Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin So goes California, and so typically goes the country. And the North American automotive industry along with it. That's possibly the case with California and its battle over data. There is no question the automotive manufacturers want data from hundreds of sensors for a multitude of reasons ranging from warranty reduction, repair prognostics, machine learning of safety-related systems and, yes, advertising revenue. As the former CEO of Ford, Mark Fields, announced to the world in 2016 , "As our vehicles become part of the Internet of things and as consumers give permission to us to collect that data, we'll also become an information company. Our differentiator will be how we use that data to satisfy our customers in ways that they never thought possible in their lives." In fact, it's projected by 2023 that worldwide sales of connected vehicles will surpass 76 million units (70% globally, 90% in the United States) with … [Read more...] about Privacy Battle Over Connected Cars Takes An Interesting Turn In California

California Law Requiring Women On Corporate Boards Ruled Unconstitutional
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline A Los Angeles judge ruled unconstitutional a state law mandating public companies save a board seat for women, unraveling one of the linchpins of the state's 2018 attempt at increasing gender equity. Key Facts Superior Court Judge Maureen Duffy-Lewis ruled that the law violated the right to equal treatment Friday. Duffy-Lewis agreed with the arguments made by conservative legal group Judicial Watch, which sued the state over the law in 2019 arguing it violated the right to equal treatment and discriminated based on sex. The state argued the law didn’t establish a quota because there was no requirement for men to be removed to make room for women. The state also denied the law was unconstitutional because it was reversing a culture of discrimination that favored men and put in place after failed attempts to rectify the culture. The state attorney general’s and governor’s office did … [Read more...] about California Law Requiring Women On Corporate Boards Ruled Unconstitutional
Student Loan Forgiveness Makes Blue-Collar Workers Pay For ‘Worthless Gender Study Degrees,’ According To Donald Trump, Jr.
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Donald Trump, Jr. has weighed in on student loan forgiveness — and here’s what he said. Here’s what you need to know. Student Loans Trump sharply criticized President Joe Biden’s potential plan to cancel student loans for millions of Americans. “Biden essentially wants blue-collar workers like truck drivers — who didn't have the luxury of going to college to get drunk for four years — to bail out a bunch of upper-middle-class kids who chose to spend tens of thousands of dollars that they didn't have on worthless gender study degrees,” Trump told The Washington Post. Trump is referring to one major criticism of wide-scale student loan cancellation . As many Republicans have argued, Americans who didn’t go to college or who couldn’t afford to go to college would pay student loan debt for the select few who could. California Judge Throws Out Corporate Diversity Mandate
A California judge struck down a 2020 law Friday requiring public companies to meet racial or sexual minority quotas for their board of directors. Conservative legal advocacy group Judicial Watch sued California on behalf of three taxpayers in October 2020 to block the enforcement of Assembly Bill 979, which required publicly-held corporations to give positions on its board of directors to members of “underrepresented communities,” including those who identify as a racial minority or gay, lesbian or transgender. The law levies penalties against companies who fail to comply with the requirements. Judicial Watch alleged that taxpayer funding of the bill was illegal under the state constitution as the bill discriminates on the basis of race or sexual preference, and that enforcement of the law through compiling and reporting demographic data would have created an ongoing cost for taxpayers in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Elon Musk proves once again that the rules don’t apply to him
New York (CNN Business) How do you regulate a man worth more than $200 billion who thinks he knows better than everyone else? The simple answer is: You don't. Elon Musk has once again proven he'll do things his own way, announcing Friday that his $44 billion deal to buy Twitter is on hold . He shared this news in a tweet rather than in a formal filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The drama over the deal has continued to play out in a series of tweets between Musk and the company. Because the SEC ruled back in 2013 that using Twitter and other social media platforms are an acceptable way for public companies to disclose material information, this might be one of the legal ways he's flouted convention. But many other moves by Musk over the years have broken actual rules, not just skirted norms, yet none of it has slowed him down or changed his behavior. The financial penalties that regulators or business partners might put … [Read more...] about Elon Musk proves once again that the rules don’t apply to him
Why The Eternal Optimism Of Paul McCartney Never Goes Out Of Style
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin It was 46 years ago Paul McCartney answered his critics and John Lennon, who claimed he often wrote songs that were too corny and sentimental, with the No 1 smash, "Silly Love Songs." In the song's opening stanza, McCartney sings, “You’d think that people would have had enough of silly love songs/I look around me and I see it isn’t so/Some people want to fill the world with silly love songs/And what’s wrong with that?/I’d like to know/’Cause here I go again.” Though McCartney wrote the song somewhat tongue in cheek, like so many geniuses, he turned out to be stunningly prophetic. Because watching McCartney Friday night at L.A.'s Sofi Stadium it was abundantly clear how much the world still needs his silly love songs. The eternal optimism of McCartney, at least publicly, is the ninth wonder of the world. Most perceptive people look at the world, and even before the horrific racially motivated shootings that happened … [Read more...] about Why The Eternal Optimism Of Paul McCartney Never Goes Out Of Style
