Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Clothing brand St. Croix wasted no time following the death of Steve Jobs on October 5, 2011. The high-end knitwear maker implied credit for the Apple CEO's iconic black mock turtleneck while announcing sales of the $175 shirt allegedly favored by Jobs increased 100%. Jobs would purchase two dozen of the turtlenecks each year, St. Croix owner Bernhard Brenner claimed, saying the Apple CEO even called the company personally to express his appreciation of the shirt. It was a fable quickly debunked by a pre-published snippet in Walter Isaacson's much-anticipated Jobs biography which revealed a then-obscure tale of a friendship between Jobs and the real artist behind the turtleneck, Japanese designer Issey Miyake , who died on Friday, August 5, at age 84. St. Croix backpedaled while Miyake, for his part, quietly retired the turtleneck from the market in 2011 in honor of his late friend. Yet it's the … [Read more...] about Here’s The Real Story Of Issey Miyake And Steve Jobs’ Iconic Turtleneck

How This Entrepreneur Built the Hottest Plush Startup in Years
After 20 years of being in business, this is what I know for sure: Making customer service a priority is one of your best forms of protection, hands down. What does putting your customer first look like in practice? Asking them about their experience. Answering their questions in a timely manner. Delivering on your promises. Being consistent, truthful, and transparent. Developing products and services that actually solve problems, inspire joy, and then continuing to improve on the experience. Treating each and every person who engages with your brand like a friend. Refusing to settle. Taking responsibility for your mistakes and learning from them. Never forget: Establishing trust takes time, and can be lost in an instant. To build a successful business today, you must truly care about your customer. Few entrepreneurs I know embody this philosophy more wholeheartedly than Marissa Louie , CEO and chief designer of the hit magnetic stuffed animals, Animoodles . Editor Daily Rundown: The Mob Comes For Alito
THE MOB COMES FOR ALITO… ‘We Will Fight Back’ : Protesters Descend On Justice Alito’s House (VIDEOS) Pro-abortion protesters marched through Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito’s private neighborhood Monday, ending at the Alito’s home. “Shut Down DC” activists invited demonstrators to join them at a vigil at Alito’s home to protest the leaked version of his draft opinion that could pave the way to overturning the abortion case, Roe v. Wade. “The evening of Monday, May 9, we will hold a vigil for all these rights that Alito is threatening to take away,” Shut Down DC said in a statement. “Because it’s been impossible to reach him at the Supreme Court (especially now with the enormous fences), we will do it at his home.” The protesters chanted behind a “reproductive rights for all” banner, “If abortion rights come under attack, we will fight back,” according to footage captured by Samantha Renck from the Daily Caller News Foundation. “Your neighbor’s a real asshole,” … [Read more...] about Editor Daily Rundown: The Mob Comes For Alito
A New Circular Economy Example: Closing The Loop For Poop
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin When their children reach the age for “potty training” many parents read them the book, “ Everyone Poops .” That isn’t just a reality for humans - it applies to all animals including those raised for meat and dairy products. In all these cases the manure or sewage that is generated presents various hazards including human and animal pathogens, air pollution, water pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions. Yet at the same time these waste streams represent potential resources including water, fertilizer and energy. The failure to fully tap those resources is problematic – one could modify a line from a 1970s fundraising campaign to say that “waste is a terrible thing to waste.” Fortunately there are technological solutions to both deal with the hazards and enable the resource recovery opportunities. Municipal sewage treatment systems generally do a good job of mitigating environmental and public health risks, but most … [Read more...] about A New Circular Economy Example: Closing The Loop For Poop
London Stock Exchange says Refinitiv costs and savings on track
