Dear readers: I just sent this note to our editorial team, and I thought you might want to see it too. Team! Last week, I went to the big tech and gadget convention in Las Vegas called CES. I got an excellent tour of the show from Business Insider deputy executive editor Cadie Thompson. The most fascinating thing Cadie showed me were the self-driving cars – their interiors, actually. They looked like little living rooms – places to sit and stare at your phone or watch a show on a huge screen built into the dashboard. It made me realise we’re only going to get even more screen time. If not because of self-driving cars, then because of the rise of 5G and increased connectivity. Accounting firm Baker Tilly Virchow Krause is acquiring two companies, including St. Paul-based Springsted Inc., to build one of the largest municipal finance advisory firms in the United States. Baker Tilly is a Chicago-based network of accounting firms with 45 offices in North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Australia and more than 3,000 employees. Its Minneapolis office employs 240 people. The firm plans to combine its existing public-service practice with those of Springsted and H.J. Umbaugh and Associates, an Indianapolis firm that Baker Tilly also is acquiring. Terms of the deals were not disclosed. MANILA - The third telecommunications player Mislatel is open to partnerships even with its competitors Globe Telecom and PLDT Inc, its spokesperson said Wednesday. Such deals will not reduce competition but will instead boost the revenues of existing telcos, Mislatel's spokesperson Atty. Adel Tamano told DZMM radio. Partnerships could be in the form of sharing cell sites and domestic roaming, or the use of a partner's network when its own network is not yet available, he said.
