RM132mil funding boost for Fire and Rescue Dept
KEPALA BATAS: Some 13,000 firemen in the country are set to receive a RM132mil boost in funding to deliver better services to the people. Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said the allocation for the department's development was approved under the country's Second Rolling Plan 2022. "We thank the 'red warriors' for their dedicated services to the people. "They are applauded for their fast response in life and death situations. They are the first line of responders in many emergencies and disasters. "This celebration is to recognise the dedication of over 13,000 firemen at 327 stations as well as 2,000 auxiliary firemen and 13,000 more voluntary firemen in the country," he said during the national-level World Firemen Day celebration at Dewan Milenium in Bertam here on Sunday (May 22). Approximately RM19.8mil in lost to Macau scams in Selangor this year
SHAH ALAM: Macau scam cases in the state are at an alarming level with 156 cases recorded from January to April this year involving RM19.8mil in losses. Selangor police chief Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed said of the total, the majority of cases involved fraudulent online transactions by scammers posing as officers from the Inland Revenue Board, Employees Provident Fund Lembaga Tabung Haji as well as individuals selling goods in large quantities. Speaking at the Police Undergraduate Voluntary Corps (Kor SUKSIS) graduation ceremony, here on Sunday (May 22), he said the victims of online fraud cases comprised people from various backgrounds including civil servants and private sector employees. NSE crash: Safety audit results of trailer involved in fatal accident to be known next week
KUALA TERENGGANU: The results of the Road Transport Department’s (JPJ) Inspection and Safety Audit (JISA) on the trailer involved in the crash that killed five Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah (Usas) students on the North-South Expressway (NSE) on May 12 is expected to be known next week. JPJ director-general Datuk Zailani Hashim (pic) said the department was currently collecting information regarding road safety and commercial vehicle safety aspects of the trailer. He said the department was also checking if the trailer had undergone tests at Pusat Pemeriksaan Kenderaan Berkomputer (Puspakom) and was in compliance with all regulations and specifications. RM21mil lost in giant Macau scam
GEORGE TOWN: A businessman from Port Dickson lost a record RM21mil in a Macau scam after he allegedly revealed his bank Transaction Authorisation Code (TAC) numbers to a “bank official”. However, the 63-year-old victim was not from Penang as reported recently, said Selangor Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) chief Asst Comm Azman Ali. “The victim is a millionaire and has several businesses in Bukit Kemuning, Shah Alam, and Kuala Lumpur. “From the report that we received from the victim, he is from Port Dickson and not Penang as alleged,” he said briefly when contacted. The case is believed to be the biggest Macau scam ever recorded by the police for a single victim in recent years. ACP Azman said the victim lodged a police report in Shah Alam on May 6 after realising that his money had been transferred to other unknown accounts. AP abolition right move to ensure continuity of food supplies, says Nanta
PUTRAJAYA: The abolition of the approved permits (AP) for food products is in line with the government’s desire to ensure continuity in supplies, says Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi (pic) . The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister said it was also expected to create excess of supplies in the market that would benefit consumers as food products are easily available compared to the current situation. “The market involving basic necessities will be more competitive and is projected to trigger a drop in prices based on a certain quantum, depending on the quality and packaging aspects,” he said in a statement Sunday (May 22). Faulty lifts, escalators in Ampang Park LRT fully operational again, says Dr Wee
KUALA LUMPUR: The faulty lifts and escalators in the Ampang Park LRT station are fully operational again after an inspection by the Health and Safety Department, says the Transport Minister. Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong added that the facilities were available for public use from Sunday (May 22). "Detailed supervision and inspection by the department were carried out today for all lifts and escalators at the Ampang Park LRT Station to ensure its safety.," he told the media on Sunday. Dr Wee said 96.5% of lifts and 90% of escalators in all RapidRail stations were operational. However, he added the remaining facilities could be under maintenance and waiting for spare parts. The minister said that the delay in maintenance was due to a supply shortage of spare parts, citing import disruptions from China.
