While traditionally separated by floors and organizational structures, human resources (HR) and information technology (IT) are now playing a more critical role in each other’s daily operations, especially in the digital era of business. Hiring new employees and managing existing workforces based on the demand for skills is increasingly a coordinated effort between the two departments. The HR department now relies on advanced resource management solutions to better manage hiring and reskilling programs, while the IT department collaborates with HR teams to implement solutions that enhance employee experience. This has reemphasized the need for HR and IT teams to be more aligned than ever before. Data silos have existed, but can that continue? HR and IT departments have arguably been two of the most collaborative departments in any … [Read more...] about The Connected Employee Experience Requires HR And IT To Be More Aligned Than Ever

Forget Job Titles: 7 Reasons To Take A Skills-Based Approach To Hiring Talent
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin By Meredith Bryan Scan any resume, and take note of what pops: job titles, company names, college degrees. But in today’s competitive labor market, businesses need workers with the right skills to do the job, not workers who’ve negotiated prestige titles that can mean different things at different organizations. Out-of-date job titles and requirements only serve to limit applicant pools in a moment when hiring managers are striving to attract and retain diverse, high-quality talent. Instead, recent research shows that a candidate’s skills are 5x more predictive of their job performance than hiring for education. “The future of work is all based on skills,” says Joseph Hanna, chief product officer at Magnit, a leading integrated workforce management platform. Innovative companies like Magnit are leveraging data and new technologies to facilitate this broader shift toward skills-based hiring, which will … [Read more...] about Forget Job Titles: 7 Reasons To Take A Skills-Based Approach To Hiring Talent

NRRP: The Italian National Recovery And Resilience Plan
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin In the pompous language that so distinguishes all acts of public administration in Italy, this is the name given to the special Plan that, thanks to a generous injection of European funds, should heal the wounds caused by Covid and, above all, allow Italy to relaunch and definitively modernize. The Plan is an ambitious one, the resources are huge (235 billion combining European funds and Italian contributions), the opportunity is unique. Its declared aim, to be achieved through a series of interventions including public works, regulatory adjustments, and so on, amounts to three “transversal priorities”: equality of gender, of territory and of generation. In other words, aside from the pomposity of the language, the intent is principally to reduce the economic and social gap between the North and South of the country in order to favor the entry of women and younger people in the job market. The voluminous NRRP document also … [Read more...] about NRRP: The Italian National Recovery And Resilience Plan
How Starbucks’ New CEO Is Trying To Brew Employee Trust
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin When Starbucks’ incoming CEO, Laxman Narasimhan, joined the company last October, he made an interesting (but very deliberate) choice about where to spend his time. Narasimhan donned one of the company’s signature green aprons and proceeded to attend 40 hours of training to become a certified Starbucks barista. When he officially took over the reins as CEO in March, Narasimhan indicated that he’d continue to serve as a barista for four hours a month, each time in a different Starbucks location. (He also pointedly noted that he expected his senior executives to do the same.) How and where a new CEO (or any leader, for that matter) spends their time says a lot about their priorities. You’ll typically find new, public company CEOs visiting with institutional investors, meeting with Wall Street analysts, huddling with the Board of Directors, etc. But attending a full week of frontline staff training? That’s generally not on … [Read more...] about How Starbucks’ New CEO Is Trying To Brew Employee Trust
Activists Push, But Europe Hesitates To Call Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Terrorists
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin In late February, British-Iranian human rights activist Vahid Beheshti set up camp opposite the entrance to the Foreign Office in central London and began a hunger strike. He had one main demand: that the UK government designated Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corp as a terrorist group. More than a month later, he is still there, having lost around 11 kilos. “Sometimes I get cold. Sometimes I get weak and sometimes I think I have energy. Then the next hour it drains out again,” he said on March 24, on the 30th day of his hunger strike. “Physically [I’m] getting weaker but internally [I’m] getting stronger and I'm determined to continue until we achieve this great goal.” His aim is a policy that, until recently, seemed to be high up the agenda of the London government. At the start of the year, the UK seemed to be on the verge of proscribing the IRGC. Government minister Leo Docherty told the House of Commons on … [Read more...] about Activists Push, But Europe Hesitates To Call Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Terrorists
The Earthquake In Syria And Türkiye: How IOM And Its Partners Are Delivering Urgent Relief To Millions
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin At a time when deadly global events like earthquakes, flooding, and hurricanes are on the rise we need solidarity in the international community to ensure that aid reaches those who are most vulnerable. Unfortunately we have a shortfall in global solidarity that needs strong leadership to overcome. Some organizations are standing up and setting an example for others to follow. Thousands of buildings have been reduced to rubble. Hospitals - if they are still standing - are overwhelmed; food and water are scarce.
