Here’s How Rupert Murdoch Became Eight Times Richer Than Donald Trump
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin It’s been a rocky few weeks for one of the most stable relationships in cable news. As the animus grows between Fox News founder Rupert Murdoch and President Donald Trump, so do the rumors that they will one day be competitors in the market for conservative news. If Trump actually wanted to start a media business, he’d presumably have to make a significant investment, which could be challenging, given his current lack of liquidity and pile of debt. Competing with Murdoch would be even tougher. Sure, Trump previously made some money in television. But the vast majority of his $2.5 billion fortune comes from real estate, the business his father taught him. Murdoch, who started with less than the President, is now worth nearly eight times as much, $19 billion, with a media empire that circles the globe. Murdoch’s story begins with just a single local newspaper in Adelaide, Australia, which he inherited from his … [Read more...] about Here’s How Rupert Murdoch Became Eight Times Richer Than Donald Trump
Living On Bitcoin For A Week: Bitcoiners Are The New Vegans
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Day 4. Bitcoin's value hit its low point on Friday On Friday, I skip breakfast again; it’s an unavoidable part of the Bitcoin diet as there are no places that serve food before 10 a.m. accepting my currency. I lose my appetite anyway when I check the value of Bitcoin; it has plummeted to $90 over night. It has been on a steady decline since I started my Bitcoin challenge. Is it me? My editor suggests the value is falling because I’m showing “ what a drag ” it is to use it. But I think it's due instead to a huge Bitcoin lawsuit that became public Thursday night. The virtual money has sparked a $75 million (real world currency) complaint; Seattle start-up Coinlab is suing Mt. Gox, saying the Japanese Bitcoin exchange has failed to follow through on the partnership they inked, refusing to let Coinlab take over management of Mt. Gox’s American and Canadian accounts as it allegedly agreed to do. Wrote Adrian … [Read more...] about Living On Bitcoin For A Week: Bitcoiners Are The New Vegans
The criminal fraud case of Elizabeth Holmes’ former second-in-command heads to jury
(CNN Business) The criminal fraud trial of Elizabeth Holmes' ex-boyfriend and former second-in-command at Theranos is heading to the jury, roughly three months after it kicked off in the same San Jose, California, courthouse where she was found guilty on four charges of defrauding investors. In closing arguments, which began Tuesday and spanned nearly four days, the prosecution sought to highlight the many ways in which it alleges former Theranos COO and president Ramesh "Sunny" Balwani directly helped defraud investors and patients alongside Holmes over the course of several years. Prosecutors pointed to various emails, text messages and witness testimony reviewed during the trial that highlighted Balwani's integral roles at the company and his intimate knowledge of the startup's failings. The defense, meanwhile, argued the government had cherry-picked information and lacked sufficient evidence to prove its case. It ticked off the many high-profile people who, like Balwani, … [Read more...] about The criminal fraud case of Elizabeth Holmes’ former second-in-command heads to jury
