Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin With all the uncertainty in the world, why not plan for success? Financial planning is not a “one-size-fits-all” approach. True financial planning should consider every aspect of your past, present, and future. If done properly, it will help guide you down the best path to achieve the goals that you envision. A comprehensive financial plan can be the rock to anchor your goals in rough waters. The rough waters of market volatility have happened before, are happening now and will happen again. Considering this, financial plans allow people to see the impact of market volatility on their long-term goals, re-evaluate their asset allocation and liquidity needs, then form a plan of action on how to proceed in order to better the outcome of success for their goals. “Most people don’t plan to fail they fail to plan” – John J. London (CNN Business) A growing number of investors have come to the conclusion that a recession in the United States is probably looming, fueling a sharp sell-off in stocks and bonds as Wall Street braces for impact. What's happening: A shallow recession late this year or early next year is "becoming the consensus view," David Bianco, DWS chief investment officer for the Americas, told reporters this week. While there's agreement that the Federal Reserve needs to continue to aggressively pull back support for the economy to tamp down decades-high inflation, traders have been increasingly concerned that the central bank could accidentally go too far, triggering a new wave of job losses and throwing growth into reverse. But Fed officials … [Read more...] about Who’s right about a recession — markets or the Fed?
Opinion: Why so many workers are still quitting their jobs
Dana Peterson is an executive vice president and chief economist at The Conference Board. The opinions expressed in this commentary are her own. Aside from, "You're on mute," "I quit" has likely become one of the most popular sayings in the US over the last two years. But while more people are returning to in-person meetings, quitting does not appear to be letting up. Indeed, an astounding 4.4 million people quit their jobs in April, and there are 11.4 million jobs waiting to be filled, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) . So why are so many workers quitting? Here are four factors driving the so-called "Great Resignation" — and what businesses have been doing to stem the tide. Money Higher wages are among the many reasons that workers quit their jobs today. Just prior to the pandemic, the BLS' labor share of income — the percentage of economic output that goes to workers in the form of compensation — was just … [Read more...] about Opinion: Why so many workers are still quitting their jobs
Cheech Marin’s new museum plants a flag in the ground for Chicano art
There’s a hole cut into the middle of the Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture in Riverside, California. Built inside a former library, the new museum made the unconventional decision to reduce its gallery space when it sliced out a huge piece of its second floor. But according to architect Kulapat Yantrasast of WHY , the atrium that decision created is more important to the museum’s mission than the few extra galleries it could have housed. advertisement advertisement Rather than just a building to house art, the Cheech is intended to be a new civic center for the community. Using the Latin American urban concept of the z ócalo , or public square, the architects cut the atrium to form a central gathering space within the building. “For museums to be relevant, they have to be places for people,” Yantrasast says. “Creating the atrium was our biggest intervention.” Page & Turnbull , transforms a library built in 1964 into a … [Read more...] about Cheech Marin’s new museum plants a flag in the ground for Chicano art

‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ with swimming and diving comes at the right time
Nintendo has impeccable timing. Just when Animal Crossing: New Horizons was on the verge of going stale with the lack of new content, the developer recently announced a July 3 update that adds major new features. The most obvious one is swimming and diving. It’s an option that appeared previously in Animal Crossing: New Leaf and will make its debut on the Nintendo Switch title. Players will need to grab a wet suit so they can swim and dive around their islands. Players can’t go far but they can hug the coast and find new sea creatures to add to their museum and perhaps terrify Blathers. Along with swimming, Pascal, a red sea otter, will make an appearance in New Horizons . He loves scallops and if players find one, they can trade it to him for mermaid-themed crafting recipes. Lastly, Gulliver has a wardrobe change. He's dressed more like a pirate and helping him will get players a special reward. Although his tasks to find his communicator pieces are redundant at times, … [Read more...] about ‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ with swimming and diving comes at the right time
Director Park Chan-wook tones it down for his latest film, ‘Decision to Leave’
Park Chan-wook [CJ ENM] For the first time in many years, the newest film directed by Park Chan-wook, “Decision to Leave,” for which he received Best Director at this year’s Cannes, isn’t rated R. Compared to his prior films such as “The Handmaiden” (2016), “Thirst” (2009), “Sympathy for Lady Vengeance” (2005), “Oldboy” (2003) and “Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance” (2002), the degree of sexually explicit and violent scenes has been toned down. The film rides a fine line between investigative drama and romance as a police detective named Hae-jun, portrayed by Park Hae-il, begins to fall for a suspect — a Chinese widow named Seo-rae, portrayed by Tang Wei. Seo-rae is on the police radar for presumably having killed her husband, who was found dead at the base of a mountain. At a press event on June 2, Park, fresh back from Cannes, said that the two genres cannot be separated: “A detective meets a suspect, gains information about her, questions her, follows her and goes on a stakeout to … [Read more...] about Director Park Chan-wook tones it down for his latest film, ‘Decision to Leave’
An Investor’s Mind: 6 Ways It Can Block The Path To Long Term Wealth
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin With the U.S stock market experiencing its first significant correction in a couple of years, it seems like a good time to discuss some of the psychological biases that can negatively influence investor behavior: 1. Confirmation We all tend to actively seek out information that supports opinions we have already formed and to digest facts which suit our own world view. Investors commonly ignore or avoid reading critical opinions and reports about investments in which they already have large positions and seek confirmation from analysts and the media that the original decisions they made to buy and keep are still good ones. Just as great leaders will listen intently to those with whom they disagree, great investors should listen to the growling bears going in the opposite direction from the thundering herd of bulls. 2. Anchoring The price an investor initially pays for a stock can act as an unfortunate psychological … [Read more...] about An Investor’s Mind: 6 Ways It Can Block The Path To Long Term Wealth
Crashing Stock Markets Can Provide Opportunity For Longer Term Gains. But Do You Have The Stomach For It?
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Sir John Templeton was a twentieth century American-born British investor, banker and fund manager. He entered the mutual fund market and created the Templeton Growth Fund, which averaged growth over 15% per year for 38 years. He once said, “To buy when others are despondently selling and to sell when others are avidly buying requires the greatest fortitude.” Warren Buffett also once said that it is wise for investors to be “fearful when others are greedy, and greedy when others are fearful.” Easier said than done, I hear you say. How do you keep your head around you when everyone is losing theirs? Thinking contrarian has always been a great strategy and one which I have employed extensively over the years. Naturally, to be honest. Thinking differently to the crowd requires patience, discipline, and very little emotion. These are traits that sometimes have to be wired (or indeed forced) into your brain. Especially when you … [Read more...] about Crashing Stock Markets Can Provide Opportunity For Longer Term Gains. But Do You Have The Stomach For It?
