Representative image Southwest monsoon has arrived in Mumbai and nearby areas while Delhi may continue to suffer from heatwave conditions for the next few days, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a tweet. ''Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into remaining parts of central Arabian Sea, most parts of Konkan (including Mumbai), some parts of Madhya Maharashtra, some more parts of Karnataka today, the 11th June, 2022,'' IMD said in a statement. According to the IMD , the maximum temperature in Delhi-NCR and other parts of northwest India will come down by a few notches over the weekend but no major relief is likely till June 15. The heat wave conditions are likely to continue in isolated pockets over Northwest, Central and the adjoining East India during the next two days, said the weather office. (Image: AP) Heatwave conditions have abated in all parts of the country, with the southwest monsoon progressing towards central and east India and a fresh Western Disturbance affecting the northwest region, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday. Northwest India was reeling under a heatwave spell since June 2 and central India since June 10 due to an onslaught of hot and dry westerly winds. A heatwave spell that started on June 3 prevailed over isolated pockets of Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, north Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, southeast Uttar Pradesh, north Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra's Vidarbha region till June 12. Monsoon Update on June 15: Cherrapunji logs whopping 811.6 mm of rainfall in a day, highest in June in 27 years

(Representative Image) As monsoon rain pummelled the northeast, Cherrapunji in Meghalaya recorded a massive 811.6 mm of rainfall in 24 hours ending 8:30 am on June 15, the highest in the month since 1995, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. One of the wettest places in the world, Cherrapunji has recorded more than 750 mm of precipitation on a June day on 10 occasions since the IMD started keeping records, the IMD data showed. On June 16, 1995, the town nestled in the East Khasi Hills gauged 1563.3 mm of rainfall. A day before, on June 15, 1995, it received 930 mm of precipitation. The Met office said the southwest monsoon further advanced into more parts of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and coastal Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday. It said the ongoing spell of intense rainfall is likely to continue in the northeast and sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during the next five days. Monsoon Update on June 1 | Thunder, strong winds in forecast for Delhi, delayed rain for Maharashtra

Representative image Delhi may see thunderstorms with wind gushing at a speed of up to 30 kmph on June 1 and the maximum temperature is predicted to settle around 40 degrees Celsius, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. An east-west trough is running from Haryana to Bangladesh at lower tropospheric levels. Under its influence, parts of Punjab, Haryana, west Uttar Pradesh, east Rajasthan and Uttarakhand may witness scattered light rainfall, the weather office said. Some parts of Delhi may also see thunder activity on Wednesday which will keep the temperature in check, said Mahesh Palawat, Vice-President (climate change and meteorology), Skymet Weather.
