Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Are you looking for Mac software to transcribe audio files into written text files? There are plenty of paid tools, like Otter.ai and Trint, that can cost real money when you start using them too much. But MacWhisper is the free solution the internet has been waiting for. Or, at least, the one I’ve been waiting for. OpenAI released an incredibly powerful free program back in September 2022 that allowed people with some tech savvy to convert their audio and video files into incredibly accurate transcripts. The problem was that it wasn’t very accessible to the average user, since you needed to be familiar with using commands in the Terminal app. But with MacWhisper, which was first spotted by 9to5Mac , someone has finally developed a GUI, or graphical user interface, that builds on top of OpenAI’s Whisper and leaves all the confusing tech stuff under the hood, letting you just drag and drop your audio file and get a … [Read more...] about MacWhisper Is The Free Transcription Software I’ve Been Waiting For

10 Ways Remote Workers Can Find Work-Life Balance In 2023
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin A recent article in The Atlantic claims that America’s fever of workaholism is finally breaking for the rich, who are buying more free time. Unfortunately, that’s not the case for the average American worker. Now that remote and hybrid work are becoming the new normal, employees face new challenges along with the advantages. Chronic work stress no longer exists solely in the office. In one study , 48% of remote workers said they were struggling to disconnect from work, burning the midnight oil. This trend has led to nearly half of the workforce feeling burned out—conditions detrimental to productivity and job satisfaction. If you work at home, you’re in your personal space, not your usual professional environment, with your personal and professional worlds under one roof. The upside is you have greater flexibility, but the downside is your personal life can bleed into your workday. Teachers Need The Why, The What, And The How For Change To Happen
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin There’s a dizzying amount of activity going on in some states and school districts, spurred by the push to bring classroom practice in line with the “science of reading.” But not all of that activity translates into better reading instruction. Some teachers are being required to take rigorous courses that ask them to re-examine and abandon deeply held beliefs about how children learn to read. Even if they become convinced that change is needed—that is, they have the why— they may not be equipped to put their new understanding into practice. Other teachers are simply being asked to follow a radically different kind of literacy curriculum. They have the what— the instructional materials. But they may not understand why change is necessary. That could lead them to depart from the new curriculum or implement it in a way that doesn’t work. Even if teachers have both the why and the what , a radical shift in … [Read more...] about Teachers Need The Why, The What, And The How For Change To Happen

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin With the heat of ChatGPT, the fastest growing app in the history of the web, no wonder Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google feels the need to enter with a challenge. Google plans to release its most powerful and latest language model, LaMDA, as a companion to its search engine in weeks or in months. It will be interesting to see the trajectory comparatives between the two emerging Chat Titans. Although Google’s forth quarter earnings call was done this week, Pichai said, "AI is the most profound technology we are working on today." This is a pre-cursor announcement which will come shortly due to the momentum of OpenView’s GPT3. Given the speed Google works on releases, I would not be surprized if we even see a release to the developer community next week. A Google streaming event will take place next week on Wednesday, Feb. 8. The description says Google is using AI to "reimagine how people search for, explore and … [Read more...] about Meet The Titans: Google And OpenView (Microsoft) Faceoff On Chat Technology Innovation
Buy Now, Pay Later Firms Entering the Health Care Space
Buy now, pay later (BNPL) services have become increasingly popular as a payment method for online shopping and even travel, and major players are creeping into the world of health care. But while breaking up medical bills can provide some short-term relief, critics worry about the lack of protections in the BNPL industry and the threat of overextending patients' budgets. Key Takeaways BNPL services can break up payments into installments over the course of six weeks or longer. The Chinese Spy Balloon Is Down. Now The Fallout Begins.
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin When a Chinese spy balloon was shot down off the coast of the Carolinas this afternoon, fighter jets deflated a diplomatic crisis. The balloon entered the continental United States on the eve of Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s now-canceled visit to China. Despite China’s insistence that it was a civilian meteorological balloon, and expression of “regret,” the U.S. Departments of Defense and State quickly confirmed that it was a surveillance balloon and a violation of international law. China is undermining the rule-based international order—and doesn’t want to admit it. To reassure an anxious public and maintain the diplomatic high ground, the United States must emphasize how China is undermining the international legal order the United States seeks to protect. Nations have used balloons for intelligence and surveillance purposes since the 18 th century. They were a popular method for intelligence collection during … [Read more...] about The Chinese Spy Balloon Is Down. Now The Fallout Begins.

Kiszla: Why Sean Payton can lead Broncos to 11-6 record in his first season as coach
On his best remaining days as a pro quarterback, Russell Wilson will never be as good as Patrick Mahomes, the best on the planet at his craft. But after losing 15 consecutive games to Kansas City, the Broncos now have a fighting chance against the Chiefs because coach Sean Payton can out-scheme and outsmart Andy Reid on any given NFL Sunday. This is my list of the top five NFL quarterbacks, and I’m sticking to it: No. 1: Mahomes No. 2: Joe Burrow, Cincinnati No. 3: Josh Allen, Buffalo No. 4: Lamar Jackson, Baltimore No 5: Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia The old school is dead. Tom Brady has finally called it quits, and if he’s smart, Aaron Rodgers will do the same. The young lions are roaring now. Among the five quarterbacks at the top of the heap, with Justin Herbert and Trevor Lawrence looming at the fringes, there is nobody older than Mahomes, who celebrated his 27th birthday in September. Entering a season in which Wilson will turn 35 years old, I firmly believe … [Read more...] about Kiszla: Why Sean Payton can lead Broncos to 11-6 record in his first season as coach
