Source: Reuters The focus on supportive measures for renewable energy (RE), strengthening of the transmission & distribution (T&D) network and improving the viability of the distribution segment is likely to continue in the coming Budget given the criticality of the power sector for economic growth of the country and the strong policy focus on renewables. With improving tariff competitiveness and policy thrust, renewable energy (particularly, solar, wind and hybrid segment) will remain a key driver of the capacity addition nationally. There is a strong project pipeline of about 50 GW, comprising both projects awarded through Central nodal agencies as well as through state agencies. ICRA expects a capacity addition of about 70 GW in RE in the period till March 2025, necessitating an investment outlay of about Rs.3.5-4.0 lac crore. In this context, ICRA expects supportive policy measures in the Budget to ensure availability of long tenure financing avenues for such … [Read more...] about Budget 2021 expectations | Renewables & strengthening of power distribution segment is key for power sector: ICRA

Google’s Nexus Q Teases A Future Of Smart, Social Hardware
At first glance, it makes little sense. It’s a black sphere with a thin strip of rainbow pulsating LEDs. Maybe it’s something crafted in the deepest dungeons of Sony without the suits finding out, like the Rolly–conceptual masturbation more than a consumer good, something made mostly because it could be. advertisement advertisement In reality, it’s the Nexus Q , Google’s remarkably practical spherical media streamer. It has the guts of a tablet–in fact, the same internal horsepower as you’ll find in the Nexus 7 along with an amplifier–and the body of a sci-fi bocce ball. Look closer, and it does have “buttons” of a sort. Twisting the unit can change the volume, and tapping it will mute the machine. Its only design nod to the year 2012 is a slew of cords pouring out its back for speakers, home automation, HD videos, and even “general hackability,” as Google mentioned in their press conference. With so few identifiable features, the Q becomes something … [Read more...] about Google’s Nexus Q Teases A Future Of Smart, Social Hardware
Sellers in Control After American Express Earnings
Dow component American Express Company ( AXP ) is trading lower on Friday morning after meeting fourth quarter earnings expectations and slightly raising fiscal year 2019 revenue guidance . A 14% year-over-year increase in loss reserves may have spooked investors concerned about loan quality, but the limited downturn has had little impact on an already bearish technical outlook in the aftermath of December's brutal 22% decline. The financial services giant plunged from an all-time high last month, trapping complacent shareholders who will now think twice about reloading long positions. While the rout held February support , it broke the 200-day exponential moving average (EMA) by 13 points and hasn't remounted that long-term barrier in January price action. This suggests that short sellers are now rounding the wagons, looking for the perfect price to jump back on board. AXP Long-Term Chart (1995 – 2018) The stock broke out above the 1987 high in 1995, entering a … [Read more...] about Sellers in Control After American Express Earnings
Natural gas tops US$9 in US as supply crunch concerns mount
- A + A (May 25): Natural gas surged above US$9 per million British thermal units in the US for the first time since 2008, extending a breakneck rally as fears of a supply crunch intensified. Stockpiles of the heating and power-plant fuel are below normal for this time of year as exports are booming, and output from shale basins is muted. Traders anticipate higher-than-usual gas needs this summer to fuel US power plants as consumers and businesses crank up air conditioners to combat hotter weather. Meanwhile, hydro-power generation and coal supplies are severely constrained, leaving limited alternatives to gas. Reflecting growing concerns about replenishing depleted stockpiles ahead of the winter, gas for July delivery has traded at an unusual premium over contracts for February. And the so-called widowmaker spread between gas delivered in March and April — essentially a bet on how low inventories will be by the end of winter — widened to the highest ever for this … [Read more...] about Natural gas tops US$9 in US as supply crunch concerns mount
Global Chip Supply-Demand Imbalance Is Spurring Industry Change: NXP CEO Kurt Sievers
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin As the global semiconductor industry approaches mid-year, demand continues to exceed supply, spurring changes in the government role in the industry and in the way suppliers partner with customers, NXP Semiconductors CEO Kurt Sievers said in online presentation at Taiwan’s biggest annual technology fair on Tuesday. The industry in the past two years has been “pretty challenged,” said the leader of Eindhoven, Netherlands-headquartered NXP, one of the world’s largest chip suppliers, particularly to an auto industry facing transformation toward electric vehicles and away from traditional internal combustion engine technology. “Pretty much after the pandemic was hitting the world in the beginning of 2020, the demand for semiconductors saw an unprecedented growth — I would almost call it an explosion of demand,” Sievers said. The increase, he said, has been in part due to the acceleration of “edge” computing that moves … [Read more...] about Global Chip Supply-Demand Imbalance Is Spurring Industry Change: NXP CEO Kurt Sievers
Intel Fails Major Breakout After Reducing Guidance
Dow component Intel Corporation ( INTC ) fell more than 7% in Thursday's post-market session after beating first quarter profit and revenues estimates by the smallest margins while substantially reducing second quarter and fiscal year guidance . The chip giant blamed falling NAND prices and 10-nanometer (10nm) production issues for the shortfall, but it expressed hope for market conditions to "improve in the second half." The stock failed to bounce overnight and will open Friday's session at a four-week low around $53. That doesn't seem too bad, but the decline has cut through the 2018 high at $57.60, signaling a failed breakout that may induce additional selling pressure in coming weeks. More ominously, that dead weight could affect the PHLX Semiconductor Index (SOX), generating a similar failure that has the potential to end the sector's bull market. INTC Long-Term Chart (1992 – 2019) A mild uptrend that started in 1986 escalated in 1992 at the cusp of a historic … [Read more...] about Intel Fails Major Breakout After Reducing Guidance
