How a Disney Map Helped My Company Survive the Death of the Direct-to-Consumer Model
Every week, the same headline repeats: DTC upstart heads to retail. You can now find Magic Spoon at Target, Glossier at Sephora, and Away at Amazon, and the list goes on. This month, Yumi, the company I co-founded, also threw our proverbial hat into the brick-and-mortar ring, with a full nationwide launch at Target and nearly 2,000 stores. So, yes, the "era of DTC" as we know it is dead . But I would argue that the DTC era was an important pit stop to the inevitable omnichannel future. In the initial version of our company pitch deck, we created a future road map inspired by Walt Disney's famous Synergy Map in 1957, when he envisioned Disney's 60-year road map in a napkin sketch. He doesn't explicitly name Disney+, its big gambit in connected TV, or the purchase of Pixar, but all the breadcrumbs are there for the sprawling online and offline empire we know today. Our Disney map slide showed Yumi's later-stage selling channels would include real-life festivals for … [Read more...] about How a Disney Map Helped My Company Survive the Death of the Direct-to-Consumer Model
TikTok Blocks Influencers From Creating Paid Political Content Ahead Of Midterms—Here’s How Social Media Platforms Are Preparing
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline TikTok on Wednesday unveiled a strategy for fighting misinformation ahead of the midterm elections, including a ban on paid political content from influencers, after Facebook and Twitter also outlined a series of steps to prepare for the November election after facing a barrage of criticisms for fueling the spread of false information during previous elections. Key Facts TikTok will launch an Elections Center this week to “connect people” with “authoritative information” about voting in more than 45 languages, which the company will link to through labels, TikTok’s Head of Safety Eric Han wrote in a blog post . TikTok is reinforcing its 2019 ban on paid political advertising to include paid content from influencers as well, after challenges arose during the 2020 election educating influences on that rule, Han said. The plans come a day after Facebook’s parent company Meta briefly shared some … [Read more...] about TikTok Blocks Influencers From Creating Paid Political Content Ahead Of Midterms—Here’s How Social Media Platforms Are Preparing
How Alison Brie Struck Perfect Balance Of Heart And Comedy In ‘Spin Me Round’
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Alison Brie added another impressive notch to her writing belt with the film Spin Me Round , screening at the Cinequest Film Festival Wednesday evening (September 17) at 7:15 p.m. PT at the Hammer Theatre Centre in San Jose, California. Spin Me Round will be in theaters, On Demand, and streaming on AMC+ August 19th. The movie marks the third feature film writing credit for Brie, who plays “Amber” in addition to co-writing the movie about a woman who wins an all-expenses-paid trip to her company's facility outside of Florence and the chance to meet the restaurant chain's rich, charismatic owner. As Alison has impressed with her acting in major projects like Community , Glow , and Mad Men over the years, as well as 70-plus other works, I found myself zeroing in on the story, character development, and jokes in Spin Me Round — which all flowed beautifully like an Italian red — that she helped create. COVID-19 shots still work but researchers hunt new improvements
Representative image: Reuters COVID-19 vaccinations are at a critical juncture as companies test whether new approaches like combination shots or nasal drops can keep up with a mutating coronavirus even though it's not clear if changes are needed. Already there's public confusion about who should get a second booster now and who can wait. There's also debate about whether pretty much everyone might need an extra dose in the fall. I'm very concerned about booster fatigue causing a loss of confidence in vaccines that still offer very strong protection against COVID-19s worst outcomes, said Dr. Beth Bell of the University of Washington, an adviser to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Despite success in preventing serious illness and death, there's growing pressure to develop vaccines better at fending off milder infections, too as well as options to counter scary variants. We go through a fire drill it seems like every quarter, every three months or so … [Read more...] about COVID-19 shots still work but researchers hunt new improvements
WHITAKER: The American People Deserve To Know The Whole Story On The FBI’s Mar-A-Lago Raid
