The funeral of veteran Hong Kong actor Kenneth Tsang was held on Tuesday (May 17) in a low-key manner after he was found dead in a quarantine hotel in Hong Kong on April 27. He was 87. According to the Hong Kong media, the actor's funeral was attended by his wife, actress Lisa Chiao Chiao; his daughter Musette Tsang from his second marriage with columnist Barbara Tang; Tang and her husband Franco Yuen. Also in attendance were Tsang's good friends such as veteran actor Bowie Wu and actress Helen Ma. Musette Tsang told the media previously that her half-brother, Kenneth Tsang's son from his first marriage to late actress Landi Chang, was based in Canada and would not be returning to Hong Kong to attend the funeral partly due to the territory's quarantine measures. The memorial ended at about 3pm on Tuesday, with Tsang's casket moved to a crematorium for cremation afterwards. Musette Tsang said the family have not decided where to place his ashes. North Korea reports more deaths, says taking ‘swift measures’ against Covid-19 outbreak
SEOUL, May 15 (Reuters): North Korea said on Sunday a total of 42 people had died as the country began its fourth day under a nationwide lockdown aimed at stopping the impoverished country's first confirmed Covid-19 outbreak. North Korea's admission on Thursday that it is battling an "explosive" Covid-19 outbreak has raised concerns that the virus could devastate a country with an under-resourced health system, limited testing capabilities and no vaccine programme. State news agency KCNA said the country was taking "swift state emergency measures" to control the epidemic, but there is no sign that Pyongyang was moving to accept international offers of vaccines. "All provinces, cities and counties of the country have been totally locked down and working units, production units and residential units closed from each other since the morning of May 12 and strict and intensive examination of all the people is being conducted," KCNA reported on Sunday. A day earlier North Korean … [Read more...] about North Korea reports more deaths, says taking ‘swift measures’ against Covid-19 outbreak
Delta Just Announced an Unprecedented Change, and It’s Hard to Believe No Airline Has Done this Before
Imagine showing up to work but not getting paid for the first half-hour you're there. You're still expected to work--in fact, imagine those first 30 minutes or so are the most stressful part of your job--you just don't get paid. You'd probably find a different job. Or you might be a flight attendant . If you're like me, you probably had no idea flight attendants don't get paid until the aircraft door closes. On an international flight, when you include the time for check-in and a briefing, flight attendants are expected to show up an hour and a half before a flight is expected to leave. None of that time is paid. All that time they spend helping people find their seats, cramming luggage in overhead compartments, and dealing with everything else that comes with getting 100 or so people on a long metal tube--none of it is paid. Well, until now. This week, Delta said it would start paying flight attendants 50 percent of their hourly rate for boarding time. It … [Read more...] about Delta Just Announced an Unprecedented Change, and It’s Hard to Believe No Airline Has Done this Before
Ciutadella: Menorca’s Curious Second City
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Along with Menorca’s capital Mahón, Ciutadella on the west coast is the Spanish island’s only other real city, and was itself the capital during the 18th-century British occupation. Still small today, Ciutadella is one of those Mediterranean towns made for wandering in which you might hardly see a soul spent in an afternoon along its narrow streets lined with honey-colored houses. While you can enter the lovely little open courtyard of the Bishop’s Residence, the 13th-century cathedral itself might well be closed, and folks are all long gone from the historic little cast-iron fish market. It’s a town of a few oddities—all good ones. In the main square, Es Born, stands a curious 72-foot-high obelisk erected in the 19th-century to commemorate a 16th-century Turkish raid that decimated the town. There, and all around, the festival of Sant Joan on June 23-24 is a celebration of the indigenous Menorcan horse. In what is a kind of … [Read more...] about Ciutadella: Menorca’s Curious Second City
Seniors are pushing back against ageism on TikTok
TikTok has a reputation for being the playground of young people – and for good reason. However, an increasing number of seniors are giving the Chinese social network a go, often encouraged by their children and grandchildren. And the trend is offering old age a new image. Technophobic, frail, cantankerous, senile... Age-related stereotypes are hard to eradicate. They can be particularly detrimental to women, for whom the fact of aging and seeing their body change remains a source of concern. But a surprising boost could come via TikTok and could help them see things differently, according to a study recently published in the journal The Gerontologist . Professor Reuben Ng and Nicole Indran found that older people are increasingly using TikTok, the preferred app of the younger generations. They analysed 1,382 videos posted by users of the social network aged 60 or older, with between 100,000 and 5.3 million followers. The seniors in the video all talk freely about their age in … [Read more...] about Seniors are pushing back against ageism on TikTok

Ibogaine: Busting Myths With Beond’s Dr. Felipe Malacara
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin You might be familiar with psilocybin mushrooms , ayahuasca , and MDMA , but a lesser known (and rather misunderstood) psychedelic substance, ibogaine , is gaining attention thanks to the proliferation of ibogaine treatment clinics south of the border. Ibogaine is derived from the root of the iboga shrub, which grows in Central Africa and is indigenous to Gabon. There, it is used among people who practice Bwiti, a spiritual discipline that has been passed down for hundreds if not thousands of years. In Bwiti traditions, iboga is used in initiation rites, and is thought to allow those who take it to meet with deceased ancestors and diagnose illness. When administered safely, ibogaine can have profound, life-altering effects. While people living in North America may not be as familiar with ibogaine as they are with other psychedelic drugs, those that do know about this powerful alkaloid tend to consider its … [Read more...] about Ibogaine: Busting Myths With Beond’s Dr. Felipe Malacara
Bitcoin Trailblazer Raises Capital To Create Interplanetary Cryptocurrency
LedgerX co-founder Paul Chou is building on the sale of the company he created by raising capital for a new kind of cryptocurrency that can be spent on Earth, the Moon, Mars and beyond. I t’s just before midnight on a rainy autumn Friday. Paul Chou and his entourage dodge puddles on the runway of the Teterboro Airport in New Jersey as they board a Gulfstream private jet bound for Las Vegas. The flight attendant cracks open a bottle of champagne and with a nod welcomes the passengers aboard. The girls disappear into the back and emerge minutes later wearing sequined cocktail dresses and feather boas. Sensing she’s in for a party, the attendant offers a round of tequila shots just as the inertia from the plane taking off to the Bellagio Hotel & Casino forces her laughing into her seat. Ostensibly, Chou, 38, is celebrating not only his birthday but the sale for an undisclosed amount of LedgerX, the ground-breaking bitcoin derivatives firm he co-founded with his wife in … [Read more...] about Bitcoin Trailblazer Raises Capital To Create Interplanetary Cryptocurrency
