(Image: AP) If the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, the legal and culture wars over abortion that have consumed the United States for decades would increasingly be fought on a new front: abortion pills. Medication abortion — a two-drug combination that can be taken at home or in any location and is authorized for use in the first 10 weeks of pregnancy — has become more and more prevalent and now accounts for more than half of recent abortions in the United States. If the federal guarantee of abortion rights disappears, medication abortion would likely become an even more sought-after method for terminating a pregnancy — and the focus of battles between states that ban abortion and those that continue to allow it. “Given that most abortions are early and medication abortion is harder to trace and already kind of becoming the majority or preferred method, it’s going to be a big deal,” said Mary Ziegler, a visiting law professor at Harvard. “It’s going to generate a lot of … [Read more...] about Abortion Pills Stand to Become the Next Battleground in a Post-Roe America

Music festivals are a UX nightmare. Here’s how Snap and Live Nation are fixing them
The Electric Daisy Carnival is the largest electronic dance music festival in the U.S., welcoming 100,000 fans to Las Vegas to visit a psychedelic world, mostly after dark. advertisement advertisement Through several new lenses, Snap will help you navigate to the right stage, check set lists, and even beeline directly to your friends through the crowd. And, of course, the app will provide some of Snap’s fantastical AR lenses, too . Playing off EDC’s own iconography, there will be three-story bioluminescent mushrooms that sprout from the ground where you tap, and a dragon-sized owl that will fly through the sky for your snaps. The work was teased earlier this year, as Snap announced a multiyear partnership with Live Nation to provide AR experiences for its shows. Despite all the unrealized hype around augmented reality, the size and impact of this particular partnership shouldn’t be ignored. With at least a dozen festivals planned together thus far, … [Read more...] about Music festivals are a UX nightmare. Here’s how Snap and Live Nation are fixing them
Bot Or Not: How HipChat Uses Automation For Team Productivity
The HipChat team gets a lot of value out of bots because we know when to use them and when apps are a better choice. To be fair, not every team spends their days obsessing over the ins and outs for group messaging platforms like we do, so sometimes it isn’t always clear what to automate–or even what the options are. advertisement advertisement But you don’t have to be an engineer to squeeze the most productivity out of your team on whichever collaborative platform your company uses. It’s all about deciding what type of task you need to complete. Here’s how we make that call, then look for the right means of automating it–or not. To Bot Or Not To Bot? In these situations, the … [Read more...] about Bot Or Not: How HipChat Uses Automation For Team Productivity

Actress Anne Hathaway, actor Michael Banks Repeta, director James Gray, actor Jaylin Webb and actor Jeremy Strong pose during a photocall for the film “Armageddon Time” at the 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, southern France, on May 20, 2022. Gray said 1980, with Reagan’s election, the looming threat of nuclear war with the Soviet Union, his hero Muhammad Ali’s “humiliating” loss to Larry Holmes and the murder of John Lennon in Manhattan gave the film its title. “I also believe that was the beginning of a Market-is-God idea … [Read more...] about ‘Armageddon Time’: All-star Cannes contender tracks dawn of Trump’s America
AP abolition right move to ensure continuity of food supplies, says Nanta
PUTRAJAYA: The abolition of the approved permits (AP) for food products is in line with the government’s desire to ensure continuity in supplies, says Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi (pic) . The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister said it was also expected to create excess of supplies in the market that would benefit consumers as food products are easily available compared to the current situation. “The market involving basic necessities will be more competitive and is projected to trigger a drop in prices based on a certain quantum, depending on the quality and packaging aspects,” he said in a statement Sunday (May 22). On Wednesday (May 18), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had said the government agreed not to impose AP for the import of foodstuff with immediate effect to ensure sufficient food supply in the country. However, he said it would take some time for the AP abolition to have a positive impact on consumers as it depended on several … [Read more...] about AP abolition right move to ensure continuity of food supplies, says Nanta
Muhyiddin: Food AP policy needs further study
BUTTERWORTH: The move to abolish Approved Permits (APs) for food imports will need to be studied further to ensure it not only benefits the country but also does not jeopardise the local food production industry in the face of a looming global food shortage, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. The National Recovery Council chairman and former premier said this policy change should not be done at the expense of local entrepreneurs. “There is a need to have balance. Don’t let them get the perception that the government is not helping them,” he said after attending Penang Gerakan’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house at Autocity here yesterday. He said that while the abolition of APs for food imports (excluding rice) is in line with the World Trade Organisation’s stand of not allowing restrictions on food trade, it must not bring any negative effects to the local agriculture and food industries, as there may be an ensuing overflow of imported agriculture and food products into the country. … [Read more...] about Muhyiddin: Food AP policy needs further study
Digital transformation – Reimagining businesses with a difference
Madhusudhan KM Moneycontrol Contributor In the digitally-driven world of today, strategic organisational direction for most businesses is not complete without weaving in a robust digital strategy. The right approach to an effective digital strategy is to first re-imagine business processes and then think about how technologies can help realise them. Thinking of just "digitising" existing business processes, and not overhauling them, would only give incremental benefit, but that won't differentiate them from competitors. For example, for millennial leisure travellers, booking processes could be completely reimagined by allowing one to search for "I have $1000. Tell me where I can go for a nice beach vacation". This is a completely different approach from allowing travel searches based on an origin-destination pair. The latter assumes that the traveller knows exactly where he/she wants to go. The new approach could allow for way more exploration and discovery and an … [Read more...] about Digital transformation – Reimagining businesses with a difference
SC transfers Gyanvapi suit to district judge, says religious character of place can be ascertained
Representative image The Supreme Court Friday transferred the civil suit filed by Hindu devotees on Gyanvapi mosque from civil judge (senior division) to district judge, Varanasi saying looking at the complexities and sensitivity of the issue, it is better if a senior judicial officer having an experience of over 25-30 years handles this case. In an important observation, the top court also said that the process to ascertain the religious character of a place of worship is not barred under the Places of Worship Act of 1991. A bench of Justices DY Chandrachud, Surya Kant, and PS Narasimha said that the matter involves complexity and sensitivity and it would be better if a district judge handles the case and made it clear that it is not casting any aspersion on the civil judge (senior division) who was earlier dealing with the suit. Having regard to the complexities of the issue involved in the case, in the civil suit and their sensitivity, we are of the considered view that … [Read more...] about SC transfers Gyanvapi suit to district judge, says religious character of place can be ascertained
