In my line of business, which involves the sale of drug testing kits, I run into many a sad story about how addiction has ruined lives and caused an immense amount of grief among people who get hooked on any number of substances, especially opioids . And while you may think I am talking about people who were born into poverty and were down on their luck and looking for an escape (and I've heard those stories, too), I'm not. I'm talking about people who have lived privileged lives, earned college degrees, started successful practices and followed their entrepreneurial dream. David J. Linden, professor of neuroscience at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, says there is some evidence that the traits that make a good entrepreneur also make one susceptible to addiction. It can also be a rather lonely road entrepreneurs walk as they get their businesses off the ground and that, coupled with a constant fear of failure hanging over their heads, may also lead to … [Read more...] about Some Traits That Make You a Good Entrepreneur Also Make You Susceptible to Addiction. Ola Electric gets takedown notice from customer after making telemetry data public
An Ola electric scooter. A tussle between Ola Electric and a customer who had an accident while riding the company’s electric scooter has escalated into allegations of breach of privacy and integrity of data. The customer has sent a takedown notice to Ola Electric for allegedly violating privacy laws by publishing the scooter’s telemetry data on social media. The notice is in addition to claims by the customer about the vehicle’s allegedly faulty brakes and has drawn more flak for Ola, which is grappling with the issue of a vehicle catching fire and has recalled over 1,400 electric scooters to conduct 'diagnostic and health check'. The latest controversy dates back to March 26, when lawyer Reetam Singh was riding his father’s brand new Ola S1 Pro late at night on the Khanapara Highway in Guwahati, Assam. He claimed that he was riding at about 60 kmph when he spotted a speed-breaker. He alleged that when he applied the brakes, the scooter’s speed increased and he lost … [Read more...] about Ola Electric gets takedown notice from customer after making telemetry data public

This New E-Scooter Can Get You Around Town On The Cheap
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Electric scooters may well provide a better car alternative for more people than electric bicycles — for a few reasons. First, they aren’t nearly as expensive. Secondly, many are foldable and can be easily stored. Third, they’re generally fairly lightweight – allowing people to carry them into their office, appointment or home for storage when not in use. Fourth, they’re more agile to use. In many cases, you can ride them right up to the front door of wherever you’re going and won’t need to lock them up. Fifth, the wheels will never go flat. And sixth, e-scooters may be safer, as you can probably use them on the sidewalk in your area – away from the bike and car lanes. Not sure about everyone else, but I often feel like a sitting – or is it rolling? - duck, when I’m riding my e-bike in the bike lane of a busy street. Being physically separated from the cars is a huge safety advantage, in my opinion. While I’m definitely not … [Read more...] about This New E-Scooter Can Get You Around Town On The Cheap
Wondering How to Motivate Your Workforce? Take a Page from Psychological Theory
Do you trust your employees ? Psychology suggests you should. When employees are trusted, empowered and equipped to make certain decisions about how, when and where they work-- a concept known as job autonomy -- it results in positive outcomes for both the worker and employer. As technology pushes the limits of what's possible, business leaders can either stick to the status quo or take action to enable their employees to be more autonomous. Still not convinced? Let's take a deeper dive. What is autonomy and why does it matter? According to the psychological theory of self-determination , autonomy plays a major role in helping people feel motivated and fulfilled. Self-determination theory defines autonomy as feeling in control of one's decisions and behaviors. The reason autonomy is so impactful on motivation is that when people feel their choices have an effect on the output, they feel more responsible for their role and more invested in the ultimate outcome. … [Read more...] about Wondering How to Motivate Your Workforce? Representative image (Source: Reuters) A new SARS CoV 2 mutant, BA. 2.12.1, related to the Omicron subvariant BA.2 but with other distinct changes, may be driving the current surge in COVID-19 cases in Delhi and surrounding districts, top sources in INSACOG, India’s coronavirus genomic surveillance project, told Moneycontrol. When contacted for an official version, Dr Sujeet Kumar Singh, director, National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), the agency under Union health ministry which is leading the INSACOG project, confirmed the detection of the variant in Delhi but did not elaborate more on this. Sources, however, said that the BA.2.12.1 variant has been detected in several samples from the national capital that underwent whole genome sequencing over the last few days. Fitch Ratings cuts China’s 2022 growth forecast amid uptick in COVID-19 cases
Representative image China’s GDP growth forecast for 2022 has been cut by Fitch Ratings from 4.8% to 4.3% in the backdrop of rising coronavirus cases in the country, which led to the adoption of policies that restricted mobility in the important commercial hub of Shanghai aside from broader restrictions across the nation. The ratings agency has; however, revised its 2023 growth forecast for China from 5.1 percent to 5.2 percent based on the assumption that Beijing would gradually phase out its ‘dynamic zero-Covid’ policy over the next year. They explained that their forecast is subject to downside risk if containment measures fail to bring new outbreaks under control quickly or if the easing of current restrictions is delayed, and based on the assumption that Beijing would adhere to the ‘dynamic zero’ strictly until 2023. "Spillover to economic activity from Covid-19 pandemic-related disruption became apparent in March, with retail sales falling by 3.5%, the first YoY … [Read more...] about Fitch Ratings cuts China’s 2022 growth forecast amid uptick in COVID-19 cases
It Only Took About 180 Minutes For Democrats To Try To Capitalize On The Buffalo Shooting
Shortly over three hours after police were alerted to a mass shooting in Buffalo, New York, on Saturday, Democratic politicians took to Twitter to call for gun control legislation. “ Two mass shootings in 24 hours, in Milwaukee and Buffalo — the latter killing ten people. I’m heartbroken. And I’m angry. Angry that the GOP continues to block even the most basic gun safety measures. We can stop this. We can save lives. Republicans just refuse to. Cowards. ” said Democratic Representative Adam Schiff of California in a Twitter post. Shanghai targets June 1 return to normal as Covid lockdowns cool economy
- A + A SHANGHAI/BEIJING (May 16): Shanghai set out plans on Monday for the return of more normal life from June 1 and the end of a painful Covid-19 lockdown that has lasted more than six weeks and contributed to a sharp slowdown in China's economic activity. In the clearest timetable yet, Deputy Mayor Zong Ming said Shanghai's reopening would be carried out in stages, with movement curbs largely to remain in place until May 21 to prevent a rebound in infections, before a gradual easing. "From June 1, to mid- and late June, as long as risks of a rebound in infections are controlled, we will fully implement epidemic prevention and control, normalize management, and fully restore normal production and life in the city," she said. The full lockdown of Shanghai and Covid curbs on hundreds of millions of consumers and workers in dozens of other cities have hurt retail sales, industrial production and employment, adding to fears the economy could shrink in the second … [Read more...] about Shanghai targets June 1 return to normal as Covid lockdowns cool economy
EXPLAINED: What’s behind North Korea’s COVID-19 admission?
Representative image Before acknowledging its first domestic COVID-19 cases, North Korea spent 2 1/2 years rejecting outside offers of vaccines and steadfastly claiming that its superior socialist system was protecting its 26 million people from a malicious virus that had killed millions around the world. Its surprise admission this week has left many outsiders wondering just how bad things really are, and there's rising worry that it could cause a major humanitarian crisis in a country with one of the world's worst public medical infrastructures. Because the North has been shut up tight since early 2020, with no reporters, aid workers or diplomats regularly going in, reading the situation is something of a guessing game, and the North has been vague with its state media descriptions of widespread fevers. But there are some worrying facts: no reported vaccines, very limited testing capability, a terrible medical system and widespread poverty. Without immediate outside aid … [Read more...] about EXPLAINED: What’s behind North Korea’s COVID-19 admission?
