Larry Ellison’s Latest Ambition: Create A National Healthcare Database

June 26, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin One of the most profound problems in American healthcare (and perhaps globally) is the fragmented and siloed nature of healthcare data. This narrative is largely driven by the vast number of electronic health record (EHR) systems that are currently in use. These are the systems that contain a person’s medical data, history, and past treatment records. When a patient has a healthcare encounter, their information is accessed through an EHR system, so physicians can provide curated treatment per the patient’s history and background. The problem, however, arises from the fact that there are many different EHR and health IT systems, meaning that a patient’s records may not be accessible across different organizations. This poses a massive issue: if John Doe ends up in a hospital that is different from his native institution for any reason, unless that hospital happens to use the same exact record and information system, it would be … [Read more...] about Larry Ellison’s Latest Ambition: Create A National Healthcare Database

Prepare for scrutiny if you want to play the big boys’ game: Experts on RBI’s recent fintech crackdown

June 27, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

Representative Image A two-paragraph notification from the RBI on June 20, which clarified that loading prepaid payment instruments (PPIs) such as wallets and prepaid cards with credit lines was not permissible, left the entire fintech ecosystem concerned about the legality of many current business models. In a panel discussion by Moneycontrol, fintech founders and experts said that companies would have to build business models within these regulations if they are to thrive in the fintech space. Srinath Sridharan, a member of the Fintech Association for Consumer Empowerment, said that the move by the RBI shouldn’t be viewed as negative towards fintech startups. Earlier, MoneyControl had reported that fintech startup founders had not taken kindly to the notification issued by the RBI. Being a part of a regulated space, fintech startups would have to build business models around the rules, Sridharan said. “If you want to play the big boy game, be ready for fit and … [Read more...] about Prepare for scrutiny if you want to play the big boys’ game: Experts on RBI’s recent fintech crackdown

Payments council urges RBI to treat full KYC prepaid instruments like bank accounts

June 26, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

Representative Image The Payments Council of India (PCI), the apex body of payments and settlement players in the country, has written to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) requesting the regulator to treat Prepaid Payment Instruments (PPIs) with full Know Your Customer (KYC) done as equal to bank accounts. Moneycontrol could gain access to the representation which was sent to the RBI. The second ask in the letter was to allow non-revolving credit lines in full-KYC PPIs like wallets and prepaid cards. Non-revolving credit line means that the credit line is non-replenishable unless the customer is underwritten again for a new loan. "This will allow that a loan (given by a regulated lender) can be disbursed by the lender into a Full KYC PPI account," PCI noted in the letter. Plus, no minimum due should be associated with repayment and the customer should have a clear repayment schedule. Close The letter also argued that there are multiple use cases today where … [Read more...] about Payments council urges RBI to treat full KYC prepaid instruments like bank accounts

Making Your Own Programmable Hardware Devices Just Got A Little Easier

May 19, 2014 by www.fastcompany.com

LittleBits , a Lego-like series of modules that allows anyone to build electronic devices, has been getting increasingly sophisticated since its launch in 2008. This month, the company announced that it’s getting what may be its most complex module yet: the Arduino at Heart, which allows lets users incorporate the popular open-source electronics platform into everything they create with littlebits. advertisement “This is our first programmable bit. It’s the first bit that takes care of the hardware and makes it easy to get started. You can be a novice or professional programmer,” explains littleBits Founder and CEO Ayah Bdeir . She writes in a blog post: With the littleBits Arduino at Heart module, we removed the problems of hardware, so users can focus onthe code. For example, instead of having to solder together a circuit of power, ground, resistors and LEDs, a user can simply snap a littleBits power and LED module to the Arduino module and dive straight … [Read more...] about Making Your Own Programmable Hardware Devices Just Got A Little Easier
