(Photo by Zahid Izzani Mohd Said/The Edge) - A + A SHAH ALAM (May 17): The High Court was on Tuesday (May 17) told that the minutes of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for the contract of Ultra Kirana Sdn Bhd (UKSB) to be extended as the sole operator of the foreign visa system (VLN) to Malaysia in China was not an order. UKSB director Datuk Fadzil Ahmad said even though Najib was the prime minister and the head of the Cabinet then, the power to approve the VLN contract was under the Home Ministry (KDN). “For me, the source and jurisdiction of authority [to extend the contract] of all my applications began only with KDN. It did not start at the PM’s office, so to me, the PM (Najib) can merely assist to expedite, not to give an order,” the witness … [Read more...] about Najib’s minutes to Zahid on visa contract not an order, says UKSB director

Nestlé is flying baby formula into America as shortage continues
New York (CNN Business) Nestlé is rushing baby formula into the United States via airfreight in a bid to ease a nationwide shortage that is unnerving parents around the country. In a statement to CNN on Tuesday, Nestlé said it is flying in some baby formula produced outside the United States, including Gerber Good Start Extensive HA from the Netherlands and Alfamino from Switzerland. Biden Wants Taxpayers To Fund Massive Mining Projects — Just Not In The US
The Biden administration asked lawmakers earlier this month to allow the Pentagon to allocate funds for foreign critical mineral projects. “By removing key barriers to the execution of DPA authorities, the industrial base will be better positioned to provide the DoD with critical technology, resulting in increased industrial base readiness and lethality,” the Pentagon said in the request. “The Biden Administration continues to put American union workers last and look anywhere else but domestically for minerals, the opposite of what Biden pledged to do before taking office,” said Minnesota Rep. Pete Stauber, the top Republican on the Natural Resources Energy and Mineral Subcommittee. The Biden administration asked Congress to allow the Department of Defense (DoD) to fund foreign critical mineral facilities in the annual defense spending bill. So you want to move to Vietnam?
“Whilst Thailand is often nicknamed the ‘land of a thousand 7-elevens’, with a convenience store on just about every corner, there are very few of these in Vietnam, for now.” With the Thai Baht on a high at the moment, along with stricter enforcement of visa rules, some expats say they’ve had enough and are heading to Vietnam, or some other south east Asian country, where they might improve their personal situation. For example, an expat pensioner, on a fixed income, from a country where the Thai baht has risen against your currency, Thailand has become a more expensive option – perhaps impossible to make ends meet anymore with your old pension. The British pound, as just one currency, has gone from around 55 baht to the pound four years ago, to now around 39 baht, a big loss in value. Meanwhile the cost of living in Thailand has risen over the last decade. But Vietnam has its own challenges and, whilst being an amazing place to explore as a tourist, may not be to everyone’s … [Read more...] about So you want to move to Vietnam?

Amber Heard questioned about drug use after accusing Johnny Depp of becoming a ‘monster’ when under the influence
(CNN) Amber Heard returned to the witness stand on Tuesday to continue testifying under cross-examination in the $50 million defamation case with ex-husband Johnny Depp. After testifying over several days that Depp's drug and alcohol use would turn him into a "monster" who would be violent with her, an attorney for Depp pointedly questioned Heard about her own drug use, including scheduling time for "drugs" at the couple's 2015 wedding. "Who was the real monster in this relationship, Ms. Heard?" asked Depp's attorney Camille Vasquez on Tuesday. "It's half of Johnny. It's not all of Johnny. The other half of him is wonderful and beautiful and the man I loved," Heard testified. Depp has accused Heard of defaming him in a 2018 op-ed for the Washington Post. In the piece, which published roughly two years after they divorced, Heard described herself as a "public figure representing domestic abuse." Though Depp was not named in the article, he claims it … [Read more...] about Amber Heard questioned about drug use after accusing Johnny Depp of becoming a ‘monster’ when under the influence
