Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin While working at Oscar Health, Gaurang Choksi realized a disconnect when it came to the inclusive care that diverse patients needed. He remembers that clients would come in looking for a health care clinician that represented them, but that wasn’t a possibility. Meanwhile, those patients would sometimes have difficulty connecting with doctors from other backgrounds, because their needs weren’t fully understood. This is the experience that led him to found Violet, a digital platform that allows clinicians to take courses to become skilled in diversity, equity and inclusion. On Monday, the company announced that it has raised $5.3M in seed funding. The seed round was led by SemperVirens Northwell Holdings, the venture arm of Northwell Health, The Venture Collective, Hopelab and Naomi Allen (founder and CEO of digital health company Brightline.) “Historically before Violet, what everybody would do is say, ‘what communities … [Read more...] about This Startup Just Raised $5.3 Million To Make Healthcare More Inclusive

‘Meeting Doomsday’ And ‘Calendar Bankruptcy’: How Leaders Are Battling Meeting Overload
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin I t was the return of business travel that tipped Stephanie Dismore’s calendar over the edge. Earlier this year, as the HP senior executive juggled running to airport gates with a schedule still filled with pandemic-era Zoom calls, Dismore sat down with her assistant and did an audit of her meetings. Some were delegated. Meetings set up simply to share information were canceled, with a request sent for a slide deck. The rest were given a hard look and had to pass a test to stay on her calendar. “I tell my team ‘no objective, no attendance,’ ” says Dismore, HP’s managing director of North America. If there’s not a clear goal, she says, “I just decline the meeting. If it’s important, it’ll get back on my calendar with an objective at some point.” Not everyone has the authority—or the executive assistant—to go through that sort of exercise in calendar hygiene. But after more than two years of remote work-fueled meeting … [Read more...] about ‘Meeting Doomsday’ And ‘Calendar Bankruptcy’: How Leaders Are Battling Meeting Overload

A Year Ago, Chipotle Hired Taco Bell’s CEO. Now Chipotle Is Crushing It
The year was 2017, and Chipotle Mexican Grill was in dire straits. A series of food-borne illness outbreaks, including E. coli and norovirus, had scared away customers. A culture of fear permeated the company. On top of this, Chipotle was forced to announce a data breach that potentially exposed hundreds of thousands of customers' credit card information. In the meantime, Taco Bell, Chipotle's chief competitor, was thriving--partially due to the effective leadership of its CEO at the time, Brian Niccol. Many saw Niccol as the driving force behind Taco Bell, a company that had suffered its own PR nightmares through the years. Additionally, Niccol, who served as Taco Bell's marketing and innovation chief (and then president) before taking over as CEO, oversaw the launch of a popular mobile app and several new items to the core menu. These moves helped establish the company's solid relationship with younger customers. Chipotle wanted to turn things around too. So, … [Read more...] about A Year Ago, Chipotle Hired Taco Bell’s CEO.