The attorney general’s directive to the FBI to raid former President Donald J. Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence last week was an unprecedented and aggressive action that has understandably raised concerns over the ongoing appearance of a politicized justice system. Questions surrounding the decision-making process undertaken by the leadership of the FBI and Department of Justice (DOJ) to execute a search warrant against a former president — and political adversary of the current party in power — make the DOJ’s decision not to release the underlying affidavit supporting the raid even more suspect. The American people deserve answers. (RELATED: CLEVELAND: America Has A Two-Tiered Justice System And The FBI Just Proved It) The expectation is that the rule of law will be enforced evenly and consistently, regardless of political status or partisan affiliation. In recent years, the DOJ has eroded that bedrock principle, pursuing investigations that appeared to target political and … [Read more...] about WHITAKER: The American People Deserve To Know The Whole Story On The FBI’s Mar-A-Lago Raid
Republican Governor Sues Biden Admin For Refusing To Clean Up Native Americans’ Contaminated Lands
Republican Gov. Mike Dunleavy of Alaska is suing the Biden administration to address the federal government’s transfer of contaminated lands to Alaska Natives. “When it comes down to helping these folks, it’s a poor record at best and dismal at its worse,” Dunleavy told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “Some sites are within two miles of a village and we know they’re contaminating our drinking water and food sources,” Hallie Bisset, executive director of the Alaska Native Village Corporation Association, told the DCNF. Republican Gov. Mike Dunleavy of Alaska filed a complaint in Alaska’s United States District Court to compel the Department of the Interior (DOI) to take responsibility for hundreds of contaminated areas that the federal government transferred to Alaska Natives. Dunleavy and the state of Alaska filed the lawsuit in mid-July as a last resort after the DOI allegedly ignored calls to identify and clean up 650 former federal military installations, oil … [Read more...] about Republican Governor Sues Biden Admin For Refusing To Clean Up Native Americans’ Contaminated Lands
REPORT: FBI Was After Documents Trump Believed Would ‘Exonerate’ Him From Russia Conspiracy
The FBI was reportedly seeking documents President Donald Trump believed would exonerate him from Russian collusion claims and other election-related charges when agents raided his Mar-a-Lago residence, anonymous intelligence officials told Newsweek. The FBI collected all of the documents that were government property and used concerns about classified documents to justify the raid , but agents were looking for Trump’s personal stash containing documents related to Russian collusion accusations against him, fearing that he would “weaponize” them, Newsweek reported . One former Trump official said he may have planned to use the documents to help in a presidential run in the coming term. “Trump was particularly interested in matters related to the Russia hoax and the wrong-doings of the deep state,” the official told the outlet, adding that he may have intended to use the documents in a 2024 presidential campaign. “I think he felt, and I agree, that these are facts that the … [Read more...] about REPORT: FBI Was After Documents Trump Believed Would ‘Exonerate’ Him From Russia Conspiracy

Biden DOJ Takes A Big Bite Out Of Big Meat With Eight-Figure Legal Settlement
Three major US poultry producers will pay over $84 million dollars to settle a suit filed by the Department of Justice (DOJ) which alleged the group shared payroll information to collaboratively lower costs, according to a Monday press release by the DOJ. The lawsuit alleged that Cargill Meat Solutions, Sanderson Farms, and Wayne Farms collaborated with one another by sharing information about employee wages and benefits, according to the complaint filed by the DOJ. The data consulting firm Webber, Meng, Sahl and Company (WMS) is alleged to have acted as a go-between, sharing this information amongst the defendants via a series of “surveys” that shared identifiable information, according to the complaint. The lawsuit was both filed and settled on Monday, with no defendant admitting any wrongdoing, according to The Wall Street Journal . “Through a brazen scheme to exchange wage and benefit information, these poultry processors stifled competition and harmed a generation of … [Read more...] about Biden DOJ Takes A Big Bite Out Of Big Meat With Eight-Figure Legal Settlement
