“I was worried that my boss, who’s in his fifties, would see me as a ‘special, fragile, millennial snowflake’ who wasn’t committed to my job,” journalist and podcaster Molly Woodstock told me. They wanted to shift their work hours to accommodate a therapy appointment. Though Woodstock knew it was “a super reasonable and necessary request,” they were still afraid of having that conversation. advertisement advertisement As a writer and trainer on disability issues—particularly mental illness—I hear these sorts of stories all the time. Employees across industries have a lot of questions: Can an employer insist I tell them why I need time off, or ask me for a doctor’s note? Will I be passed up for promotions if I disclose a mental illness? Can they fire me for taking “too many” days off? Here’s what you should know when navigating mental health in the workplace: What legal protections do I have? … [Read more...] about What to know about calling out sick for mental health reasons

I tried to understand location tracking. It’s nearly impossible
Earlier this month, Foursquare launched a special feature for users in Austin, Texas, called Hypertrending. The idea was to show off the company’s location tracking technology to attendees of the South by Southwest conference by creating a heat map of the city. The Hypertrending map ranked all of the public places in Austin based on how many people were in each location; during the conference, the Austin Convention Center was ranked first, with the local airport and the University of Texas second and third. NCLT again seeks clarity on Jet slots from DGCA, Civil Aviation Ministry
The National Company Law Tribunal on December 11 once again directed the regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the aviation ministry to give clarity on the available Jet Airways slots.Airport slots, the permit for arrival and departure at an airport, play an important role for potential bidders to value the grounded airline. After Jet Airways went bust in mid-April, government temporarily allotted the hundreds of slots owned by Jet to other carriers, with an apparent bid to contain soaring airfares in the peak holiday season.
