French President Macron to visit Emirates to mourn death of pro-West ruler

PARIS (Reuters) - French President Emmanuel Macron has announced a trip to the United Arab Emirates to mourn the death of Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and display his support for the ruling family, with whom France holds lucrative business and military ties. Macron will travel to the UAE on Sunday, his administration said in a statement, to pay tribute to Khalifa, who died on Friday, and "express his support to his brother Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed and the rest of the family, and the entire Emirian people", Khalifa, UAE president since 2004, was a pro-Western moderniser who had aligned the Gulf Arab state more closely with the West, but had rarely been seen in public since suffering a stroke in 2014. He was buried and funeral prayers were held on Friday. According to the COVIDNOW website, a total of 1,665,098 children, or 46.9% of the population, had received at least one dose of the vaccine. COVID-19 SUNDAY: 53 deaths, 7,960 infections, provincial data

Today, the CCSA reported 7,960 new Covid-19 infections, down 507 since yesterday , and 53 Coronavirus-related deaths, down 16 from yesterday. Since April 1, in the latest wave of the virus in Thailand, a total of 1,939,126 confirmed Covid-19 infections have been reported. In the 24 hour period since the last count, the CCSA has reported 6,950 recoveries, up 1,338 from yesterday. There are now 98,367 people currently receiving treatment for Covid-19, up 957 from yesterday, including 2,048 in the ICU and 449 on ventilators. Of the new Covid-19 infections, 427 were found in correctional facilities, 215 were identified by community testing, and 7,307 were uncovered by walk-in testing. 1,605 antigen test kits were used, though their results are officially considered inconclusive. Thailand confirms 89 new Covid-19 cases, 411 total

Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health and its Department of Disease Control has confirmed 89 new cases of the Covid19 coronavirus this morning. The total of cases in Thailand now stands at 411 since the virus first struck Thailand in January. 51 cases of the new cases are linked to previous clusters… Lumphini Boxing Gym cluster – 32 Bangkok night club cluster – 2 Religious ceremonies in Malaysia and the South of Thailand – 6 Close contacts and relatives of previous confirmed cases – 11 Of the other 38 new cases, 12 are people recently back from abroad who were detected at airport screenings. 6 worked directly with foreigners. The contacts of the remaining 20 are still being traced. To date, 44 patients have recovered and 366 are still in hospital. One fatality has been recorded, a man who also had dengue fever. Representative image (Source: Reuters) A new SARS CoV 2 mutant, BA. 2.12.1, related to the Omicron subvariant BA.2 but with other distinct changes, may be driving the current surge in COVID-19 cases in Delhi and surrounding districts, top sources in INSACOG, India’s coronavirus genomic surveillance project, told Moneycontrol. When contacted for an official version, Dr Sujeet Kumar Singh, director, National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), the agency under Union health ministry which is leading the INSACOG project, confirmed the detection of the variant in Delhi but did not elaborate more on this. Sources, however, said that the BA.2.12.1 variant has been detected in several samples from the national capital that underwent whole genome sequencing over the last few days. Active COVID-19 cases in country dip to 17,692

(Representative image) With 2,487 new coronavirus infections being reported in a day, India's tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 4,31,21,599 while the active cases dipped to 17,692, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Sunday. The death toll climbed to 5,24,214 with 13 fresh fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated. The active cases comprise 0.04 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.74 per cent, the ministry said. A decrease of 404 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. The daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.61 per cent and the weekly positivity rate at 0.62 per cent, according to the ministry. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,25,79,693, while the case fatality rate was 1.22 per cent. India reports 2,568 fresh COVID-19 cases; total active cases decline to 19,137

Representative image (Source: Reuters) India logged 2,568 new coronavirus infections in a day taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 4,30,84,913, while active cases dipped to 19,137, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday. The death toll climbed to 5,23,889 with 20 fresh fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated. The active cases comprise 0.04 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded as 98.74 per cent, the ministry said. A decrease of 363 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. The daily positivity rate was recorded as 0.61 per cent and the weekly positivity rate as 0.71 per cent, according to the ministry. Covid-19: 10 crore doses of SII’s Covovax approved for exports by govt lab, stock rolled out for teens

Representative image The country’s apex laboratory has cleared more than 10 crore doses of Covovax, another Covid-19 vaccine by the Serum Institute of India, for exports even as India gears up to roll out the shots to inoculate teenagers, News18.com has learnt. According to government data, the Central Drugs Laboratory (CDL) in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh has so far approved a little over 10 crore doses of Covovax for the purpose of exports as the vaccine was facing delay in approvals in India. Delhi records 1,656 COVID-19 cases, highest in 3 months; positivity rate 5.39%

Representative image Delhi recorded 1,656 COVID-19 cases and zero fatality due to the infection on Friday, the highest since February 4, while the positivity rate stood at 5.39 percent, according to data shared by the city health department. A total of 30,709 tests for the detection of coronavirus were conducted in the city a day before, it stated. The number of fresh coronavirus cases was the highest recorded in a single day since February 4 when the city had recorded 2,272 new infections at a positivity rate of 3.85 percent, and 20 related deaths. With the new cases, the national capital's overall COVID-19 infection tally rose to 18,91,425, while the death toll stood at 26,177, the data showed. The national capital had recorded 1,365 COVID-19 cases and zero fatality due to the infection on Thursday, while the positivity rate had stood at 6.35 percent. India reports 3,805 fresh COVID-19 cases, 22 fatalities in last 24 hours

A patient suffering from COVID-19 (Image: Reuters) India reported 3,805 new coronavirus infections in a day, pushing the number of active cases of the disease in the country to 20,303 and the overall tally to 4,30,98,743, according to Union Health Ministry data updated on Saturday. The data released at 8 am also showed that 22 fatalities — 20 of them from Kerala alone — were reported in a 24-hour period, taking the cumulative death toll to 5,24,024. The active cases now constitute 0.05 per cent of the total infections, the health ministry said, adding that the country's COVID-19 recovery rate is at 98.74 per cent. The daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.78 per cent and the weekly positivity rate at 0.79 per cent, the ministry said.
