The Electric Daisy Carnival is the largest electronic dance music festival in the U.S., welcoming 100,000 fans to Las Vegas to visit a psychedelic world, mostly after dark. advertisement advertisement Through several new lenses, Snap will help you navigate to the right stage, check set lists, and even beeline directly to your friends through the crowd. And, of course, the app will provide some of Snap’s fantastical AR lenses, too . Playing off EDC’s own iconography, there will be three-story bioluminescent mushrooms that sprout from the ground where you tap, and a dragon-sized owl that will fly through the sky for your snaps. The work was teased earlier this year, as Snap announced a multiyear partnership with Live Nation to provide AR experiences for its shows. Despite all the unrealized hype around augmented reality, the size and impact of this particular partnership shouldn’t be ignored. With at least a dozen festivals planned together thus far, … [Read more...] about Music festivals are a UX nightmare. Here’s how Snap and Live Nation are fixing them

Digital transformation – Reimagining businesses with a difference
Madhusudhan KM Moneycontrol Contributor In the digitally-driven world of today, strategic organisational direction for most businesses is not complete without weaving in a robust digital strategy. The right approach to an effective digital strategy is to first re-imagine business processes and then think about how technologies can help realise them. Thinking of just "digitising" existing business processes, and not overhauling them, would only give incremental benefit, but that won't differentiate them from competitors. For example, for millennial leisure travellers, booking processes could be completely reimagined by allowing one to search for "I have $1000. Tell me where I can go for a nice beach vacation". This is a completely different approach from allowing travel searches based on an origin-destination pair. The latter assumes that the traveller knows exactly where he/she wants to go. The new approach could allow for way more exploration and discovery and an … [Read more...] about Digital transformation – Reimagining businesses with a difference
Keeler: Nazem Kadri got what he deserved Friday. So did the Blues, who gave Avalanche their best shot and still got stomped.
Nazem Kadri’s rap sheet is so long, at this point, you could zipline that bugger over the Royal Gorge. Counting Friday night, the Avs center’s now been suspended six times by the NHL since November 2013. It’s the man’s fourth multi-game suspension over his last 23 playoff appearances. I don’t care what the NHL rulebook says. I don’t care what a good citizen Kadri had been in burgundy for the 18 months prior to Wednesday. Nasty Naz is the walking, breathing, skating, head-hunting definition of a “repeat offender.” Eight games? He got what was coming. He got lucky. “It’s a lot of games,” Avs winger Brandon Saad said of Kadri after Colorado stomped the Blues in St. Louis 5-1 to snatch a 3-0 stranglehold in their first-round playoff series. “That’s a tough one for our team. Have to solider on, next man up, and try to win games without him.” If Game 3 was any harbinger, that shouldn’t be much of an issue. Not during this round, kids. The Avs are in the Blues’ heads now, as … [Read more...] about Keeler: Nazem Kadri got what he deserved Friday. So did the Blues, who gave Avalanche their best shot and still got stomped.
E-hailing service providers to explain alleged fare hikes
Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (The Edge filepix by Suhaimi Yusuf) - A + A KUALA LUMPUR (May 22): The Ministry of Transport (MOT) is looking into e-hailing services and holding discussions with the service providers, following complaints that the increasingly expensive fares are becoming a burden to consumers. Its minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said he had instructed the top management to call the companies involved to provide an explanation and clarification on the alleged increase in fares. "An increase from RM20 to RM70 in the current situation is seen as burdensome to the people, so I think as a policymaker, we will see if any party is taking advantage to make a profit. "I've also asked the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) to review, ask the companies to explain what really happened. In a day two I expect them to give an explanation so that we can see in terms of what we should do and whether to encourage more competition." He said this to reporters … [Read more...] about E-hailing service providers to explain alleged fare hikes
Indonesia’s fractured student movement losing power to effect change
JAKARTA, May 22 (Jakarta Post/ANN): Indonesia’s student movement is struggling to retain its role as an agent of change, as previously united fronts fragment and alliances with the governing elite are nurtured, not avoided. Over the past five years, a number of student demonstrations have been staged in protest of state policies deemed detrimental to the welfare of the people and to democracy. However, these protests have either been ignored by policymakers or have been met with state violence. During the 2019 #ReformasiDikorupsi (reform corrupted) protests in opposition to several controversial pieces of legislation, for instance, university students took to the streets in cities across the country alongside workers’ and farmers’ unions. The students opposed the electoral candidacy of former graft busters, as well as plans to revise the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Law and the Mining Law. They also called for ongoing human rights abuse cases to be resolved and for … [Read more...] about Indonesia’s fractured student movement losing power to effect change
Do These 3 Things Before Bed To Hack Your Creativity While You Sleep
Editor’s Note: This article is part of “10 Ways To Be A Better Employee In 2015.” Read the full list here. advertisement advertisement Imagine hacking into your own brain while you sleep, finding unrelated details or ideas that were never connected and mashing them up to get a solution to whatever problem has been wracking your brain. It can and has been done. What you do before bed can play a role in how primed your brain is for this kind of creativity. Research has repeatedly found that sleep improves people’s ability to come up with creative solutions to problems. Psychologists from UC San Diego found that REM sleep improves the creative process more than any other state–asleep or awake. And often the solutions to problems come to us when we are sleeping because of a phenomenon cognitive scientists call “pattern recognition.” This happens when the brain is in a relaxed enough state to create new connections and neural pathways–also known as … [Read more...] about Do These 3 Things Before Bed To Hack Your Creativity While You Sleep
Abortion Pills Stand to Become the Next Battleground in a Post-Roe America
(Image: AP) If the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, the legal and culture wars over abortion that have consumed the United States for decades would increasingly be fought on a new front: abortion pills. Medication abortion — a two-drug combination that can be taken at home or in any location and is authorized for use in the first 10 weeks of pregnancy — has become more and more prevalent and now accounts for more than half of recent abortions in the United States. If the federal guarantee of abortion rights disappears, medication abortion would likely become an even more sought-after method for terminating a pregnancy — and the focus of battles between states that ban abortion and those that continue to allow it. “Given that most abortions are early and medication abortion is harder to trace and already kind of becoming the majority or preferred method, it’s going to be a big deal,” said Mary Ziegler, a visiting law professor at Harvard. “It’s going to generate a lot of … [Read more...] about Abortion Pills Stand to Become the Next Battleground in a Post-Roe America

Zilingo ex-CEO Ankiti Bose says receiving threats, calls sacking ‘witch-hunt’
Ankiti Bose said she and her family were receiving constant threats online. (Image: @ankitibose/Instagram) Ankiti Bose, the Indian-origin founder of Singapore based B2B startup Zilingo has been fired on grounds of “insubordination” after a 51-day suspension. Bose, 30, shared a note on Instagram vowing to act against the “witch-hunt”. "I was suspended on the basis that the company had instructed Kroll to investigate the complaint. I have neither seen the Kroll nor Deloitte reports and not been given sufficient time to produce any documents requested by them,” Bose wrote. "Any report that comes out post my termination would be vitiated as it seems to be instructed by conflicted parties and we will pursue our rights against this witch-hunt to the full extent of the law. I will be speaking on record shortly with more details about the conflicts of interest in the manner this process was run,” she added.
