Jai Kisan provides a suite of financial services with a digital-first approach to its network of farmers and small and micro businesses through its application 'Bharat Khata’ in nine languages. The actor has purchased two adjacent flats in the posh Lokhandwala complex of suburban Mumbai and both apartments are on the 10th floor. The flats are registered under her mother, Dolly Sumankumar Dhawan’s name, as Ruhaanika is a minor. Registration documents accessed by IndexTap.com revealed that one of the flats cost Rs 2,74,50,000 while the other costs Rs 1,25,50,000. Dhawan paid stamp duties of Rs 13,72,500 and Rs 6,27,500 for each flat respectively. The first apartment is of size 1030 sq ft and the second 470 sq ft, the documents showed. The news follows a scheme revealed in August last year for Iran to use crypto-currencies to settle cross-border trade deals, as a way of bypassing the international banking system and avoiding the use of U.S. dollars. While at least one trade deal was settled using a cryptocurrency, it is not clear if there has been any wider take-up of the mechanism. A report by Russian news agency Vedomosti on January 16 cited Anton Tkachev, a member of the Russian parliament’s Committee on Informational Policy, Information Technology and Communications, as saying negotiations on the issue were ongoing, although there were some regulatory hurdles still to clear – not least the need for Russia to legalise cryptocurrencies, which is expected to happen later this year. Imagine if the Michelin Guide were to declare that France’s best restaurant was a bistro in Grenoble that serves American hotdogs and pretzels. Yeah, that’s how I reacted to the James Beard Foundation’s announcement that Chai Pani, which serves Indian street food in Asheville, North Carolina, was America’s most outstanding restaurant. Once I had retrieved my jaw from the floor, pride replaced my surprise. As an Indian-American, I have been gratified to see my gastronomic heritage go from the margins to the mainstream in the US.
