Under the legislation, the payments must be distributed by this Friday, January 15. While the IRS said last week that two-thirds of eligible payments have already been sent out, technical glitches and distribution errors have caused delays for many Americans. Some may eventually receive their payment via direct deposit, or in the mail through a debit card or paper check, but many other eligible taxpayers may be forced to claim their payment as a credit on their 2020 tax forms in order to receive the cash. … [Read more...] about IRS stimulus check update: What to know about mailed payments and the Friday deadline

We’re in the midst of a caregiving crisis. Here’s how Biden may address it
Now that Democrats have eked out control of the Senate, Biden stands a better chance of actually getting things done as president. But a 50-50 split, with Vice President-elect Kamala Harris serving as the tie-breaking vote, is hardly a comfortable majority, especially with the filibuster and a shrinking majority in the House. Parts of Biden’s caregiving agenda—tax credits for caregivers, for example—have some degree of bipartisan support, and Congress did manage to pass the Families First Coronavirus Response Act last year, which secured paid family leave for many workers. Creative Cultures: MailChimp Grants Employees “Permission To Be Creative”
MailChimp has added a splash of mischief to a product category not known for…well, much of anything. The company’s mascot is a chimp in a mail carrier’s uniform. The Atlanta-based company today has more than 825,000 subscribers worldwide, including both individuals and organizations like TED, Gawker, Vice, Harmonix and The Economist (Eds. note: and Fast Company–no, we’re not getting a rate break on the back of this piece), and is sending 1.75 billion emails per month. That loose creative culture has also gone hand-in-hand with a deliberate, profits-first approach … [Read more...] about Creative Cultures: MailChimp Grants Employees “Permission To Be Creative”
Where Getting a Mild Electrical Shock Is Part of Your Job: How Tough Mudder Rewards Achievement Outside The Office
But for the employees at Tough Mudder’s Brooklyn headquarters, the company’s focus on physicality is more about encouraging staff to garner experience, rather than rewarding them for having the lowest body fat percentage. Many departments ask employees to have a personal objective for the year–whether it’s taking time out for surfing or to attend a cooking class–and they’re held to those personal objectives just as they would be held to a workplace objective like getting more sponsors. … [Read more...] about Where Getting a Mild Electrical Shock Is Part of Your Job: How Tough Mudder Rewards Achievement Outside The Office
These are some of the new jobs emerging in 2021 and beyond
Culture-focused professionals The past year also brought renewed attention to the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) roles within organizations. Chamberlain says there is an increasing demand for those professionals, especially chief diversity officers. “DEI has grown pretty dramatically in the last few years. Partly it’s because of social-political trends. But partly, it’s because there’s a growing awareness among executives, about the research about the business case for diversity and inclusion,” he says. “Today, there’s pretty clear academic work, showing companies make better decisions and enjoy better financial performance when they have more diverse voices.” … [Read more...] about These are some of the new jobs emerging in 2021 and beyond
