$100,000 Wine Gamble Turned Into 100-Point Scores From Top Wine Critics

May 14, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Sitting on the back porch drinking a beautiful glass of Cabernet Sauvignon, the sunset painted the sky with colors of saffron and gold; there, a veteran wine producer in Napa Valley took in the recent catastrophe that destroyed so much of his community while he contemplated the luck of no loss of human life in the disaster, and less importantly, that five of his best barrels of wine survived. All of a sudden the song "That Old Black Magic" started to play in his head, and he knew "Black Magic" would be the perfect name for those special barrels of wine as it was a "black moment" for his winery as they lost a lot of wine yet at the same time those barrels have an "aura of real magic". That moment happened after the 2014 massive 6.0-magnitude Napa Valley earthquake that violently destroyed wineries, structures and catapulted people out of their beds around 3 am. The victims were randomly selected as "some wineries lost … [Read more...] about $100,000 Wine Gamble Turned Into 100-Point Scores From Top Wine Critics

Inside Redesign Health’s Bid To Change The Healthcare Innovation Cycle

May 12, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Often misunderstood, Redesign Health’s model is a very different way to create, fund and launch healthcare startups, but will it pay off over the long term? Typically, a story starts with what a company is. In the case of Redesign Health , perhaps it’s best to start with what it isn’t. Redesign Health is not a venture capital (VC) firm, despite the fact that it's often listed among other VCs in funding press releases . It’s not a startup studio or accelerator, even though it’s named as a partner in building many early-stage healthcare companies. Instead, Redesign Health styles itself as “a company that powers innovation in healthcare by developing technologies, tools, and insights that lower the barriers to change across the industry.” What does that mean? After conversations with Redesign Health CEO Brett Shaheen, in addition to other entrepreneurs in the Redesign Health family, the answer is seemingly … [Read more...] about Inside Redesign Health’s Bid To Change The Healthcare Innovation Cycle

Dia Simms, Erin Harris, and Dan Sanborn founded the stand-alone company to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in the alcohol industry while also generating wealth and driving acquisitions. Pronghorn will act as a hybrid incubator and accelerator, making capital investments while also providing supercharging capabilities that allow brands to tap into industry-leading expertise and resources. Look at country’s financial performance before thinking of taking over Sapura Energy, says Mustapa

May 14, 2022 by www.theedgemarkets.com

- A + A JELI (May 14): The government must look at the country's financial performance before considering the proposal for Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) to take over Sapura Energy Bhd to prevent the oil and gas company from going bankrupt. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said careful consideration must be taken as the oil and gas industry is a strategic industry and taking into account that Sapura Energy is the world's second largest integrated oil and gas service provider. “Though the assistance (proposal) does not involve government funds, Petronas belongs to the government, so the government needs to think seriously before making a decision. "We are aware that many other small and medium companies in the industry are in difficulties and Sapura Energy is among the big companies affected," he told reporters after the opening ceremony of the Sungai Nibong Bridge, Kuala Balah here on Saturday (May 14). Somali police announce curfew in capital during Sunday’s presidential vote

May 14, 2022 by www.thestar.com.my

MOGADISHU (Reuters) - Police in Somalia have announced a 33-hour curfew on the capital Mogadishu that will keep almost all residents at home during a presidential election by lawmakers on Sunday, in which incumbent leader Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed is seeking a second term. Police spokesperson Abdifatah Aden announced at a press conference on Saturday a full curfew in the city, covering both traffic and people, from Saturday at 9:00 PM (1800 GMT) until Monday at 6:00 AM. Lawmakers, security personnel and all others officials involved in the vote are still free to move during those hours. The indirect election, in which lawmakers will pick a president, will take place in an airport hangar behind blast walls to help fend off potential Islamist attacks or meddling by factions within the security services. Mohamed is facing 37 opponents in the vote, including two former presidents, Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who analysts see as the frontrunners. Fed’s Mester backs half-point rate hikes in June and July

May 14, 2022 by www.theedgemarkets.com

- A + A (May 14): US Federal Reserve (Fed) Bank of Cleveland president Loretta Mester backed raising interest rates by half percentage points in the central bank’s next two policy meetings in order to tamp down surging inflation. “Unless there are some big surprises, I expect it to be appropriate to raise the policy rate by another 50 basis points in each of our next two meetings,” Mester said on Friday (May 13) in prepared remarks for a virtual appearance at the International Research Forum on Monetary Policy. Fed central bankers raised interest rates by a half point in their meeting earlier this month and chair Jerome Powell told reporters that similar moves were on the table in their next two meetings in June and July. Mester, who votes on monetary policy this year, said that once they got to September, the policy-setting Federal Open Market Committee should assess if it needs to do more to restrain inflation, which is running at the highest levels in 40 years. … [Read more...] about Fed’s Mester backs half-point rate hikes in June and July
