Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin One in four high school seniors ruled out prospective colleges because of the politics, policies or legal situations in the states where the colleges were located. That’s one of the main findings from a a new survey released by the Art & Science Group, a higher-education consulting firm. The survey, conducted in February, was based on responses from 1,865 high school seniors, 778 of whom said they were planning to attend college. The sample was 62% female, 62% white, and came from families with an average annual income of $93,000. The pattern of ruling out colleges based on the predominant political and social policies of the states where they were located was true for students of all political leanings. Among those identifying as liberal, 31% rejected institutions for such reasons, compared to 28% of those leaning conservative, and 22% of those saying they were political moderates. Not surprisingly, among students … [Read more...] about One In Four High School Seniors Rule Out Colleges Based On State Politics And Policies

Forget Job Titles: 7 Reasons To Take A Skills-Based Approach To Hiring Talent
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin By Meredith Bryan Scan any resume, and take note of what pops: job titles, company names, college degrees. But in today’s competitive labor market, businesses need workers with the right skills to do the job, not workers who’ve negotiated prestige titles that can mean different things at different organizations. Out-of-date job titles and requirements only serve to limit applicant pools in a moment when hiring managers are striving to attract and retain diverse, high-quality talent. Instead, recent research shows that a candidate’s skills are 5x more predictive of their job performance than hiring for education. “The future of work is all based on skills,” says Joseph Hanna, chief product officer at Magnit, a leading integrated workforce management platform. Innovative companies like Magnit are leveraging data and new technologies to facilitate this broader shift toward skills-based hiring, which will … [Read more...] about Forget Job Titles: 7 Reasons To Take A Skills-Based Approach To Hiring Talent

‘The Glory’ Is Netflix’s New Sleeper Korean Megahit You Need To Watch
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin While it’s not getting nearly the same headlines as Squid Game, Netflix absolutely has a new Korean superhit on its hands with The Glory, a revenge thriller that recently wrapped up its 16 episode first season run after airing in two parts. I’ve been watching it over the last few days, and while I’ve just finally seen it drop out of the Netflix top 10 list in the US entirely (Wednesday is back in it?), looking at the numbers, it has performed extraordinarily well globally. The last numbers Netflix published just over a week ago show The Glory with 123.5 million hours viewed that week. And it was 124.4 million hours the week before that. It’s dwarfing English shows over the same period like You season 4 (64 million hours) and Shadow and Bone season 2 (50.4 million hours). The Korean revenge drama follows a young woman, Dong-Eun, who was bullied and badly scarred in high school by a group of friends. That friend … [Read more...] about ‘The Glory’ Is Netflix’s New Sleeper Korean Megahit You Need To Watch
Bitcoin ‘Maximalist’ Saylor Makes Crypto His Only Job
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Michael Saylor’s new job looks a lot like his old job: adding bitcoin to the balance sheet of his business-software company with religious fervor. “I'm a bitcoin maximalist, I happen to believe that bitcoin is an instrument of economic empowerment, it'll be beneficial to eight billion people,” Saylor told Forbes in an interview. “I also happen to believe that bitcoin is unique,” he continues, because of “the Immaculate Conception, decentralization, and its commodity status. All of these things make it the superior asset in the space.” The Immaculate Conception he means is the founding of bitcoin, as explained in a 2008 white paper by one or more people using the name Satoshi Nakamoto. Saylor stated that bitcoin is the only crypto asset which is truly decentralized and without an issuer. He backs bitcoin as a corporate investment in part because he believes there is regulatory agreement among U.S. regulators that bitcoin … [Read more...] about Bitcoin ‘Maximalist’ Saylor Makes Crypto His Only Job

Getting Your Child Certified In Scuba Diving While On Vacation
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin If you’re wondering about getting your child certified in scuba diving, you might consider doing it while on vacation. There are several reasons why. 1. Part of the certification process involves online coursework (aka homework), and it’s easier to get buy-in from a kid when the payoff is scuba diving in the Caribbean with a chance of seeing turtles, rays and a plethora of other fish. 2. The water is warmer in the Caribbean than other options in the U.S. (including the quarry in Pennsylvania, where many New Yorkers go for their open water dives). 3. Doing their open-water dives in a place brimming with marine life will get your child interested in making scuba diving a life-long activity. 4. It’s one-stop-shopping, which is easier for everyone. Once you decide that you’re going to get your child certified on vacation, the next question is where you should do it. NRRP: The Italian National Recovery And Resilience Plan
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin In the pompous language that so distinguishes all acts of public administration in Italy, this is the name given to the special Plan that, thanks to a generous injection of European funds, should heal the wounds caused by Covid and, above all, allow Italy to relaunch and definitively modernize. The Plan is an ambitious one, the resources are huge (235 billion combining European funds and Italian contributions), the opportunity is unique. Its declared aim, to be achieved through a series of interventions including public works, regulatory adjustments, and so on, amounts to three “transversal priorities”: equality of gender, of territory and of generation. In other words, aside from the pomposity of the language, the intent is principally to reduce the economic and social gap between the North and South of the country in order to favor the entry of women and younger people in the job market. The voluminous NRRP document also … [Read more...] about NRRP: The Italian National Recovery And Resilience Plan
