(AP Photo/R Brent Smith) INDIANAPOLIS — The day before the Indianapolis 500 dawned sunny, bright and otherwise perfect. If only it were race day. The forecast for Sunday calls for an 80 to 90 percent chance of rain, with thunderstorms expected throughout the day. That means a lot of uncomfortable waiting for IndyCar drivers and teams, track and series officials, broadcast partner NBC and about 250,000 fans. “I would just tell everyone to remember: This is Indiana,” Indianapolis Motor Speedway President Doug Boles said Saturday, alluding to the … [Read more...] about Rain threatens Indianapolis 500
Indy forecast weekend
By Jenna Fryer Published 4:27 pm PDT, Friday, May 24, 2019 INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis 500 was once considered one of the top sporting events of the year, an iconic, milk-drenched staple of Memorial Day weekend filled with patriotism and nostalgia, triumph and disappointment. It is nearly impossible to maintain reverential status for 103 years, and the Indy 500, like almost everything in sports, has had its declines. With forecasts projecting a 70% chance of thunderstorms and showers there are worries Sunday's race could be added to the list of washouts and run on what is the United States Memorial Day holiday on Monday. IMS president Doug Boles conceded rain was on his radar but for the moment the green flag would drop as scheduled at 12:45 ET (1645 GMT). "Instead of speculating, we don't know what it is going to be like, I'd rather just wait until Sunday when we see the conditions," Boles told a media briefing. "Obviously, if it is raining we are not going … [Read more...] about Rain threatens Indy 500 party
