Extreme sports operator ordered to cease operations in KKB

June 27, 2022 by www.thestar.com.my

KUALA KUBU BARU: An extreme sports activities operator here has been ordered to cease its services as it did not have approval from the relevant authorities. The Hulu Selangor Municipal Council (MPHS) conducted the joint operation on Rentas Adventures on June 24 with the Hulu Selangor Public Works Department (JKR) and the Hulu Selangor district police headquarters. In a statement, the MPHS said that the operation was carried out after the council received a complaint regarding the extreme sports activities that were still operating even though the operator did not seek permission from any relevant authorities. June 19, 2022 by www.forbes.com

One of them, Rob Walton, just led a family group to bid $4.65 billion for the Denver Broncos NFL team. Here are the other heirs that rank the highest on Forbes’ list. A shock ran through the sporting world last week when a group led by Walmart heir Rob Walton won the bidding war for the Denver Broncos NFL team with a $4.65 billion offer . The eye-popping sum made the deal the most expensive sports team purchase in history and turned a spotlight on the man at the center of it all: the typically low-profile Walton. The eldest son of Walmart founder Sam Walton, he inherited his fortune and served as Walmart’s chairman for 23 years. Now worth $57.2 billion, he is the 15th richest person in America and the fifth richest U.S. heir. A handful of Rob Walton’s relatives are among America’s richest people as well. Founded in 1962 by Sam and his brother James “Bud” Walton, Walmart, the country’s largest retailer, is still about half owned by members of the family. Seven have … [Read more...] about They Inherited Billions Upon Billions: Meet America’s Richest Heirs

Here’s How Rupert Murdoch Became Eight Times Richer Than Donald Trump

November 18, 2020 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin It’s been a rocky few weeks for one of the most stable relationships in cable news. As the animus grows between Fox News founder Rupert Murdoch and President Donald Trump, so do the rumors that they will one day be competitors in the market for conservative news. If Trump actually wanted to start a media business, he’d presumably have to make a significant investment, which could be challenging, given his current lack of liquidity and pile of debt. Competing with Murdoch would be even tougher. Sure, Trump previously made some money in television. But the vast majority of his $2.5 billion fortune comes from real estate, the business his father taught him. Murdoch, who started with less than the President, is now worth nearly eight times as much, $19 billion, with a media empire that circles the globe. Murdoch’s story begins with just a single local newspaper in Adelaide, Australia, which he inherited from his … [Read more...] about Here’s How Rupert Murdoch Became Eight Times Richer Than Donald Trump

Living On Bitcoin For A Week: Bitcoiners Are The New Vegans

May 4, 2013 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Day 4. Bitcoin's value hit its low point on Friday On Friday, I skip breakfast again; it’s an unavoidable part of the Bitcoin diet as there are no places that serve food before 10 a.m. accepting my currency. I lose my appetite anyway when I check the value of Bitcoin; it has plummeted to $90 over night. It has been on a steady decline since I started my Bitcoin challenge. Is it me? My editor suggests the value is falling because I’m showing “ what a drag ” it is to use it. But I think it's due instead to a huge Bitcoin lawsuit that became public Thursday night. The virtual money  has sparked a $75 million (real world currency) complaint; Seattle start-up Coinlab is suing Mt. Gox, saying the Japanese Bitcoin exchange has failed to follow through on the partnership they inked, refusing to let Coinlab take over management of Mt. Gox’s American and Canadian accounts as it allegedly agreed to do. Wrote Adrian … [Read more...] about Living On Bitcoin For A Week: Bitcoiners Are The New Vegans

The criminal fraud case of Elizabeth Holmes’ former second-in-command heads to jury

June 24, 2022 by edition.cnn.com

(CNN Business) The criminal fraud trial of Elizabeth Holmes' ex-boyfriend and former second-in-command at Theranos is heading to the jury, roughly three months after it kicked off in the same San Jose, California, courthouse where she was found guilty on four charges of defrauding investors. In closing arguments, which began Tuesday and spanned nearly four days, the prosecution sought to highlight the many ways in which it alleges former Theranos COO and president Ramesh "Sunny" Balwani directly helped defraud investors and patients alongside Holmes over the course of several years. Prosecutors pointed to various emails, text messages and witness testimony reviewed during the trial that highlighted Balwani's integral roles at the company and his intimate knowledge of the startup's failings. The defense, meanwhile, argued the government had cherry-picked information and lacked sufficient evidence to prove its case. It ticked off the many high-profile people who, like Balwani, … [Read more...] about The criminal fraud case of Elizabeth Holmes’ former second-in-command heads to jury

When it comes to advertising, Netflix co-CEO says it wants to be “better than TV”

June 23, 2022 by www.fastcompany.com

When Netflix first launched into streaming back in 2007, the overall goal was to give people an entertainment option that was better than what they were getting on broadcast television. Now, Netflix co-CEO and chief content officer Ted Sarandos says the goal remains the same as the company prepares to launch a new advertising-supported option. advertisement advertisement “We’re a little bit away from talking about details about the launch,” Sarandos told Kara Swisher in an interview on stage at Cannes Lion Festival on Thursday. “But what I will say for sure, is what we do first won’t be representative of our goals. Want I want our product to be is better than TV. So when I think about how ads are currently served on streaming … I think there’s a lot more work to be done there.” The move to integrate advertising comes as the Netflix faces a significant bump in what’s traditionally been a skyrocketing upward trajectory over the past decade. In its most … [Read more...] about When it comes to advertising, Netflix co-CEO says it wants to be “better than TV”

Netflix Lays Off 300 More Employees Amid Subscriber Losses

June 23, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline Netflix laid off 300 employees in a second round of cuts Thursday and confirmed plans to offer a cheaper ad-supported subscription tier, amid financial troubles after the streaming site lost hundreds of thousands of subscribers in the first quarter of this year. Key Facts A spokesperson for Netflix told Forbes the company laid off the employees so its costs would better accommodate a “slower revenue growth,” adding Netflix is “working hard to support” the employees through this “difficult transition.” The cuts—which Variety first reported were across multiple departments—come after Netflix laid off 150 employees from its 11,000-person staff in May while also announcing further rounds of layoffs in the future. Earlier Thursday, Netflix’s co-CEO Ted Sarandos confirmed the company—once strongly averse to advertisements—will begin to offer a cheaper, ad-supported subscription tier to attract more … [Read more...] about Netflix Lays Off 300 More Employees Amid Subscriber Losses

Here Are The Billionaires With The Largest Twitter Following

June 25, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Elon Musk has gained 17 million Twitter followers since April, when he first announced plans to buy the social media company. But there is one billionaire who still has even more followers than he does. Oh, the power of an enormous Twitter following paired with an enormous fortune. Elon Musk—the world’s richest person—has 99.5 million Twitter followers who are exposed regularly to his rants and musings. He uses Twitter as a publicity tool (journalists regularly rush to cover whatever he says) and as a bully pulpit, complaining about regulators (including the Securities and Exchange Commission ), people he doesn’t like (that “pedo guy,” a term Musk used in 2019 to describe Vernon Unsworth, a British cave diver who helped rescue a trapped junior football team in Thailand.
