February 13, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin If you are single and feeling kind of alone before Valentine’s Day, this may make you go, “Oh, Pew.” Results from a Pew Research Center survey of 6,034 U.S. adults conducted from July 5 t0 17, 2022, show that you are definitely not alone. That survey found 30% of the U.S. adults surveyed to be single, which was defined as not being married, not living with a partner, and not being in a committed romantic relationship. This percentage was higher (47%) among adults under 30 years of age, lower (21%) among the 30- to 49-year-olds, and at 30% for those 50 years and older. Not to single out men, but if you are male, single, and under 50 years of age, you may be in even greater company compared to women, at least in terms of numbers. Among those 18 to 29 years of age, 63% of men versus 34% of women considered themselves single. This dropped to 25% of men and 17% of women for those 30 to 49 years of age. Things flipped after the … [Read more...] about 57% Of Single Adults In U.S. Not Looking To Date, Survey Says

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Green is at the top of the list of hot colors for 2023, and it’s showing up in a variety of places—from pen and watch collections, to fashion and home décor. Here are a few well-known brands that have taken the trend to heart. Pelikan Special Edition Souverän 800 Green Demonstrator This Special Edition Souverän 800 Green Demonstrator may look familiar to long-time pen aficionados at first glance, since a similar green Pelikan Demonstrator was introduced in 1992. But there are a couple of important design updates featured her—like the modernized cap ring and turning knob for the piston-filling system. The body of the pen is a springtime grass green that is vibrant and energizing, and the transparent cap and barrel—the very definition of a demonstrator pen—allow a great view of the inner workings of the pen, as well as the status of its ink supply. The metal components, as well as the traditional Pelikan beak-like … [Read more...] about Spring Greens: Pelikan, Oris And Girard-Perregaux

Bitcoin ‘Maximalist’ Saylor Makes Crypto His Only Job

August 8, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Michael Saylor’s new job looks a lot like his old job: adding bitcoin to the balance sheet of his business-software company with religious fervor. “I'm a bitcoin maximalist, I happen to believe that bitcoin is an instrument of economic empowerment, it'll be beneficial to eight billion people,” Saylor told Forbes in an interview. “I also happen to believe that bitcoin is unique,” he continues, because of “the Immaculate Conception, decentralization, and its commodity status. All of these things make it the superior asset in the space.” The Immaculate Conception he means is the founding of bitcoin, as explained in a 2008 white paper by one or more people using the name Satoshi Nakamoto. Saylor stated that bitcoin is the only crypto asset which is truly decentralized and without an issuer. He backs bitcoin as a corporate investment in part because he believes there is regulatory agreement among U.S. regulators that bitcoin … [Read more...] about Bitcoin ‘Maximalist’ Saylor Makes Crypto His Only Job

MicroStrategy Sticks With Long-Term Bitcoin Strategy But Uses Short-Term Sale For Tax Benefit

January 5, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin MicroStrategy MSTR , the business-software company that has a thing for bitcoin still loves the cryptocurrency even though it sold some for tax purposes last month, employing a tactic that could help other long-term fans ease the pain from the asset’s months-long slide. As part of a flurry of late-year transactions, MicroStrategy sold about 704 bitcoins at an average price of $16,776 on December 22, the first time the company had divested any holdings of the leading cryptocurrency. But that followed purchases of about 2,395 tokens for about $17,871 each from November 1-December 21. The company said in an SEC filing that it planned to use losses generated by the sale to diminish previous capital gains, which could result in tax benefits. It also said it turned around and bought 810 bitcoins on December 22 at about $16,485 each, meaning MicroStrategy had a net increase of about 2,501 in its bitcoin hoard since the … [Read more...] about MicroStrategy Sticks With Long-Term Bitcoin Strategy But Uses Short-Term Sale For Tax Benefit

"Then they don't need to know." If Kranz was in IT security, he'd probably have a thing or two to say about actionable information and how there's sometimes too little and many times far too much. A Quantum Leap In Timing

March 27, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Paul is President of Quantum Computing at ColdQuanta , where he leads the team building the world’s most useful quantum computer. So much of modern life relies on GPS that it has been estimated that an outage would cost the U.S. economy over $1 billion per day. Such an outage isn’t too far-fetched. We have seen recent examples of GPS being blocked in conflict zones, spoofed for nefarious purposes and disrupted by solar storms. At its heart, GPS is a timing system. To understand how timing relates to navigation, and how quantum technology will enable us to overcome the limitations of GPS, we need to go back in history a few hundred years. Dava Sobel’s book Longitude recounts the tale of John Harrison’s mechanical clock that revolutionized maritime navigation and global trade. In the same way that Harrison’s clock accelerated economic growth through the 18th and 19th centuries, optical clocks are … [Read more...] about A Quantum Leap In Timing

Does It Make Sense To Delay Motherhood For Your Career?

March 27, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin One major consideration for women, specifically women who want a family, is how motherhood will impact their careers. And one question these women often ask themselves is whether it makes sense to delay motherhood in order to realize their full potential. Motherhood penalizes professional women in several ways. Not only does it negatively affect their income and leadership status, it also influences their ability to get promoted and hired. They are often overlooked when it comes to career-advancing opportunities. A recent survey of 1,000 U.S. women who chose to delay motherhood after the age of 35 by WIN , a leading family-building benefits provider, revealed motivating factors, challenges, and benefits to women’s decisions and how fertility benefits factor into the journey. According to the survey, relationships, lifestyle, and finances were major considerations that impacted women’s decisions.
