Worried About Layoffs? 5 Tips For Job Seekers (And Job Seekers-To-Be) In A Slowing Economy

July 22, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin More workers are finding themselves out of a job (or becoming worried they might soon be) as a string of high-profile companies , mostly startups and in tech, have moved to freeze hiring or even to slash workers and rescind job offers. New unemployment claims edged up to an eight-month high last week . Initial unemployment claims increased by 7,000 to 251,000 in the week ending July 16, making the four-week moving average rise by 4,500 to 240,500, according to the Department of Labor. Those numbers are still a marked improvement from last July, when the four-week average of unemployment claims hit more than 405,000. And the actual unemployment rate in June (the last month reported) is still a rock bottom 3.6% . Still, fears of an impending recession have made nearly 80% of Americans worried about their job security, with almost a quarter of workers extremely concerned about their job security, a recent survey … [Read more...] about Worried About Layoffs? 5 Tips For Job Seekers (And Job Seekers-To-Be) In A Slowing Economy

August 3, 2022 by thethaiger.com

The Employers’ Confederation of Thai Trade and Industry released a new report analysing job applications on JobThai.com this past month revealing some interesting statistics about what jobs people want and where. Young job applicants – and there are around 490,000 to 510,000 of them who recently graduated and now entering the workforce – are eschewing the glitz and glamour of tourism work and opting for the stability of administrative and office jobs instead. The analysis looked at applications from 2 million job hunters on the popular employment website and found that 29.7% of people applied for administrative work, compared to just 3.63% who were interested in tourism jobs. Factory work was second most popular and jobs like accounting, technicians, logistics and engineering ranked highly as well. Most sought-after jobs 29.70% administrative work 16.00% factory work 10.10% accounting 10.10% technicians 9.85% shipping, import and export 9.59% engineering … [Read more...] about Half a million young people seeking jobs prefer admin to tourism

Doubly so in a volatile job market. Some experts predict that, by 2025, people in their 30s will comprise the majority of the world’s workforce. Most of those people are still navigating the early stages of their careers. They’re facing the challenge of establishing their own personal “brands” and standing out in a crowded pool of applicants. Unfortunately, many of the applicants in that pool are ill-prepared for launching—not to mention advancing—their careers. Mark Zides can help. As founder and chief executive of CoreAxis Consulting , an award-winning talent management firm, he teaches young adults the skills they need to climb the ladder of career success. Clean Energy Jobs Are Booming, Making Up For Rising Fossil Fuel Unemployment

June 29, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Memo to job-seekers: The United States’ clean energy industry is hiring, faster than the overall national economy, and it’s paying above-average wages. The 2022 U.S. Energy and Employment Report (USEER), released by the U.S. Department of Energy, details dramatic growth across every major clean energy occupation – especially in the electric vehicle industry. Meanwhile most of the fossil fuel industry continued losing jobs, even as the economy roared back from its COVID-induced downturn. Overall energy sector jobs rose 4% in 2021, adding more than 300,000 jobs to reach more than 7.8 million total energy-related jobs. U.S. energy sector job growth outpaced overall U.S. jobs growth, which rose 2.8% in 2021. Nearly 3.1 million of the total energy sector jobs are in net-zero aligned industries, composing 41% of total energy jobs. Net-zero aligned jobs are related to renewable energy, grid technologies, transmission and … [Read more...] about Clean Energy Jobs Are Booming, Making Up For Rising Fossil Fuel Unemployment

August 7, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin When companies create a job posting, they hope to attract the best talent. However, sometimes it backfires. For example, if a job listing uses misleading language or overly lengthy descriptions, it could end up repelling highly qualified candidates. Recently, the Paychex team surveyed Americans who have looked for a job within the past year. As a result, job seekers across the country shared their current standards for evaluating an open position and what constitutes a potential warning sign. Let’s look at what respondents considered to be the top ten job posting red flags and how they impact the application process . 1. No salary range specified Compensation is one of the most important aspects of a job—especially now. So, it's unsurprising that not including a salary range was the top red flag for job seekers (65%). For many candidates, omitting that information implies that perhaps the salary range is low. How To Make Your Job Application Stand Out

March 29, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Faced with too many job openings and not enough people to fill them, employers find it difficult to recruit top talent. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics , there were nearly 11 million job openings at the end of 2021, but only 6.3 million unemployed people. However, that doesn’t mean it’s easy to find a well-paying job with the perks and flexibility you crave. As companies hire more remote employees, they realize that they can recruit international workers, making competition stiff. And if you’re trying to make a career pivot, you may also be competing against more qualified candidates. That’s why it’s still important to make your job application stand out in a global marketplace. Here are some ways to do just that. The Surprising Reasons Why You Didn’t Get The Job

August 2, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin How many times have you gone on a job interview, thought you nailed it and never heard back? It feels like this is a regular occurrence—lack of constructive feedback and getting ghosted. Well, you are not alone. It has become the new standard. Here’s why you aren’t moving on to the next round of interviews or being offered the job. Why You Don’t Move Forward In The Interview Process Corporate management can’t be honest. They need to keep up appearances. The CEO and executives think they have to be in command of all the events at their firm. The top brass doesn’t want to admit problems, as they’re concerned about adverse publicity. This is one of the reasons why you don’t gain traction during the hiring process: the company may have a stealth hiring freeze policy. The firm doesn’t want to publicly announce this, as the media will pick it up and there will be the assumption that something is wrong at the company. … [Read more...] about The Surprising Reasons Why You Didn’t Get The Job

More Than 75% Of Employees Want To Work For Companies That Support Abortion Access: Survey

August 2, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Amid new restrictions on abortion in at least twelve states , many workers want their employers to take action. New research from LeanIn.Org reveals that most employees under age 40, regardless of their political affiliation, want to work for a company that supports access to abortion. Many of these employees would consider switching jobs to preserve this access. The LeanIn.Org researchers surveyed over 3,000 working individuals throughout the country, and the results definitively show a preference for organizations that support abortion access. Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Meta and founder of Lean In, said in a statement that the research “underscores just how essential abortion rights are for women’s financial security and careers.” She added, “This data makes it clearer than ever: the overturn of Roe vs. Wade jeopardizes women’s health and ability to make decisions that shape our lives and careers.” According to the … [Read more...] about More Than 75% Of Employees Want To Work For Companies That Support Abortion Access: Survey

Proposed Change to Workforce Law Could Boost Entrepreneurs

August 5, 2022 by www.inc.com

A House Republican wants to make sure a key workforce development law applies to entrepreneurs too. Earlier this week, Congressman Rick Allen of Georgia introduced the Startup Act . The legislation amends the 2014 Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, which is the primary federal law concerning workforce development that helps job seekers access education, training, and other support services and connects them with employers. The bill rewrites the text of the 2014 law by changing "jobseekers" to "jobseekers and entrepreneurs" so that business owners and those looking to start a business can access the same programs. The bill also expands the sorts of resources offered to include programs focused on entrepreneurial skills development. "Long before I was a Congressman, I was an entrepreneur. I spent almost four decades building and operating a small business," said Allen, who founded the construction company R.W. Allen & Associates before being elected to the … [Read more...] about Proposed Change to Workforce Law Could Boost Entrepreneurs
