Future of co-living in India after COVID-19: 3 crucial factors

April 5, 2021 by www.moneycontrol.com

The plights of the traditional unorganised and informal co-living sector are plenty Mark Twain once famously said: “Buy land, they’re not making it anymore.” Real estate is one of our most scarce resources. As per IBEF’s Real Estate Report (November 2020), the real estate sector in India is expected to reach US $ 1 trillion by 2030. By 2025, it will contribute 13 percent to the country’s GDP. The residential segment contributes nearly 80 percent of the real estate sector and the demand concentrated in metro cities constantly outmatches supply since India’s urban housing pyramid is a skewed one with the largest proportion of the population being under-served due to issues of affordability. The metro cities in India have witnessed rapid growth in-migration, which has put considerable pressure on the existing rental housing set-up which itself was not historically designed in order to cater to the demand. With more millennials entering the workforce and contributing towards a … [Read more...] about Future of co-living in India after COVID-19: 3 crucial factors

Web3 gaming could provide better monetisation opportunities, say top Indian gaming founders

May 6, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

(Image Source: Shutterstock) Web3 gaming could provide potentially better monetisation opportunities for game developers in India, the country's top gaming founders said in a panel discussion on May 5. Web3 is dubbed to be the next iteration of the Internet, which will be decentralised and run on blockchain. "Monetisation on games has been a challenge in the India market, even in a freemium model, except for a few top grossing games. The in-app purchase (IAP) conversions has been low and eCPMs (effective cost per thousand impressions) have been fairly low. I think web3 is providing a completely different set of monetization opportunities with potentially higher ARPU (average revenue per user)" said Nazara Technologies founder Nitish Mittersain in the panel discussion held at IGDC Blockchain Gaming Summit in Bengaluru. Apart from Mittersain, the panel consisted of Mobile Premier League co-founder Sai Srinivas and JetSynthesys founder Rajan Navani. It was moderated by … [Read more...] about Web3 gaming could provide better monetisation opportunities, say top Indian gaming founders

May 15, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

Trade Watchlist Portfolio Message Set Alert live bse live nse live Volume Todays L/H More × The primary market will be buzzing in the coming week due to multiple IPO launches and a mega listing, though too much volatility in the secondary market amid global growth concerns and inflation worries after the Ukraine war seem to have impacted grey market premiums of each one. Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) is set to make its much awaited market debut on Tuesday, May 17. This would be the ninth listing on the BSE and NSE in the current calendar year. The grey market premium clearly indicated that the country's largest life insurance company is expected to see either flat or negative listing compared to issue price of Rs 949, but experts say given the retail investors, employees and policyholders received shares at a major discount, this is still expected to be a premium … [Read more...] about Primary Market Action | Grand LIC listing, 3 IPO launches next week

More than 260 stocks hit 52-week low, 450 stocks hit lower circuit today

May 11, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

The downward trend continued on Dalal Street for the fourth consecutive session on May 11. More than 260 stocks on the BSE hit 52-week low and the number of stocks at lower circuit were significantly higher than the stocks that hit upper circuit. Endless Ukraine-Russia war igniting inflation concerns and growth worries, faster policy tightening approach adopted by several central banks, including Federal Reserve, the beginning of rate hike cycle in India, consistent FII selling, rupee depreciation, and inflation concerns visible in corporate earnings are some of the reasons for the nervousness among the investors. The BSE Sensex fell below 54,000-mark in the morning but later pared losses to trade 276 points lower at 54,088. Meanwhile, the Nifty50 briefly traded below the psychological 16,000-mark but recouped some of losses to trade at 16,167, down 73 points. The benchmark indices have now fallen more than 10 percent each from the closing high of April 4. Meanwhile, the BSE … [Read more...] about More than 260 stocks hit 52-week low, 450 stocks hit lower circuit today

“I wrote the book for my grandmother and Shah Rukh Khan as my target readers”: World Bank economist Shrayana Bhattacharya

May 8, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

Actor Shah Rukh Khan (SRK). Initially, talking about movies served as an ice-breaker. Then, Bhattacharya found that talking about SRK's songs and films with his fans also "allowed us to delve into the trickier terrain of discussing men, money and misogyny". World Bank economist Shrayana Bhattacharya met Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan at his home in Mumbai on April 24, 2022. Her book Desperately Seeking Shah Rukh: India’s Lonely Young Women and the Search for Intimacy and Independence (HarperCollins, 2021) had released late last year, and she had wanted to place a copy in Shah Rukh's personal library. "The book has finally reached its intended destination: his library at Mannat," Bhattacharya posted on Instagram a day later. In the book, Bhattacharya uses stories to paint a series of portraits about “the female gaze” in post-liberalization India. In an email interview, she talked about fandom as an economic activity, how she conducted the interviews and writing seven … [Read more...] about “I wrote the book for my grandmother and Shah Rukh Khan as my target readers”: World Bank economist Shrayana Bhattacharya

‘Writing nonbinary characters should become less awkward for writers’: S.B. Divya

May 8, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

'Machinehood' is set in 2095. (Representational image) It’s 2095. We’ve entered an age where we’ve achieved seamless integration of artificial intelligences (AIs) with human lives. It’s not only impossible but also foolish to do anything without them. AI-based bots are our personal agents. The news comes with an accuracy rating and there are pills to keep us heal quickly. The pandemic years are a reality of the past. Everything is great until Machinehood – a terrorist group that thinks they’re fighting for an equitable and dignified life for all forms of intelligences (humans, animals, and, yes, even AIs!) – strikes. They’ve given a one-week ultimatum to the human species to apply their “Machinehood Manifesto”. This unsettles the whole world. However, in particular, Machinehood has wreaked havoc in the life Welga Ramirez, whose job is to guard and protect pills manufacturers. This, in nutshell, is the believable yet fascinating world of S.B. Divya’s Machinehood … [Read more...] about ‘Writing nonbinary characters should become less awkward for writers’: S.B. Divya
