The Sicilian duo were making their first presentation after the fashion house was forced to apologise to Chinese customers in November 2018 for posting short clips on Instagram showing a Chinese woman eating pizza, spaghetti and a cannoli with chopsticks. The uproar escalated when Stefano Gabbana allegedly used poop emojis to describe China and hurled insults at the country and its people. But the pair steered clear of controversy at their Autumn-Winter 2019-2020 collection named Eleganza, or Elegance in Italian. The backdrop oozed 1930s Berlin decadence with giant red curtains, jazz and a master of ceremonies (shades of Joel Grey!) recreating a Cabaret ambience. But to highlight Italy's mastery of cloth, an atelier was also recreated with tailors and fitters taking measurements and cutting and stitching as the models walked up and down the ramp. Models showcased quirky styles, teaming tailcoats with plaid trousers, matador … [Read more...] about D&G unveil Italian oomph at Milan after China fiasco

Italians love the World Cup, even when they're not in it 'Mondiali' (World Cup) was the single most searched term in 2018, despite the fact that Italy failed to qualify for football's biggest contest. It also topped the list of events searched for in what was an exceptionally eventful year: Italians looked up the World Cup more than they searched for the general election or the disastrous collapse of Genoa's Morandi Bridge. The Italian internet is morbidly curious Four of the top five most searched names were famous figures who died this year: Italian-born businessman Sergio Marchionne, formerly of Fiat Chrysler; Fabrizio Frizzi, TV presenter and national treasure (as well as the voice of the Italian Woody in the dubbed versions of Toy Story); Swedish DJ Avicii, dead at 28; and Davide Astori, the Fiorentina footballer who died suddenly of a suspected heart attack. The only living member of the top five was Cristiano Ronaldo, who joined Turin's own Juventus in … [Read more...] about ‘What does sexist mean?’: What Italy Googled most in 2018

The agreement is the first that Ryanair has signed and which has been been approved by union members since the Irish airline caved in last year and said it would recognise trade unions. "Today’s vote in Italy comes shortly after Irish union FORSA has signed, and recommended, a mediation agreement to Ryanair’s Irish pilots, who are … [Read more...] about Ryanair reaches historic agreement with Italian pilot union
