Fox News Channel’s John Roberts: ‘We Are Very Tired’ Of Covering School Shootings Week After Week

March 27, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Fox News Channel anchor John Roberts paused during his coverage of the shooting at a private school in Nashville that left three children and three adults dead to reflect on the staggering pace of school shootings in America. “All right, so we are going to break away,” Roberts said after a woman—who said she was a survivor the 2022 4th of July parade shooting in Highland Park, Illinois—approached the Fox News camera and asked “how is this still happening? How are children still dying?” Roberts followed the woman by saying “the woman said it quite succinctly, ‘aren’t you tired of this?’ Yes, we are tired of this. We are very tired of having to report on school shootings week in and week out,” Roberts said. Roberts noted that just last week, Fox News correspondent Alicia Acuna had been live on the air from outside the Denver high school where two people were shot—the second school shooting at the school in a matter … [Read more...] about Fox News Channel’s John Roberts: ‘We Are Very Tired’ Of Covering School Shootings Week After Week

Take It From Notre Dame Top Leaders: They Can Save NCAA From NFL, NBA, NILs And Just About Everything Else

March 27, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Everything was true regarding what the two most powerful men associated with University of Notre Dame athletics wrote this week in an op-ed piece for the New York Times NYT about the state of college athletics. To paraphrase: Despite such things as CBS and Turner paying around $1 billion per year through 2032 for the men’s basketball tournament, doom and gloom are on the way for the NCAA, suggested Notre Dame president John I. Jenkins and Jack Swarbrick, the athletics director of the Fighting Irish. Among the evils cited by Jenkins and Swarbrick is the way college athletes are getting paid through name, image and likeness (NIL) deals. Well, some are, but the overwhelming majority of them aren’t. While quarterback Bryce Young finished his Alabama career in January earning an estimated $3.5 million in NIL deals, NIL platform INFLCR puts the median transaction at $53 . Which means if you think it … [Read more...] about Take It From Notre Dame Top Leaders: They Can Save NCAA From NFL, NBA, NILs And Just About Everything Else

Every U.S. Crypto Exchange (And Binance) Is Being Investigated By The SEC, Says Senator Lummis Staffer

August 4, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Widely circulated reports that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is investigating $20 billion crypto exchange Coinbase are just the tip of the iceberg, according to a staffer from U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis’ (R-Wy) office. The staffer says every U.S. crypto exchange—and the largest crypto exchange in the world, Binance—are in various stages of being investigated. There are more than 40 U.S. cryptocurrency exchanges, according to crypto data site, CoinGecko. The SEC has not responded to multiple requests for comment. Coming in the wake of a number of SEC actions asserting the regulator’s domain over the crypto industry, and an equally strong response by the U.S Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) pushing back against what it characterizes as “regulation through enforcement,” the staffer says the SEC urgently wants to resolve its dispute with the CFTC over crypto jurisdiction. If the matter isn’t … [Read more...] about Every U.S. Crypto Exchange (And Binance) Is Being Investigated By The SEC, Says Senator Lummis Staffer

Back in Houston at Mission Control, chief flight director Gene Kranz (played by Ed Harris) comments on the unfortunate events, saying: "Is there anything they can do about it?" No one dared to speak. "Then they don't need to know." If Kranz was in IT security, he'd probably have a thing or two to say about actionable information and how there's sometimes too little and many times far too much. In this article, I'll share how automation can help turn the right information into action, helping to defend against cyberattacks, mitigate risk, shore up compliance and improve productivity. Prevent Costly Procurement Disasters: 6 Science-Backed Techniques For Bias-Free Decision Making

March 27, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin A biased bid selection process represents one of the biggest threats for procurement officials. Such bias leads to a bad selection decision for a government contract, wasting taxpayer money. Moreover, it may lead to a procurement bid protest. The Government Accountability Office (GAO) put out a report in 2017, which found that a “flawed selection decision” was one of the top four reasons for successful bid protests - and over 22% of bid protests succeeded that year. So how should procurement officials protect their procurement selection process from bias? Doing so requires a basic grasp of behavioral science research on cognitive biases and how to defeat them . What Do Lawyers Working on Bid Protests Say About Bias? In 2021, the US Congress commissioned a bid protest study at the Defense Department referencing the work of Dr. Christopher Yukins , a professor of procurement law at the George Washington … [Read more...] about Prevent Costly Procurement Disasters: 6 Science-Backed Techniques For Bias-Free Decision Making

A Quantum Leap In Timing

March 27, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Paul is President of Quantum Computing at ColdQuanta , where he leads the team building the world’s most useful quantum computer. So much of modern life relies on GPS that it has been estimated that an outage would cost the U.S. economy over $1 billion per day. Such an outage isn’t too far-fetched. We have seen recent examples of GPS being blocked in conflict zones, spoofed for nefarious purposes and disrupted by solar storms. At its heart, GPS is a timing system. To understand how timing relates to navigation, and how quantum technology will enable us to overcome the limitations of GPS, we need to go back in history a few hundred years. Dava Sobel’s book Longitude recounts the tale of John Harrison’s mechanical clock that revolutionized maritime navigation and global trade. In the same way that Harrison’s clock accelerated economic growth through the 18th and 19th centuries, optical clocks are … [Read more...] about A Quantum Leap In Timing

A Psychologist Recommends 3 Ways To Reverse Your Pattern Of ‘Detached Dating’

March 27, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Many people come to therapy after running into problems with the one they thought was ‘the one.’ They often say things like: “I’m not sure if this relationship is even worth my effort as she does not seem to have all the qualities that I am looking for in a partner.” “I fear that if I am my genuine self, he might think I am weak for being emotional and choose to walk out.” “I feel like there’s a wall between us. Why do we shudder at the thought of talking about the things we need to talk about?” Much of this uncertainty stems from a ‘detachment’ in one’s attitude towards dating. Part of this has to do with a more distanced approach to dating (i.e., texting instead of talking) that is common today. Another part has to do with the seemingly endless opportunities to strike up a connection with a new romantic interest (via dating websites). Whether we choose to pin it on the culture of social media, the … [Read more...] about A Psychologist Recommends 3 Ways To Reverse Your Pattern Of ‘Detached Dating’

3 children, 3 adults fatally shot at Nashville grade school

March 27, 2023 by www.denverpost.com

By JONATHAN MATTISE and TRAVIS LOLLER (Associated Press) NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A female shooter wielding two “assault-style” rifles and a pistol killed three students and three adults at a private Christian school in Nashville on Monday in what marks the latest in a series of mass shootings in a country growing increasingly unnerved by bloodshed in schools. The suspect also died after being shot by police following the violence at The Covenant School, a Presbyterian school for about 200 students from preschool through sixth grade. Police said the shooter was a 28-year-old woman from Nashville, after initially saying she appeared to be in her teens. Authorities were working to identify her and whether she had a connection to the school. The killings come as communities around the nation are reeling from a spate of school violence, including the massacre at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, last year; a first grader who shot his teacher in Virginia; and a shooting last … [Read more...] about 3 children, 3 adults fatally shot at Nashville grade school
