The markets are yet to find their trough, and real interest rates in the US (down 700bps from pre-pandemic levels) are likely to outgrow the hike in India (down only 300bps from pre-pandemic levels). This is likely to accelerate capital outflows and form a vicious cycle impacting the currency, inflation, real yields and causing further capital drain, believes IIFL Securities Chairman R Venkataraman. At an interview with Moneycontrol , he says that that markets are some way off from the bottom and there could be another 15 percent correction from here. "We suggest Cipla , SBI Life , HUL , ITC , Ashok Leyland , Persistent Systems , Deepak Nitrite , ICICI Bank as our top picks after a severe correction," Venkataraman shares. Excerpts from the interview: What is the message you get from the central banks that continued rate hikes and hinted more hikes to control inflation? Central banks worldwide were clearly taken by surprise at the violent inflationary … [Read more...] about Daily Voice | More capital drain on cards, expect 15% more correction, says R Venkataraman of IIFL Securities

SEC Proposes Expanded Regulation of Securities Dealers
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) released, on March 28, 2022, new proposed rules aimed at making more entities subject to registration and regulation as securities dealers . In support of the proposal, SEC Gary Gensler stated: "[R]equiring all firms that regularly make markets , or otherwise perform important liquidity -providing roles, to register as dealers or government securities dealers also could help level the playing field among firms and enhance the resiliency of our markets." In a statement, SEC Commissioner Hester M. Peirce noted: "Drawing the line between dealers and other active participants in our markets has long been challenging, and those challenges have only increased as our markets have evolved over the decades ... While I have deep reservations about the breadth of today's proposal, it addresses some important issues on which public comment will be valuable." She believes that clarifying the scope of the term "dealer" is important but is … [Read more...] about SEC Proposes Expanded Regulation of Securities Dealers
How Dropbox Spawned A Cottage Security Industry
If you run a small business or work in an enterprise setting, you know the routine for sharing files. Depending on your organization, you use Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, iCloud, or seemingly millions of other competitors. The need to share information and collaborate on projects means that cloud storage platforms are everywhere… and it has spurred its own sub-industries. One of these is the demand for security services for cloud file sharing. advertisement advertisement Let’s say it: Security at Dropbox, Box, and Google Drive is excellent, surely, but it isn’t perfect. It’s commonplace (and smart) for organizations to share sensitive documents via VPN or thumb drives when corporate competitors and other snoops lurk. But many employees don’t always follow company policy or even the law; as I discovered at Fast Company last year, many doctors use Dropbox to store patient health information even though the federal government prohibits it. Other times, … [Read more...] about How Dropbox Spawned A Cottage Security Industry

Asean defense ministers discuss security proposals
Asean defense ministers pose for a group photo ahead of the Asean Defense Ministers’ Meeting on July 11, 2019, in Bangkok, Thailand. AP BANGKOK — Defense ministers from the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) have met in the Thai capital to discuss issues including border controls, terrorism and illegal fishing. Asean members have varying priorities, so the ministers focus on approaches to problem solving rather than tackling potentially divisive substantive issues. Their agreements touched only indirectly on such critical issues as territorial disputes in the South China Sea, where Vietnam and the Philippines face aggressive claims by China. The attendees agreed Thursday to study a Philippine proposal for guidelines on maritime conflict management. They also agreed to look at proposals for a hotline to major powers in times of crisis, as well as border management, counterterrorism and raising awareness on the security implications of illegal, unreported … [Read more...] about Asean defense ministers discuss security proposals
Freedom Vs. Security In Business: How Leaders Can Strike A Balance
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin CEO and Co-Founder of OpenVPN Inc. , leading-edge networking and software technology with over 60 million downloads since inception. How much freedom are you willing to sacrifice for the sake of safety and security? And how much safety are you willing to risk to retain your personal freedom? At the end of the day, businesses must make a choice. It’s a question we’ve been asking ourselves for centuries, in one form or another. But in today’s digital age, when employees can be located anywhere on the map, it’s more critical than ever to really ask ourselves where that line should be drawn. The reality is that companies can’t have both — not to the extent we would like. There must be a balance, certainly. In fact, I would argue that anyone who values one over the other too intensely should be met with a fair degree of skepticism. I find that a focus entirely on security can often cover an underlying … [Read more...] about Freedom Vs. Security In Business: How Leaders Can Strike A Balance
Tax body issues guidelines for securing websites, procuring IT services
Representative image. Days after several websites were hacked by foreign “hacktivists” to protest comments made against Prophet Mohammad, a government body responsible for financial regulations has come out with a list of cybersecurity norms to wall up against such attacks. The advisory dated June 13 also said the design of websites should be along the guidelines drawn by NIC for Indian Government Websites (GIGW). “Website and data security is of paramount concern in the present times in view of increasing security threats.
