Automakers’ Double Downgrade
Among the stocks hit hard yesterday were those of big automakers. GM ( GM ) and Ford ( F) were given double-downgrades by Wells Fargo auto analyst Colin Langan. The analyst went straight from buy ratings on the stocks to an outright sell, skipping a neutral rating. In his 77-page report, Langan said that the recent spike in raw material prices have “massively changed the economics of the transition to battery electric vehicles." Langan said he believes the spike in raw material prices like nickel has delayed the cost parity between EVs and gas-powered cars by “at least a decade.” He said supply chain pressures will also hurt the automakers’ planned transition to EV production. He noted that 2022 could be a year for “peak profits” for the legacy automakers. Langan also slashed his price targets. He took his target for GM from $74 down to $33, and dropped his Ford target from $24 to $12. GM shares closed down nearly 5% at $35.56, while shares of Ford closed down 3% at … [Read more...] about Automakers’ Double Downgrade
Survey: America’s Uninsured Rate Is Down To 10% – And Falling
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin New data has raised a tantalizing possibility: That for the first time, America's uninsured rate will fall below 10%. (If it hasn't already; the most recently reported data was collected three months ago.) The findings come from the Urban Institute's Health Reform Monitoring Survey , a quarterly survey of non-elderly Americans. And as of March 2015, the Urban Institute's survey found that 10.0% of nonelderly adults were uninsured, down from 17.8% in September 2013, before the Affordable Care Act's insurance exchanges first launched. No major survey has ever found that the uninsured rate in America has hit single digits. However, the uninsured rate is already down to 7.5% in states that have expanded Medicaid under Obamacare, Urban researchers concluded. Of course, Urban's data is just one snapshot of the uninsured in America. Different surveys use different questions and methodologies. Some are thought … [Read more...] about Survey: America’s Uninsured Rate Is Down To 10% – And Falling

NEW YORK, May 18 (Xinhua) -- U.S. traffic deaths jumped 10.5 percent in 2021 to 42,915, the highest number killed on American roads in a single year since 2005, according to U.S. regulators' preliminary estimate released on Tuesday. "We face a crisis on America's roadways that we must address together," U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg was quoted as saying. Traffic deaths surged after coronavirus lockdowns ended in 2020 as more drivers engaged in unsafe behavior like speeding and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, said the report. Forty-four U.S. states and the District of Columbia all are projected to have an increase in traffic deaths, it added. … [Read more...] about U.S. traffic fatalities up 10.5 pct in 2021 to highest level since 2005: regulators
