New ventures drive growth for LG Energy Solution

March 23, 2023 by koreajoongangdaily.joins.com

KooRoo’s battery swapping station [LG ENERGY SOLUTION] LG Energy Solution is pushing ahead with its new businesses and focusing on future growth with in-house ventures KooRoo and AVEL, the battery manufacturing unit of LG Group said. KooRoo, established last year, is seeking to commercialize its battery swapping stations (BSS), which increase the convenience for users of electric motorbikes by allowing them to swap out a used battery for a fully-charged one rather than having to spend time charging the original battery. The service addresses a lot of the issues raised by electric vehicle users, including the long charge time, relatively short distance that can be traveled and high maintenance costs. “If the electric motorbike battery ecosystem grows, it will help delivery services, be eco-friendly, quiet and safe," said Ahn Hong-duk, head of KooRoo. “We are set to initiate developing exclusive BSS battery packs and stations and plan to build up the electric motorcycle … [Read more...] about New ventures drive growth for LG Energy Solution

March 23, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Monika Mueller is the EVP Consulting Services and Head of LATAM for Softensity , a U.S.-based IT outsourcing company with a global footprint. For the past several years, organizations across industries have been feeling the tech labor crunch. Demand for skilled labor was on a steady upward trajectory when the pandemic-driven tech boom turbocharged the trend and the talent gap grew even more pronounced. Amid the fierce competition for tech workers, salaries skyrocketed and IT professionals got more selective—while growing accustomed to ample perks and the flexibility of remote work. Cut to 2022, and a reported 140,000 jobs were slashed from public and private tech companies. The trend appears to be continuing into 2023. Barely into the year, more than 94,000 tech jobs have already been eliminated, according to Crunchbase. No corner of the industry appears to be untouched, as big players like Microsoft (down … [Read more...] about How Will Recent Tech Layoffs Affect The IT Labor Market?

Troubles Loom If Europeans Are Denied Cheap Electric Cars

March 23, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The electric car revolution in Europe requires a swift change of gear if it is to move from a well-heeled, early-adopters' niche to the mass market. European manufacturers still haven’t got the memo; small is beautiful. If this fails, the ramifications will be political as well as economic. Consumers will have to accept that electric cars, even expensive ones, have serious range limitations. Long trips with the family to southern Spain or Italy for the summer holidays using fast motorways are no problems for an internal combustion engine (ICE). But range anxiety from fast-but-legal motorway driving and poor charging facilities present big hurdles for electric vehicles. Given that 90% of motoring is never much more than 30 miles a day anyway, everyday use won't be much of a problem. You can always hire a diesel for those annual trips to the sun or weekend jaunts. Or take the train. Current electric technology produces, … [Read more...] about Troubles Loom If Europeans Are Denied Cheap Electric Cars

Fraud Section Report Helps Companies’ Counsel Navigating DOJ’s Seas

March 22, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin DOJ’s 2022 Year In Review Report released last month not only recounts its Fraud Section’s activity and “accomplishments” for the preceding year, but also allows practitioners and in-house counsel responsible for helping companies and their executives navigate the shoals of corporate compliance anticipate the government’s likely future focus. This year’s Report first suggests that in the upcoming years DOJ will continue to focus on individual accountability for corporate malfeasance particularly in the area of financial fraud and market manipulation. In fact, the Report was released at the same time that DOJ leadership was commending the Department’s convictions of individuals such as Elizabeth Holmes and Sunny Bulwani . Second, the Report also foreshadows an increase in independent compliance monitorships in corporate resolutions, a practice previously avoided under a Trump-era policy . Again, public comments, including … [Read more...] about Fraud Section Report Helps Companies’ Counsel Navigating DOJ’s Seas

Antisemitic Attacks Hit All-Time High In 2022, ADL Report Says

March 23, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline Reports of antisemitic incidents in the United States hit record levels in 2022, the Anti-Defamation League said in a report published Thursday, continuing a five-year upswing in antisemitism amid mounting fears the behavior of influential public figures like Donald Trump and Kanye West are normalizing hate. Key Facts The ADL recorded 3,697 antisemitic incidents across the U.S. in 2022, the highest annual total since the organization started tracking incidents in 1979. The figure marks a 36% increase from the year before—itself a record-setting year—and follows a broad uptick in hate towards the American Jewish community over the past five years, three of which recorded record levels of antisemitic incidents. The report said no single factor was responsible for the surge in hate and five states— New York (580), California (518), New Jersey (408), Florida (269) and Texas (211)—collectively accounted … [Read more...] about Antisemitic Attacks Hit All-Time High In 2022, ADL Report Says

Forget about goal setting. Try these 5 strategies instead

October 14, 2022 by www.fastcompany.com

Goal setting is one of those things that seems like it would be fundamental to success. If you’ve read any books or articles about getting ahead in your career or life, you’ve probably come across tips on setting goals (like SMART goal setting) so that you can successfully meet them. But setting goals may not be as relevant anymore, and there may be better alternatives to managing your career–and your life. Part of the reason goal setting may be becoming irrelevant is because of the speed of change and the volatility of the world. When everything is moving so fast and changing, the goals you set for yourself can become redundant. That said, it’s very powerful to imagine yourself succeeding in the future and focus on your preferred version of tomorrow. The key is to seek to be directionally accurate , knowing that things are constantly changing in a way you can’t always predict. Here are five effective ways to take charge of your career when you’re operating in … [Read more...] about Forget about goal setting. Try these 5 strategies instead

ICE Says Reports About Child Dying In Texas Facility Are False

August 1, 2018 by dailycaller.com

An immigration lawyer tweeted that a child allegedly died in a Texas Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility, but officials said those claims were false Wednesday. “There are reports that a child died in ICE custody in Dilley, Texas,” Houston immigration lawyer Mana Yegani tweeted Tuesday, according to Heavy. “Getting more information as the story develops. It’s unclear where the parent(s) of the child is. Some reports indicate that they maybe in New Jersey while child was in Texas.” Yegani updated the tweet a few hours later and claimed the child died. “Update: The child died following her stay at an ICE Detention Center, as a result of possible negligent care and a respiratory illness she contracted from one of the other children. The events took place in Dilley Family Detention Center in south Texas,” the second tweet said. ICE said the claims were false on Wednesday through Twitter.
