Nineteen Covid deaths were reported — all patients were in their 70s to 90s, of which eight had not been vaccinated, CNA said on Sunday. Of the 672,998 domestic cases reported in Taiwan from Jan. 1 to May 14, 1,151 involved moderate infections and 294 were severe, accounting for 0.17 percent and 0.04 percent of the total; the rest were mild or asymptomatic, the news agency said. Against that backdrop, the Taiwan External Trade Development Council on Wednesday reconfirmed earlier announced plans for its big annual international technology trade show Computex to open for in-person participation May 24-27 in Taipei after two years of … [Read more...] about Taiwan Covid Cases Hit A Daily Record 68,732; Computex Tech Fair Affirms In-Person Return

May 14, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

New C-Class Mercedes-Benz, the country’s largest maker of luxury cars by volume, recently launched its entry-level premium sedan the C-class at a price that’s higher than ever before, but the Stuttgart-based auto major doesn’t see that as a barrier to pushing sales and driving volumes. Instead, its executives say that its product portfolio, which it claims is the widest in the category, combined with its transparent pricing mechanism, is future-proofing its business model, and prepping it for even higher sales. Mercedes-Benz India reported sales of 11,242 cars and SUVs in 2021, cementing it at the top of the luxury segment for the seventh year running and giving it a market share of around 41 percent. For Q1 this year, the company says it has already sold around 4,022 units. In terms of its range of products, Mercedes claims the largest selection in the Indian market. “We have the broadest portfolio of any manufacturer in India,” Martin Schwenk, Mercedes-Benz India’s CEO, … [Read more...] about Mercedes-Benz tackles tough market with wide portfolio, transparent pricing

Dissection by TikTok: Johnny Depp, Amber Heard trial posts are making accidental influencers out of some, targets out of others

May 15, 2022 by edition.cnn.com

(CNN) TikTok posts about actor Johnny Depp's defamation trial against his ex-wife, actress Amber Heard, have turned a stay-at-home mom based in Scotland into an accidental influencer. Or, perhaps more aptly, a DeppTok influencer. Sophie Doggett, whose TikTok was previously populated by videos on everyday things such as herself or her pets, posted to her TikTok account on April 25 a clip of Heard's lawyer asking a question of a witness and then immediately objecting to the response. It is one of many moments in the trial that has been seized upon by people like Doggett, as clips of testimony and references to the case have pervaded TikTok in a way that no trial has before. That's partly because the proceeding, set to resume Monday, is being livestreamed during the age of TikTok, and also because of the high-profile celebrities the case involves. Doggett, who paired the clip to playful music, said she gained 30,000 followers seemingly overnight from the post which has, to date, … [Read more...] about Dissection by TikTok: Johnny Depp, Amber Heard trial posts are making accidental influencers out of some, targets out of others

Crypto’s Richest Lost Nearly $60 Billion In Recent Weeks In Massive Crypto Collapse

May 14, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Fortunes rise and fall in the volatile world of cryptocurrency, but over the last few weeks, they’ve only moved in one direction—down. The total value of all outstanding cryptocurrency tokens is down over 26%, and Bitcoin is down 25% since March 11, when Forbes counted 19 crypto billionaires . Now, just 16 are billionaires, Forbes estimates. For moguls whose net worths are hitched to token prices and publicly traded stocks of crypto firms, it’s been a difficult few weeks. Eleven of the industry’s wealthiest individuals have collectively lost nearly $60 billion, Forbes calculates, as the plunge in crypto erased nearly $400 billion in market value. One person accounted for the vast majority of that loss. Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) was the industry’s wealthiest person in March with an eye-popping $65 billion fortune. (Binance previously announced it plans to invest in Forbes through a special purpose … [Read more...] about Crypto’s Richest Lost Nearly $60 Billion In Recent Weeks In Massive Crypto Collapse

Languedoc In Southern France: Quality Wines Minus The Prestige Means Great Value

May 15, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The price of a wine is, to some extent, determined by supply and demand. But supply can be plentiful, and the prices still soar. I don’t have a problem with expensive wines. They are easy to avoid. The challenge for a wine lover lies in finding exceptional wines at a reasonable cost, wines where prestige plays a minor role and it’s all about great flavour and character. There are many of these wines around. But they are harder to find than the super-expensive ones. At the extensive wine fair Wine Paris in February, we met four of our favourites from the Languedoc region in southern France. These four producers are exceptional value for money. Domaine du Nouveau Monde, Languedoc Domaine L’Arbuselle, Faugères Domaine Rouanet Montcelebre, Minervois Domaine des Terres Georges, Minervois (All prices mentioned in the text are for purchases at the estates.) Is The Future Of Supercars Electric?

April 23, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Supercars, and their even more extreme hypercar successors, are the pinnacle of what internal combustion can deliver. Vehicles like the Bugatti Veyron and Chiron, as well as competitors from Swedish Koenigsegg and American SSC, have traded blows over the last couple of decades as the fastest production cars in the world. But they are being eclipsed by a new genre of supercars: electric ones. The Lamborghini Miura is often cited as the first supercar, and it still stands up today as one of the most beautiful vehicles ever made. Perhaps the Jaguar XK120 from 1949 or the Mercedes 300SL Gullwing of 1955 deserve to be considered the first supercars instead. Either way, these are exotic vehicles, intended to combine design excellence with extreme performance. Successors in this genre include the Lamborghini Countach, Porsche 959, Ferrari F40 and McLaren F1. All held the position of “fastest production car in the world”, until the … [Read more...] about Is The Future Of Supercars Electric?
