Republican New York Rep. Nicole Malliotakis sparred with CNN anchor Poppy Harlow on Friday over removing Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar from the House Foreign Affairs Committee. The House of Representatives voted to remove Omar from the committee Thursday at the behest of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who also removed Democratic California Reps. Eric Swalwell and Adam Schiff from the House Intelligence Committee. Omar faced scrutiny in 2019 for suggesting that American Jews advocate for “allegiance to a foreign country” and that Israel purchased American support. Malliotakis, who also served on the Foreign Affair committee, said Omar held “very dangerous views” surrounding Israel, for blaming the U.S. for the catastrophe in Venezuela and for allegedly having “diminished” 9/11 and thus should not serve on that committee. “Congresswoman, to the first point you made in your objections of her, she did respond saying that ‘I was in no way equating terrorist organizations … [Read more...] about Rep. Under development by the Federal Reserve, FedNow is a U.S. instant payment service designed to provide a fast, safe and efficient way for individuals and businesses to conduct real-time financial transactions. Inspired by the Brazilian PIX, in my previous article, Five Lessons From Brazil For Implementing FedNow , I mentioned some preparations that technology companies may have. I will now provide more detailed information on key resources, stakeholders and technical information about the service. Unlike other instant payment methods, such as PayPal, FedNow is being developed and operated by the Federal Reserve rather than a private company. This means that it will be supervised directly by the institution and will be subject to the same regulations and supervision as other payment systems that are operated by it. How Much Patience Does Luka Dončić Have Left For The Mavericks?
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The Dallas Mavericks have yet to sign forward/center Christian Wood to a contract extension, which is a bit eyebrow raising considering his play over the course of the season, as well as his contractual status. Wood will be an unrestricted free agent by the conclusion of the season, allowing him to sign anywhere without any level of compensation coming back to Dallas. This would be an eerily similar situation as the one Dallas found themselves in last offseason where Jalen Brunson left the team to sign with the New York Knicks. The Brunson situation was entirely avoidable, had Dallas signed him to a three-year contract in 2018 as opposed to four years. By signing him four, per CBA regulations, Brunson qualified for unrestricted free agency status given that he was a second-round selection. Had his contract expired after three seasons, he would have been a restricted free agent, and thus Dallas would have had more control … [Read more...] about How Much Patience Does Luka Dončić Have Left For The Mavericks?

Well, it could help to see what’s really happening with the health of people in your Congressional District. House Votes To Remove Ilhan Omar From House Foreign Affairs Committee
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline The House voted Thursday to eject Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) from the Foreign Affairs Committee over controversial tweets about Israel, fulfilling House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.)’s promise to oust her and two other Democrats from their committees after the previously Democratic-controlled House removed two Republicans from committees in 2021. Key Facts The House voted 218-211 on party lines on a resolution to eject Omar, with one member, Rep. David Joyce (R-Ohio), voting present. The resolution cited Omar’s 2019 tweet suggesting the U.S.’s relationship with Israel is “all about the Benjamins,” a comment many lawmakers from both parties criticized as an antisemitic trope, but Democrats view the move as revenge for the Democratic-controlled House’s decision in 2021 to remove Republican Reps. Paul Gosar (Ariz.) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (Ga.) from their committees over a string of incendiary … [Read more...] about House Votes To Remove Ilhan Omar From House Foreign Affairs Committee
How Ranching And Solar Co-Exist In Texas
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin One of the things I enjoy doing in my writing about energy is dispelling popular myths that exist in our society. Due to my background in oil and gas, myths related to that industry have consumed most of my time over the years, given that there is no shortage of mythological thinking about that business. Today’s story, though, is focused on solar energy, and a popular myth that the building of a solar array on a section of land basically condemns that land from any other productive use. Thanks to some cooperative hosts with solar company Lightsource BP , I was recently able to see first-hand that this is not necessarily the case. Lightsource BP is a joint venture formed in 2010 that is 50% owned by London-based BP. Since the venture was formed 13 years ago, it has successfully installed 8.8 GW of solar generating capacity in dozens of countries around the world. As luck would have it, the company operates several solar … [Read more...] about How Ranching And Solar Co-Exist In Texas
The Best High Chairs Tested To Ensure Proper Seating For Babies And Tots
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The best high chairs boast bells and whistles that our grandparents never dreamed of, and yet, the best ones continue to deliver in a few key areas: durability, cleanability and the best positioning for children. After testing 10 high chairs over several weeks and researching many other bestsellers, I found the Graco Blossom 6-in-1 to be the best high chair overall considering how easy it was to clean, adjust, buckle and use. Not only does it support the baby in a proper eating position, but the tray is removable with an easy one-handed motion. Another favorite was the Peg Perego Siesta as the best splurge high chair. If you’re willing to spend another hundred dollars (or $200, depending on sales and colors), you’ll gain a few more features in the Peg Perego, including the ability to fold it for storage and a slightly elevated look. (Read my in-depth reviews of the Graco Blossom and the Peg Perego Siesta .) Then there … [Read more...] about The Best High Chairs Tested To Ensure Proper Seating For Babies And Tots
Dying For The Perfect Photo Or Video – Is Social Media Claiming Lives?
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Twenty-seven-year-old Edgar Garay was killed after he fell from a cliff in Puerto Rico last Sunday while attempting to film a social media video for TikTok. He is sadly among the latest person to be killed while trying to stage a perfect photo or video. A 2018 study conducted by Indian researchers from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences found that 259 people had died between 2011 and 2017 while trying to take "extreme selfies" with their phones. These have included falls from the tops of mountains, cliff sides, and even tall buildings; while others have been swept away by water currents, and more than a few were killed by wild animals. In one case, a pair of Russian soldiers had posed with a live grenade that suddenly went off, while a teenage Romanian girl tried to take an "ultimate selfie" from the top of a moving train only to come in contact with a live wire. It is also a global phenomenon – with … [Read more...] about Dying For The Perfect Photo Or Video – Is Social Media Claiming Lives?
Why You Should Visit Bangkok’s Revived Creative District
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Tourists cruise Bangkok ’s Chao Phraya River to see the gilded wats (Buddhist temples), the opulent Grand Palace and other sights along the historic waterway. But a revitalized destination has emerged along Bangkok’s banks, the Creative District, a lively area full of local cafés, galleries, restaurants and more. Established in 2015, the Creative District flows along the river and spills into the more residential Khlong San neighborhood on the western bank and the buzzing Bang Rak in the east. In 2016, the district held the BUKRUK Urban Arts Festival with international art exhibitions that left their mark throughout the area. Some of the world’s best street artists attended and painted large, bold and vibrant murals on local buildings. The most-photographed work comes from the Portuguese artist Vhils, who employed a unique carving technique to chisel realistic faces on a wall surrounding the Embassy of Portugal. … [Read more...] about Why You Should Visit Bangkok’s Revived Creative District
