Super Bowl’s “Taste Of the NFL” – The Best Food Event You Never Heard Of
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The Cake Boss made sure this Super Bowl dessert would be sweet for fans of both teams. In my last post , I wrote about how impressed I was with Indianapolis as a tourist city and as a host for what had to be the smoothest, best run Super Bowl imaginable. In a week filled with parties, big name concerts and all sorts of VIP events, the Taste of the NFL and its Party With A Purpose took the cake - except in this case the cake was a huge depiction of a football field complete with edible Eli Manning and Tom Brady jerseys and even the Vince Lombardi Trophy. The thing that makes this event so notable is that it is not new and not specific to any host city - it has been held for 21 straight years of Super Bowls, and will be held again next year (2013) in New Orleans, and after that in New York, and then Phoenix. My suggestion? Buy a ticket. The cool thing is you don’t have to be going to the game, which for most … [Read more...] about Super Bowl’s “Taste Of the NFL” – The Best Food Event You Never Heard Of

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline A former Twitter employee was convicted in federal court Tuesday for giving the government of Saudi Arabia information about regime critics’ social media accounts, according to multiple news outlets , as the kingdom faces criticism for its efforts to crack down on dissent—a gambit that has sometimes extended beyond the Arabian Peninsula. Key Facts Jurors in San Francisco found 44-year-old Ahmad Abouammo guilty of acting as an agent of a foreign government, falsifying records, two money laundering counts and two wire fraud counts on Tuesday, but acquitted him on five additional wire fraud counts, according to a verdict form obtained by Courthouse News. In hatred and in haste
A few weeks ago, I was a keynote speaker for a national conference for educators. I talked about teaching critical thinking, which includes encouraging kids to read beyond headlines—and to read carefully before commenting on anything, whether online or offline. A question came up during the open forum: What do we tell people who say that they don’t have time to read? My reply became relevant in the weeks that followed. A few days after the conference, ex-Lamitan mayor Rose Furigay was assassinated on our campus. Within minutes of the event, and despite no official statements or reports, comments sprouted online. A media person claimed that it was the Pinks and Yellows shooting each other down; another wished that Leni Robredo would be next. People laughed at the Ateneo, saying that it got what it deserved for being antigovernment. The insults kept flying, even when the news later showed that the gunman was loyal to the current administration, hateful toward Robredo, and … [Read more...] about In hatred and in haste

This news outlet is exposing Big Tech’s practices by building its own tech tools
In 2020, 56% of Americans agreed that journalists were purposely trying to mislead people, illustrating an unprecedented dip in confidence in the press. With that backdrop, and in an election year with peak political polarization, rolling out a brand-new media publication was “absurd,” admits Nabiha Syed, president of The Markup , a digital outlet focused on holding tech companies accountable. “How are we going to get people to trust us when they’ve never heard of us, especially when we are interrogating tools that people are using and are sometimes beloved?” advertisement advertisement But the founders felt that the site’s mission was critical: to investigate the power and practices of Big Tech. Plus, it was going to do things differently. The Markup is nonprofit newsroom, funded by philanthropists, including more than $20 million from Craigslist founder Craig Newmark. It is data-driven, and only publishes about twice a week, in order to be as … [Read more...] about This news outlet is exposing Big Tech’s practices by building its own tech tools

What Inventors Need to Know About Trade Shows
If you're serious about bringing your ideas for products to market, you should absolutely attend trade shows. They're always eye-opening. The only way to truly understand the mechanics of any industry is by attending its trade shows. One guarantee? You'll be overwhelmed. I've attended all kinds of shows over the course of my career as a product developer , including toys, back-to-school, pet, housewares, hardware, electronic, promotional, music, and more. Checking out the latest innovations and making new friends at a trade show never fails to inspire me. Film ‘DOSED 2’ Explores Legal Psychedelic Therapy, Highlights The Changing Landscape Of Mental Health Care
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin In 2020, the Canadian government made a landmark judgement that permitted four terminally ill Canadians the legal right to use magic mushrooms for end-of-life distress . The compassionate decree was the first of its kind in Canada since 1974 when magic mushrooms (containing the psychoactive substance psilocybin and known to ease end-of-life fears) were made illegal through the Canadian Drugs and Substances Act. One of those initial four people allowed to experiment with the newly legal mental health treatment using psilocybin was Laurie Brooks, who is also the central character of the documentary DOSED 2: The Trip of a Lifetime . The film follows Brooks, who in 2018 was diagnosed with late-stage terminal cancer and given 6 to 12 months to live, as she makes her way through a journey of acceptance of her own mortality, aided considerably by her psilocybin experiences. Growing up in a devoutly religious family — and … [Read more...] about Film ‘DOSED 2’ Explores Legal Psychedelic Therapy, Highlights The Changing Landscape Of Mental Health Care