- A + A LONDON (Aug 5): The London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) said on Friday that costs and savings targets for integrating data company Refinitiv were on track and that it was launching a £750 million (US$911 million) share buy-back. Investors are closely monitoring the integration of Refinitiv, which LSEG bought for US$27 billion in 2021, after outages and concerns among some of them over the amount of money being spent to mesh two different cultures and systems. "We are managing costs well and we continue to make progress on achievement of synergies," LSEG chief executive David Schwimmer said in the company's half-year results statement. Shares in LSEG were up 1.9% in early trading. LSEG's Refinitiv purchase has transformed the 300-year-old London exchange into a group of which financial market data and analytics are larger than all its other business lines combined, pitting it against firms such as data leader Bloomberg and S&P Global. The integration … [Read more...] about London Stock Exchange says Refinitiv costs and savings on track
After The Forum
This article first appeared in City & Country, The Edge Malaysia Weekly, on July 25, 2022 - July 31, 2022. - A + A Additional questions from those who attended The Edge Malaysia RealTalk 2022 were sent via email after the event. Here are the responses from the speakers. Anthony Lee 1. I was recently informed by the joint management office that the unit on the 15th floor has a water leak and it is due to water dripping from the common toilet. May I know who is responsible for repairing this sewerage pipe/water leak? In strata properties, water leaks or seepages that emanate from a higher floor that affect the floor below may be termed as an inter-floor leakage. The source of water leakage is usually the bathrooms, toilets, sewerage, water pipes or roofing, resulting in water stains, paint damage, mould or bio-hazardous wastewater. Unfortunately, inter-floor leakage has become a serious and recurring systemic problem in high-rise … [Read more...] about After The Forum

ENERGY-STARVED EUROPE DIMS THE LIGHTS, CUTS THE A/C… JAZZ SHAW: Lights out, cold showers in Europe We still see news coverage coming out of Europe issuing “warnings” about a possible energy crisis, spurred in part by the removal of Russian oil and natural gas from the European market. […] The President of the European Commission warned people this week that the time to start conserving and building stockpiles of oil and natural gas was yesterday. And it’s not just going to be Germany and Italy that are suffering. It will be the entire continent. […] Germany previously secured a third of its natural gas from Russia. That amount has been slashed in half and may fall to zero before winter arrives. The Germans are shutting off the heat to public swimming pools and showers. Public spaces with outdoor lighting are having a percentage of the bulbs removed. Thermostats in government buildings and public schools are being lowered. In the Netherlands, a new public program has been … [Read more...] about Editor Daily Rundown: Energy-Starved Europe Dims The Lights, Cuts The A/C
Event Planning Platform Planned Survives Pandemic Lockdowns And Secures $18 Million A Round Funding
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin In-Person events and conferences have long represented a significant portion of corporate budgets. In fact, the global event industry was worth approximately $890 billion in 2020 and is expected to reach $2 trillion by 2028, according to Statista. The size of the market and complexity around planning and executing such events made the industry ripe for digital disruption like what happened to the travel booking and movie and sports ticketing industries. Yet no all-in-one tool existed until Planned . First launched in 2018 by two Montreal-based entrepreneurs, Marc-Antoine Bonin and Emeric Noël, Planned provides a single platform that allows in-person event planners to book everything they need for their events while providing visibility and control to managers. Why Opopop Believes They Can Reinvent Popcorn
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin After two decades as one of the leading innovators in the world of music and entertainment, Jonas Tempel was trying to figure out what was next. An off-handed comment to his friend Bradley Roulier about making popcorn cool led them to Opopop. I sat down with Tempel to learn more about Opopop, the pivot the company made during COVID, and the first question he asks any entrepreneur. Dave Knox: What is Opopop and where did the name come from? Jonas Tempel: The name Opopop is related to the origins of the company itself. We wanted to reimagine popcorn from the beginning and so we invented a name that would match the core ambition. To reinvent popcorn sounds very ridiculous, admittedly, but we felt like the category, and especially in the microwave sections, had lost some of the allure of what it was meant to be. And, having a long history in entrepreneurialism, I just really fell in love with the idea of the category. … [Read more...] about Why Opopop Believes They Can Reinvent Popcorn
