakers from both parties criticized as an antisemitic trope, but Democrats view the move as revenge for the Democratic-controlled House’s decision in 2021 to remove Republican Reps. Paul Gosar (Ariz.) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (Ga.) from their committees over a string of incendiary … [Read more...] about House Votes To Remove Ilhan Omar From House Foreign Affairs Committee

Crypto miner Core Scientific files for bankruptcy as industry contagion bites

December 21, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

Representative image Core Scientific Inc, one of the biggest publicly traded cryptocurrency mining companies in the United States, said on Wednesday it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, the latest in a string of failures to hit the sector. Trillions in value has been wiped out from the crypto sector this year on rising interest rates and exacerbating worries of an economic downturn. The slump has eliminated key industry players such as Three Arrows Capital and Celsius Network. The bigger blow came after major crypto exchange FTX filed for bankruptcy protection last month. Its swift fall has also sparked tough regulatory scrutiny of how crypto firms hold funds and conduct business operations. After rapid growth in 2020 and 2021, bitcoin – the most popular digital currency by far – is down more than 60% this year. Austin, Texas-based Core Scientific said it would not liquidate and would continue to operate normally, as it expects to enter into a restructuring … [Read more...] about Crypto miner Core Scientific files for bankruptcy as industry contagion bites

Workers At Cleveland REI Store File For Union Election With The NLRB

February 3, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin On January 11, a delegation of workers from the REI store in Cleveland, Ohio, formally filed for the right to hold a union election with the National Labor Relations Board, seeking representation with the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU). This came on the heels of two REI stores winning their union elections at the flagship in New York’s SoHo, and in Berkeley, California stores. These wins came despite REI efforts to union bust coast-to-coast, the RWDSU said. The worker-led movement to unionize at the store in Beachwood, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland, has been underway for more than a year, according to the RWDSU, but workers cited the overwhelming response at REI’s SoHo flagship as the motivation they needed to move forward. The store workers in Cleveland made a push to get a majority of card signers and file for election. On January 11, REI workers at the Ohio store formally filed for a union … [Read more...] about Workers At Cleveland REI Store File For Union Election With The NLRB
